And most importantly some needed fixes are included in the update.  The darkness bug for one and the road to Ojaveda is open!!   :D

Well the road is not open and there is a lot of darkness, which I might add was not a problem before for Linux users..... Now I cant play at all.

Please if you are going to perform an update for windows users will you please also perform and update to the linux client at the same time

Thanks

Draak

At the moment we don\'t have support for updating linux binaries.  I could start on that process but then I will loose a lot of development time because I will have to support it.   I agree that we should update all 3 versions ( Windows/Mac/Linux ) at the same time but in practice that\'s not a reality.

Ok I accept that and being a developer I understand that you have to prioritise what gets done. However it is irritating that a perfectly good client that did not contain any darkness or ojevada road holes can no longer be used, without a replacement.

Is there a way to allow the old client for linux users??

draak, take a look at some of the sticky threads in the Crystal Blue Problems/Bugs forum. Linux users have many more client options than do their development-tools-deprived, windows-using brethren.

Using the binary provided as an official download is merely one option. If this is unsuitable there is a provided install script that downloads and compiles the planeshift source code, meaning you always have the latest and greatest client available to use.

Thanks I realise this I have successfully downloaded the code and attempted to compile, (which was successful in the end!), however I am running an amd64 based machine, with gcc as a 64 bit compiler, (apparently it is not possible to compile on amd64) for some reason I get a errors with loading the wave files, and I don\'t compile those ;).

My original question was is it possible to only force the updating of clients that have been updated, therefore enabling everyone access when a new client is released, until such a point as a 3rd party or dev has the opportunity to update them.

Thanks

You might find the below thread helpful, it has info on what extra compiler options to give gcc such that planeshift happily compiles on the athlon64/opteron cpus.
