Title: Monster fun
Post by: Azrum on August 14, 2002, 08:53:46 pm
It would be really cool if there was a Beast Master class in the game, so when you are adventuring you could tame some of the creatures you encounter(if they\'re not to high level). And then maybe you could open a shop and sell your creatures.

If you were like a Fighter (or some other class) it would be cool if you could be an apprentice of other players (or NPC) so you could Dual-Class (or is it called Multi-Class?)

Cool thing:
If you could walk around the world and find weapon pieces and then when you think you have?some cool pieces, you could put the together in a smithy! Then the weapons would be like personal and that would be cool (and btw, some pieces could have special atributes and enhancements. And maybe even some rare pieces that would be awfully powerful  ;) )

Cool idea, but this isn\'t a class based game. There could be an \"Animal Training\" skill or something. As for \"Multiclassing,\" well, you do that automatically :P I guess maybe apprenticeships could give you free ranks in a skill? Or some skills could require training, and apprenticeships would be one way of getting that training?

The weapon peices idea is pretty cool. I think that\'s actually kinda covered by what some people have been thinking about what effects mining (and specifically ores) could have. Maybe reforging of ancient weapons? (Maybe even some of legendary status?) That\'d be rare, though... and always part of a quest. You don\'t just find half of Excaliber lying under a rock in the forest. :P

hehe... you are right about that. You can\'t find a piece of a powerful item lying under a rock in a forest, but as you said it could be cool to find one after a quest.

And btw does anyone know if weapons will be breakable, like they have a durability rate?

What about the possiblites of Goose Chases? You spend 2 weeks fighting out a quest for the hilt of a sword that has 10+ in Gremlin slaying, just to find out it\'s some cursed weapon with a 10- in accuracy. But that would be a sick joke.

As for the training/taming/domestication of animals, I remember under the listing of current jobs, one is \"Animal Training,\" so I\'m assuming there will be something like Azrum\'s idea.

I also like the idea of collecting weapon pieces to smith together into a weapon.  It would be really neat if you need to collect certain pieces to make a weapon i.e. for a sword you need a hilt piece and two blade pieces.  You could even go wild by making a longer sword with the more blade pieces you have!  I have seen screenshots of some games with characters wielding swords as tall as they were (though these would undoutfully take a lot of experience to handle).

its more possable that the game would be simpler, chances are if you are to find any item it will be from the monster you just killed. I want to name my personal sword i think such weaponary should level up with you as apposed to constanly changing weapons for more damage an speed, i belive types should yeild diffrent attubutes that grow with your charter. I.E. a large sword is damamging, but not as fast as a Riepper - nore is the repeir as dammaging, quite simply i would rather go with look as apposed to constanly rebuying the same weapon just diffrent look, perhaps instead of rebuying you recreate it in the smithing and add persay more water affinty or fire, lighter therefore fast or heaver and more damaging.

AND; i want to create and matain my own NPC friend like a hawke, perhaps you can have one full-time trained pet that is allways loyal, i have found that many other games have you training many animals and so fourth, but there layolty fades even after youve feed them fully, battled with them and continued to retrain them again and agian.......

Everything is going to be part of a quest. Any time anyone has a idea its going to be part of a quest. Lets make quests where you get extra body parts.

:D cool.
Heehee, runaway runaway!!

Will the \"familars\" have better stats than the average animal? A normal badger wouldn\'t e much use in a fight against whatit seems like we\'re gonna fight.

Could the game also have a shapeshifter option like the Druid in Diablo 2?

You could learn the skinning trait maybe, like from Fallout 2. Sell or wear the skins of the animals you kill.

Bytes cost bandwidth!

From what I understand, your familiar gains skills and experience as you do.  So in the beginning, they will probably be normal animals, but soon grow to be much tougher, stronger, etc.
