Post by: Ecolem on March 13, 2005, 03:35:14 am
Internet explorer for some reason just keeps on saying \"you need Active X to view this page\", its starting to drive me nuts!

Im starting to use FireFox and its much better:D

Is there anyway i can get rid of IE all together?

And i wana make sure that it will work when i want to check my email through MSN instead of IE

thx  :P

fdisk usually does the trick for me, its one of the few Microsoft tools that I openly endorse the use of. If you arent willing to take such a drastic step, perhaps tools like LitePC are what you are after?

I for one dont have a problem with IE, never did never had.

I have never noticed an increase of viruses/spyware/adaware/worms, no slowdowns, no cookie bugs, I dont have wierd displays, and I never noticed any bugs. Maybe my IE isn\'t cursed ;)

The reason you haven\'t noticed the problems is that IE never informs you of the crap it just invites into your PC :P i use mozilla.. its hella much better :D

It\'s because the site is coded in IE\'s style, Microsoft didn\'t care if it didn\'t follow W#. \"We\'re the biggest and can do whatever we will and all should adapt\"...

You can\'t remove IE since it\'s the system in anything more modern that 95

Though you cannot remove IE you can make it to where you don\'t redally have acces to it in windows XP go to Start > All Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults Ther is an option in there to remove IE.  (it dosen\'t really remove it it just removes it\'s icons) you still need ie for windows updates.

I just dont update windows and have told my firewall to not let IE connect inbound or out or launch anything.. so its basicaly as if it didnt exist.. if there is a page that mozilla cant open then i just dont see the page :P

Foresteer: We both know Windows has many security flaws in it.  If you don\'t update it, you\'re going to remain vunerable.  Unless, of course, you have a version with which updates have been discontinued, then it\'s too late.  :P

If I recall correctly, the last time IE was updated was in 2002.

To be fair that is probably the last time ie was updated for all platforms.  But microsoft dod release an update for windows xp users that includes a popup blocker and an ActiveX warning screen.   It also has you click an extra two times pefore it lets you open an exicutable from the web...

But IMO that\'s mostly stuff that should have happened a long time ago, and were only done to fix problems.  They have done nothing to really improve the product and they have said the only way you\'ll be able to get an update is to buy Longhorn.

(Did you know the potition to get .png support for ie has been around for almost ten years now?)

1. Get a good anti-virus scanner (not the free ones you download for free, those are crap ;)
2. Get a Registry defrag and cleaner (search on google)
3. Download a spyware/adaware scanners like Spybot, but more reccommened: AD-Aware
4. If possible get a non interfering firewall, but your virus-scanner\'s firewall or SP2 firewall will do
6. Defrag your HD every two weeks
7. Clean your computer of worthless files every week

Do weekly virus/spyware/registry/adware checks and wallah a Virus-fre/bug-free computer
