An anime OD and a lack of scanner, I presume.
1. I would say overstylized, but that\'s a matter of preference. For this style, your proportions are good.
2.Head too short. Otherewise, props & shape are good, use a reference?
3.Your props are shot. Where are the eyebrows?
In summary: You watch too much over-stylized anime. I suggest you append your TV diet with something a dash more serious in drawing methods, like Stand Alone Complex.

like i said animesque, it\'s the way i draw.
and some of us aren\'t that fortunate to have good anime broadcast to us, aswell as not having any sources for downlaoding them.
shouldn\'t have bothered

your pirakika looks cute :) Remines me of the japanese manga.
I especially like the 1st one that you have drawn, it gives me a unique feeling towards it. Well anyways nice of you to share.
Well get a scanner!!! :P Just suggesting that a scanner would be really good to capture those images.
Nice work.

I really like the first one. the other two are good too :) dont listen to them..they\'re perfect as it is!! *hugs pics*...*runs at the sight of demarthl*

cute last one ^-^;;

A good artist takes all critisism- constructive or brutal- not as an attack, but as the most valuable advice they can receive.
Demarthl: The road to improvement is not to say \"I should never have bothered\", but instead to think \"I should bother even more, untill there is little left someone can dislike\".
I used to try to draw anime people, you know. My art looked *very* similar to your pieces here. After a while, I decided I just couldn\'t draw art- it wasn\'t in me.
But you can adapt the style to fit what you can do. Look at your works- see how they could be made to look more realistic, whilst staying just as \"cutesy\" as you want them to be. I see the same mistakes with the stylised eyes in your pictures that I always used to do myself... massive spaces with seemingly no shape, and so far apart they could almost pass for ears.
Take a very long look at a photo of someone. Look, and understand how the shape of the eye is formed. They\'re just round balls with a split in the skin that bends around it. Think of this as you draw your eye; don\'t just copycat a picture of a cute anime girl you found on the \'net, because you\'ll focus on how you think the shape should be, rather than how the shape actually IS. It is easier to keep the \"anime\" style looking authentic and pretty when you actually understand what you\'re drawing, and how the structure of the face impacts the shape of the eyes.
You can do all this, and the simplest trick to making these \"realistic\" eyes look cute is to make them look wide open, and big. Keep the eye-shines small and round, but put 2 or 3 in there close to eachother.
I\'ve focused solely on the face, and not said a word about the rest of the body. I apologise- because, infact, your proportions and details seem very good (I would say the head and boobs are the only unproportionate things on them). Since they\'re pretty much lineart, understandably you can\'t include too much detail such as shadows, muscle structure, bones (elbows, collarbones, anything that sticks out really), etc. However, if you ever do make a more detailed character portrait, keep these things in mind. And for clothes, add some tension creases- for example, some lines starting from just off-center on her bust, moving horizontally outwards, sloping up or down gently, to give the appearance that the clothing is being slightly pulled taught around this area.
For more, I\'m sure there\'s lots of Internet resources out there. These are just things I think of out the top of my head. Hope it helps improve your skill in future artistic endeavors. :)

Meh I am not a fan of anime what so ever but i guess its alright to someone who might enjoy such things, probally not alright to l33t artist critique but you don\'t have to worry about such things from me :P

leaning forwards
and what i meant by shouldnt have bothered i\'ll stick by, clearly my style of drawing doesnt suit here, i\'ll draw and colour as i have done before, just know where to and where not to show it

reminds me of all the mountain of magna books I used to read on weekends. I dont despice anime at all it actually takes skill to make (believe me I suck at it)
-
I think those pics are well done, the most important rule is practice.
I use to be in an anime mode back in the beginning of high school, and now I regret it :( . It took whatever originality I had and made it cliche, then I realized, \"Aw crap, I just ruined my style!\". Anime can be well drawn, but there is a lack of innovation when it comes to character designs, besides a change of hair  .
Right now I\'m re-evaluating my art and trying different directions, hopefully I\'ll find my own distinct \"style\". You should do the same, stray off the path and always try something different ;) !

.....
Just think chibi and draw

started of determined to draw a more realistic iece, but still i end up like this

It\'s a good attempt, not a total failure like you may believe, I also suck at realism. MY only problem with the pic is the eyes, they need to be more round, kinda like the characters on your sig. Notice how the eyes close at points. Maybe not the best example, but if you look in a mirror or photos of people, you\'ll notice how there are points on either side of the outline of the eye. Even on anime there are these two points. Granted some cartoons, american or japanese, don\'t follow this concept but they\'re usually going for something cute or cartoony. Like I said, and Moogie too, just rethink the concpet of the eyes and everything should be just fine ;) .

it seems that being depressed makes me draw better

that was rough but any better style wise?
-
BIG improvement :D ! Now you\'re getting there!
-
damn the lack of laughing smilies!
i\'ll see what i can do another time
damn the lack of shifty lookin smilies!
off to randomism
-
Ok maybe this will help? It is my own drawing of an eye in pencil. Maybe it could act as a refence?
Demarthl don\'t give up on drawing, it takes lots of hard for me to get this far too.
As you can see my female character\'s eye is a bit rounder than the male\'s eye. My male character\'s eye looks a bit more fierce.
Well this is just my way of differentateting their eyes.
-
my quality will greatly improve once i get a scanner, unlike moogie im rather sheite on the tablet :D
-
No fair! I wanna tablet! :(
Ok, even though I\'m not the best of the artist hangin\' \'round PS, I\'ll drop some more useless advice.
Try not to think of noses as pyramid-type shapes. They\'re quite round, I assure you. 3 \'balls\'. Center & two nostrils, which fuse together quite a bit.
Like Moogs said, eyes curve outward and the lids slide over them.
Drawing realism will make you better at drawing anime. Again, of this I can assure you.
You\'re getting better. :)

Heheh, when I saw the thread title, the first thing I thought of was pie. Because... y\'know... \"piirakka\" is \"pie\" in Finnish, and... um. Well, it kind of makes sense from there. Surely.
I rather like the second image from this thread, think it\'s nicely done. Anatomy is always a tough cookie, but one can master it. Yep! In time and with practice. You\'re doing good though, always nice to see people\'s progress.
-
Well 1st start drawing in pencil not pen. Pen is really not that good to draw with when your not that good at drawing.
-
Hi
Looking good Demarthl! I like \'em! The second picture reminds me of Moogies latest picture at \'More faces behind players\'-thread. ;)
To Karyuu: I made the same mistake when I first saw this thread. Being such a well educated ma\'am, you may also be aware that your nick \"Karyuu\" resembles the finnish word \"karjuu\", which means \"roars\". I wonder what events have led to the fact that someone from the opposite side of the world knows finnish? Ah, I\'m forgetting my manners, as it is none of my business. Bye! :)
Back to Demarthl:
I think your tablet drawings look good too. Here\'s what I would add: (I hope it\'s ok to use your drawing as a source)
- Steps -
1.
A) Lightened lower eyelid (usually lower eyelashes don\'t need to be drawn, they\'re so light).
B) Rotated the upper eyelashes to reach more to the sides and less to up.
C) Added a side bump & nostril (women do breathe) to the nose and turned the nose to point more downwards.
D) Added left cheek
2.
A) Lifted eyebrows a little and trimmed them (women tend to pick out unwanted parts of their eyebrows, especially from the middle. Usually the darker the eyebrows, the manlier the look.).
B) Added left forehead.
C) Added gleam to the pupil (an eye is wet). And lifted the right eye few pixels up.
D) Made the lower nose a bit thicker.
3.
A) Added lower face to see how it would fit. (a female chin is usually pretty smooth and not very broad)

Hmm, that\'s how I see it. Just my opinions though. :)

Demarthl, please show us more! I like a bit of anime now and then ^_^. I think that they are really good, and you have quite a lot of artistic talent, but drawing in an anime style will hinder you from drawing realistically. I have far from got the hang of drawing realistically, and I used to draw in an anime sorta style before. A tip someone gave me that really helped was to add more curves. Anime uses a lot of straight, bold lines, whereas if you look at a human face it tends to be a lot... curvier, for want of a better word. Oh yes, Frada also sent me to http://www.portrait-artist.org which led me to draw more like this:
(http://img177.exs.cx/img177/1504/eye1vg.th.jpg) (http://img177.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img177&image=eye1vg.jpg)
than previously:
(http://img177.exs.cx/img177/1514/elvenswordsman4mt.th.jpg) (http://img177.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img177&image=elvenswordsman4mt.jpg)
it really helped with my drawings, specifically eyes. Which, coincidentally, are smaller than people think. (I don\'t think I\'ll ever get those proportions right... :()
Keep up the good work!
