Title: Help!
Post by: Zinroth on March 16, 2005, 02:58:55 am
I can\'t get past the log-in screen, every time I try logging in it says something about the server being unreachable or being down. I used to be able to play it on older versions but now I can\'t. I can connect to the updater and update but I can\'t log-in! What\'s going on??

Do you have Laanx selected as the server? Localhost won\'t work.

It says that it\'s failing.

Which one? Laanx or Localhost? Make sure you *click* on Laanx before pressing connect. And if you use ping in the updater tool, what does it say?

It says both are.

Perhaps the Laanx server was just down at that moment (unlucky) when you tryed to log on?

maybe. I have a firewall, that may be why, but I\'d thought that, if it were port problems I wouldn\'t be able to get to the updates.

Not true. Updater is using TCP connections only (AFAIK) while server is
using UDP connections. So try to disable firewall for a while and try to
connect, if it will work it means you have to add proper rules to your firewall.

In Zone Alarm, often the updaters from games and the actual game are two different programs, Zone alarm sees and allows one...or the other, and does not allow the second one.  I have had updaters not work and had connections not work.

My hubby knows how to add the programs that you can either allow, sort of allow (limited access, but allow non server access) or prevent access altogether.

I had this issue ALL the time with EQ, sometimes patches took ten minute to 3 HOURS to get Zone alarm to be happy with the change. (anytime a program changes...Zone alarm tends to see it as a NEW program, not an update of an older one.)

Yep, zonealarm here too. In this case, I just momentarily close zonealarm, or add the program i want accepted to the list. Obviously, if this doesnt work, I stay with the momentarily shutting it off. Of course, I have like a triple firewall consisting of like 2 other programs and 5 other antivirus\'s. Always protect your computer I say :P
