todavia i was training my enki character when an idea cross my mind , All the time that im spending geting money and progerssion points is usefull?
i ask and advisor and he answered me that when the next release is ready all the characters that are in crystal blue are going to be deleted , this is beacaue of cheaters that uses bugs to theyr own proffits , and then i ask myself , And what happens to the honest players that enjoys planeshift playing it correctly ? all the time that i have spent in the game? , in a few months all our characters , items , trias and whatever we have get in this beautiful game will disapear for ever.
I want this post to be readed by the developers of the game , and think that who is going to be interested in their game if in a year or some months . their characters will be deleted.
Sorry me if the grammar and the ortography isnt completely correct , but im not a native english speaker and im only 14 years old.

For honest people like us, we are getting good experience at playing the game properly. We will know how to succeed without cheating. The cheaters will be lost trying to figure out how to begin after the character purge. We\'ll know what to do and we\'ll be better off in the long run.
I\'m looking forward to the character wipe because I only started recently, and everyone seems so much stronger than me. But I got where I am through hard work. And I know I can do it again.

Don\'t forget that this is not a finished game. This is an alpha test. You are not playing a game. You are testing a game. During test phase we occasionally have to do big changes and stuff. We do try to minimize this however. So we will try to make sure that we need only one big wipe. However we cannot avoid it. There were some very extreme bugs in the past with people getting huge amounts of money or PP\'s and we have no way of knowing if the money or PP\'s that everyone have now are there normally or because of bugs. We have now solved those bugs so it is almost time to do the wipe (almost).
Greetings,

Ditto, it\'s so hard to RP a powerful mage when I can\'t back myself up with real skill. When the db wipe comes I can play with heart.
-
Its not so much those who \"cheated\" as those who benefitted from bugs. I fought a bugged rogue early on when using spells resulted in 1000s of PPs once he finally died. Well, it wasn\'t cheating since I didn\'t know he was bugged when I started the attack. I was in need of levelling my ways so I never sought out a cheat, I just benefitted from a bug. Now I have over 4000 PPs but not many tria to spend it on anyway. Perhaps karma is ingame afterall. ;) ;)
As for the wipe, it will be a benefit for some and a detriment for others. There\'s no getting around that. But in the end, it will be fair to all. I just use this time to try different things so I will have a better idea of what I want to do after the restart.
lemons...lemonade... :P

I\'m not sure if I\'m happy about the wipe or not.The time i\'ve spend working on my char and getting where i am in the game would be lost. There are a lot of skills not implemented yet i\'d like to try b4 i lose the chance to try them due to being poor again. Then again i was reading up on my chart again earlier to discover there\'s going to be a lot of double dmg being implemented against me.I\'m a Ynnwn doesnt look good for me in the future.I liked the char but it seems my dream of being a blacksmith making weapons armor etc will be out the window i\'m going to be allergic to the metals i need to use lol.Ah well maybe the wipes a good thing maybe not.It\'s out of my hands anyway so why worry :)
-
Somewhat of a tangent... but will more races be available after the wipe? I wanted to be a more humanoid, less feline female character, but the model hadn\'t been created yet. It would be awesome to get the race of my choice when I next start over.
-
wipe is a wipe is a wipe....
it just is. You can\'t be happy or sad about it for it\'s inevitable and as such you should embrace it and find your peace with in it

lemons...lemonade... :P
Ja! =D
Its been made quite clear from the start about the forthcoming wipe, And anyone ingame for more than three hours will probably overhear a conversation about it.
-
Maybe it\'s not clear for everyone. Or maybe it\'s not clear for me.
Everyone heard rumors about it. \"The Great Wipe shall come to clean your powkets and your head.\"
Since the news, about a wipe to come, was posted early after the releasing of CB, many are thinking that it will come soon.
But I am not sure everyone catches *why* the great wipe will come. I am not sure either. Here is what I understood.
What we call CB, Crystal Blue, is the alpha release of Planeshift. Not the beta as some other rumors are letting people think.
If we go back in time, what happened. We were in the pre-alpha tech demo, called MB, Molecular Blue. In the meantime the team was working on the alpha using new technologies avaliable - a hard task to restart from 0-.
The story of CB:
-Devs are testing alone, the alpha testing.
-Devs are opening a server for few selected testers, the closed beta.
-Christmas 2004, everyone can test CB, the open beta testing.
=>this is where we are.
- new features added, bugs discovered, cured
- cheats and exploits performed, patched
- changing the balance between spells, weapons, monsters, prices, armors, crafting, quests... to give everyone the same chances.
So what will we have after that? a lot of people with too much money, experience, training, because they expoited or were granted unfair advantages or simply used an advantaged way (by choice or luck). Once cured...it\'s time to end the \'open beta test\' and release the alpha.
** Here comes the wipe **
The alpha release, CB beeing done, the team can work on the beta release, codename SB(Something Blue) while players are in CB.
Now, consider how early in the development cycle of CB we are.
Optimists are saying that the wipe will come in a few months.
Everyone who lived in MB since the first planned release date in october 2003 heard this before \"in 2 months\" then the world famous \"Soon\".
Why wouldn\'t the wipe come before the end of development? because each new feature can have a bug giving an unbalanced advantage to its users.
Doing a wipe after each bug cured/formula updated would make our lives repetitive. Only major database breakdown would make it necessary to wipe. So far only a few rollbacks were enough (2/9/5).
Why was everyone warned about the wipe so early?
Imagine what will happen when, after months of trainings practicing, all will be wiped. We will hear a lot of cries...And it will be possible to tell them \"you were warned.\"
So don\'t worry, all what we do today won\'t be in vain. We can look for bugs to help the cure to come faster (use petitions), we can experiment, take some risks, learn how we will have to live...
There is one thing that will not be wiped: the friends we will meet before the wipe.
So unless I am totally wrong, people should not complain about changing spawns, new/gone/moved trainers, training for nothing.

I dont mind of the stronger players, because they can give you advice and stuff, of course it would be nice to be one of them, but shouldnt you play that game to get the best and thats way i dislike this erasing so much.. I wouldnt care if they got 400 trias for cheating, because everyone could get them by playing the game, but if your characters are erased what good are you supposed to get by playing the game, isnt it easier for cheaters to start the cheating for clean board? so they can be very much better than the honest players? (It might be hard to understand some of the sentences, sorry about that :) )

More like 40,000 tria, or 400,000 tria.

CB will be updated to SB in steps, not at all like MB to CB.
Obviously, one more time was needed at least for me :D
Well, it\'s good to know that we will have oportunities to explore at each step to look for added, changed and removed stuffs. Waiting in a stable but never changing MB seemed a bit long to many people.
For those who worry about losing trias, I wonder what they planed to do with them. If it is too count them to fall asleep, sheeps are more effective. Don\'t hesitate to spend your trias...Would\'t it be nice to know IRL that the bank will forget everything in a few weeks?
No database wipe will be able to remove the friendships between players.
Think about the tales you\'ll have to tell your childrens by the fireplace in SB.
Lorye and Nosredna are getting married soon. It\'s not a database that will end their vows.
*edit* never post at 4am unless you like to edit your typos
-
I say take advantage of this time. Gamble all your trias away, buy things you dont need, drop items on the streets, etc. :D
-
The wipe will be a blessing to me, maybe i will start playing again...

More than that. :) Due to the falka bug a while back, over 30 characters had more than 8 million circles. That\'s... god knows how many tria. Then of course there was at least another 30 characters after that with more than 5 million circles...
We purged them, of course. But the thing is, we obviously couldn\'t tell exactly who else had unfairly gotten their money, so not all cheaters were purged, nor could they ever be, unless we wipe the database and let everyone start fresh. This is just another small reason why the wipe is necessary for a level playing field, a balanced economy, and a cheater-free community.
-
The Sheeples vote in favor of a weekly wipe for a time. (exp & \'stuff\', not characters.) This will give people more time to think of the \'RP\' in \'MMORPG\'. Also, it will chase off the power levelers and expose the glitches \'cheaters\' use. However, I think people should have the choice to start out as a stronger character, not mighty, just stronger.
-
We don\'t want to do weekly wipes. The aim is to do as few as possible, only when we really need to do it.
-
Why was I not told of this money bug?!?! I was always poor! Hehe. I did make 12000 off the falka quest, but that is the reward from it normally.
Anyway, I would hate it if my characters where deleted, My new two that is, my old buggy ones I do not care about. Sorry if this was already mentioned or told, but will they do a transfer thing like they did before?

The wipe will be a full wipe. NOTHING will be transfered. Otherwise there is no point in doing the wipe. The only transfer there will be is the same transfer we had when going from MB to CB. i.e. you\'ll be able to migrate your MB char again.

Was that a bug that it was 50 circles instead of 50 tria? Or was it just changed later because it was deemed too high a payout? Or is it back to 50 circles now? *looks around*

The transfer from MB to CB has already been bad enough IMNSHO, and the only reason why I didn\'t relentlessly oppose it is the fact that it wasn\'t clearly stated that there would be no transfer. This has, luckily, been fixed with the CB beta test, and therefore there cannot be any doubt this time.
As for levelling and grinding: why should anyone be rewarded for this, while PS is about RP, not about grinding and levelling? Therefore, grinding and levelling is what takes secondary priority in PS, and should be treated accordingly: it is dispensable.
As I expected, I have been levelling very mildly, and have done a lot of RP and exploration instead, which has been more rewarding. I don\'t mind my money and levels getting wiped beacuse the wipe has very good reasons.

i have a suggestion for the devs. in a post i read oh so long ago, a dev commented that a particular player had been playing for a week, and spent, on average, something like 10 hours a day on planeshift. i believe the dev said something like \"some commitment!\"
anyway, this implies that the devs have some way of logging how long characters have been actively played. not how long since they\'ve been created, but how much time a player has actually spent in the world.
i suggest that this could be used when migrating players to give them a bonus. characters that have been played longer would start with PP\'s and/or trias to give them a little kick start. not a whole lot, but just something to get them on their feet.
just a suggestion, and of course, it may be impossible.

Let me be the first person to tell you to re-read your own suggestion and actually think about what it is you\'re trying to suggest. Is it really such a good idea as you first thought, or is it not? You\'ll realize that thinking about what you\'re going to share with the rest of the world will make you get so much longer than if you don\'t. :)
-
Jorrit said it best \"Alpha Test\", nothing else needs to be explained or said in the matter. If you can\'t accept it feel free not to share with us :P
-
will you be wiping dead player accounts... i mean 53059 accounts and only 42400... if we take into account that most player at average have 2 characters..that means there are aroun 22000 active players leaving 31000 accounts without characters...or rather inactive people....who registered but did nothing.
Maybe it is not such a big deal...but i always found it weird that there are so many more accounts then characters.

lol...more like 60,000,000!!!!!
no joke 8o

The whipe out is a need, that\'s obvious, but, if we are supposed to try the game implementations, we need to have access to them. i mean, to try any spell, i must have 2000 tria to buy it, beside the trias needed for training, i have been playing for a week or so, and i got arround 700 tria after hours of boring rat-skining.
It is just a personal opinion, and i\'m sure that you have discused this a hundered times, so this post is useless.

oops...the whole time i thought...all the characters will be deleted and not the player accounts.
I mean everywhere it says that characters will be lost...not players.... strange how it escaped me that i will have to re-register.

Obviously you have all forgotten this is a BETA TEST still.
Or maybe you\'ve never beta tested a thing b4 in your whiny little lives.Beta test\'s ALWAYS have PW
Grow up and learn how to read next time!!!

A little on the flaming side?
Anyway the devs have explained that this will be the only major wipe in PS and you wont have to expect this again (I think there will be minor wipes of certien things later on) Its just one wipe and besides when the wipe happens Im sure new things would have been implimented so more ways of making tria is a little easier for starting users.
-
Think about it plain and simple. A fresh new start for everyone. At least now, you can go waist your money and try new things. Explore a bit and get ready for the next release (SB?). Anyway... theres always conflicts with any decision and I would know, iv been here since 03\' trying to help. Iv been on and off with this game and let me tell you, you never know what to expect. I never got my stuff transfered from MB to CB and you know what, im not that mad. Life goes on, live with it. -Shit Happens-

i\'m having trouble seeing the current design as a balanced economy... when i first started, i would die facing the weak rats. and with no training and no trias to get training, the only way to earn money was to kill rats... kinda hard to scratch out any kind of living when your only source of income kills you...

I think they mean you can keep your chars name, not its stats :)
I do hope I can finally make my reall char now, with the name that didnt extually get into CB after the migration. It got stuck XD

if cb is going to become sb bit by bit how will we know when we are playing sb.

sorry i just worked it out the wipe right. ;)

Well that\'s how it was when CB started too. Every MB player got a chance to migrate crystals and they were converted to trias. The MB->CB migration will simply be repeated.

True, I wish tefusang dropped more than one tooth sometimes or more rogues dropped stuff, but I can see why the devs are doing it this way..
given than there is an impending wipe, if there were more ways to earn tria, more players would have more to lose with a wipe. Then there will be more complaints or pleas to keep their money.
Hopefully once the wipe happens and all these bugs are worked out THEN monsters can drop more and there will be more quests with higher payouts so we can earn money faster.

Im sure that after the wipe, if it is anytime soon, players will put more effort into their characters, RP a bit more, explore, and with luck, a few things will be added as well.

Its always better to be optimistic then antagonistic. Did I say that correct? Anyway, you must have confidence in the PS team. I assume they are doing all they can with the free time they have. Considering the wipe, if i was them, I would get it over with already because people are just getting mad as they stall. Personally, and i mean no offense to anyone, just get it over with and wipe everything. Let people actually start to build their characters. But hey, others have opinions too. :P

Obviously you haven\'t even noticed the major bugs that crept up just yesterday and a few days before? These did cost some players substantial amounts of tria (yes, I am one of them). Therefore, PS obviously is not close to being mature enough to wipe. Also, there have been reports about possibilities to cheat on the char creation, which are currently being investigated. In light of all this, doing the wipe now would inevitably lead to another wipe in the not too distant future.
As for \"people will RP some more\": RP is about the only thing that makes any sense before the wipe. After it, people will be occupied grinding and levelling, and I expect less RP then.
Building the char is a two way thing, I won\'t deny this, but all too often, especially with new players, it focuses on stats and skills and most chars don\'t even have the faintest trace of background. This isn\'t going to change after the wipe, so what makes you expect more RP afterwards?
-
I said I expect more RP now out of common sense. Now there really isint a point to lvling and such because it will all be wiped anyway. Besides, its fun to take a break and converse and help other people. (RPing.. now.)

computed to \"wipe done=more RP\". Now I see what you actually meant to say.

I think it\'s unrealistic to think that their is gonna be a wipe soon that would allow you to start building some permanent character. You can see this yourself, old bugs get fixed, features get added, new bugs come in. Ir\'s pretty normal in development. I bet if they would do a database purge in this year they would have exploited money and stuff in the game before a month had passed. So it seems a little bit unreal to me to let people think their is gonna be some kinda wipe that will fix the exploited money problems.
Maybe it would be better to just let the people keep the money they got from exploits and put of a wipe to new year or something. Offcourse this is without garanties cuz a wipe might be needed in the mean time for testing economy balance or something. Devs have a free hand in this.
I wanne RP a mage not some drunk that hangs around the bar all the time. (: With that impending thread of wipe above our heads it\'s hard to gather the will to raise the money to buy myself more glyphs. How long will I be able to enjoy my hard work, a week? a month? a year? I\'m starting to think it will be the last one. Maybe the dev team should review their stands on this issue.
In the long run I think it will be needed to have a game server and a test server aside from eatchother before we can have a permanent player database and even then it will be impossible to keep the exploited money out. A strong server side logging and checking of the clients is needed for this and the devs are working on this as far is I\'ve read.

*Holds up a sign which reads* Save the rats from total annihilation!
Seriously, from the current point of view, what will people do after the wipe? They\'ll fall over rats like hordes of madmen. I suppose almost any given rat in the sewers will have a line standing behind them and people will start to draw numbers when it\'s their turn to kill them.
What I hope to get from the wipe? A chance to select my character\'s basic stats and history anew - I picked them rather wrong the first time, it seems.
