Title: Glyphs, Ways, and Whatnot
Post by: Karistina on March 18, 2005, 11:21:02 pm
I tried a forum search, but after clicking on over a dozen threads that didn\'t help at all, I figured it wouldn\'t hurt to ask. *flinches in case she\'s wrong*

Is there a way to tell what Way a certain glyph belongs to before purchasing it?

If you buy a glyph but are not trained in that Way, can you use the spell it teaches?  Will it just be less effective than if you knew the correct Way?

I\'ve only just saved up enough money to invest in magic, and the available information leaves a lot of questions unanswered.  I just wasn\'t sure if that was intentional or not.

Okay here are the glypth assigned ways

Cold-Blueway/ Spell=Freeze
Arrow-Crystal way/ spell=Summon Missle
Weakness=Dark Way/ spell=Weakness

Animal=brownway?/spell=not implimented

I reccommend trying arrow since summon missle is an offense a spell. But you need to have a 1 or training in the skill to summon a spell.

The color tones of the rune basically tells you what way it is. Which is not intuitive at all at the moment, because there is only one rune of each of four different ways, so you have nothing similar to compare them to.

For example, the Dark Way runes all have a black icon with a red glow, like the Weakness rune currently available. The names are a hint also - using the Dark Way as an example again, it is the domain of death and evil, so Weakness which doesnt really fit into the Good/ Air/ Fire/ Water/ Earth ways and domains but does fit well into a domain of Evil is probably going to be Dark Way.

If your skill is at zero in a Way, you need to buy enough training in the Way to get all of the Yellow skill bar turned to Green ( the same point at which you can then get experience in mining, or using a sword ) before you are able to cast spells associated with that Way.

The effectiveness of the spell like anything else goes up as you get more skilled in the Way. With zero skill you will be able to practice it enough to get to a skill of 1, provided you have enough initial training.

Precisely Draklar, one can only assume that these will be the glyphs used when they are eventually added in-game. There is still only one glyph of four out of six ways in game, so the confusion over which glyph belongs to which way is quite understandable, no?

Or perhaps every new player should read every zip file, source code header and xml file in detail before venturing into the world of planeshift. I know which I would find easier.

Just stating that, in fact, there is something to compare them to.
