I HATE camping! I went with a scouts/youth group thingy on friday and went through hell. I got to the camp at around 9 pm and it was raining... Since about 4/5 of the people where kids under 13 I had to do about 5 people\'s worth of work. In one nite I set up 3 tarps, 4 tents, took down 2 tents, empted a u-hall truck with like 4 other guys, set up a kitchen withthe help of one person, cleaned the campground, and then finally took care of my own needs at around 2 or 3 am. (yes all that was done in the rain and since my bag was in the uhall truck i was stuck in shorts and a shirt) The next morning they woke me at about 5 am. The first thing I did was go outside because my tents rain cover had flowen off and the right side of my tent was completly flooded. I was on the right. After working in the rain for about 20 mins I got the cover back to normal. I then proceeded to bail out and clean our tent until 7 am when everyone else started to wake up. I then rolled up sleeping bag and clean my stuff. Then I went outside and did exercises in the rain for 30 mins :) fun...
By now both my sweaters where soaking my shoes soaked and ruined and already down 3 pairs of socks. I then had to prepare my groups tent for our daily inspection, which we horrably failed due to the leak...
It was then breakfast time but I was given more work to do since I failed the inspection and I was my tents leader. So by the time i got to breakfast there was nothing left except three slices of toast and some peanut butter that a friend had saved for me.
When I got back from breakfast I saw my favorite sight of the whole camp. The biggest ideot in the world didn\'t know how to work our tents zipper and broke the door so it couldn\'t close. So, throughout the day as the rain came and went constantly My tent would get looded our \"waste time\" activities they fed us luch which was the best meal I had the whole time. A burger and a hot dog...
Next was our personal time in which I was sent to set up a monstrosity made of ropes and wood wich in the end became a giant alter thingy about 30 feet high and held our flags and stuff. My next job was to take apart some poles tied up together to make a bridge over a huge mud puddle. Now, tell me, how could I take off the ropes and ties when everything is in the mud and tied down? Yes, go into the mud. So, for about 15 mins I sat in the mud and work my butt off trying to do my job. Then, one of my supiriors sent my a random kid probably 12 or 13 to help me out. He took one look at me, said \"I don\'t want to get dsirty\" and I didn\'t see him for the rest of the day. Now normally when somone walks froma job they would get about 300 pushups and would be kepth up outside until 3 am but I was way too tired to get up from the mud and chase him. Plus, its not a one man job to get out of mud that deep.
The next thing we did I reeally enjoyed though. All the older guys about 16-20 years of age gathered up from my group and another group and had a team vs team rumble on a nearby beach. This turned into pure chaos since about 20 people where runiing back and fourth taackleing random people, hitting eachother in the face, etc. I, being a good fighter (not to show off or anything) had a lot of fun. Even though I was younger that most of the people I was able to put up a ggreat fight. I disabled two guys from the rumble, one by flipping him when he had a hold on me and another aparantly got hit in the nads when I tackled him... The whole fight went on for about 20 mins until we had all lost all our energy and ended up collapsing on the beah and enjoying the few minuts of sun we could get.
At dinner time we had a tug of war contests which we ended up breaking the rope while pulling O.o
Dinner that night was horrable since I got about 1/2 of what I should have had because greedy people kept taking more than they should have. After dinner which was around 9 we went and did some stuff around a campfire and then at 12 they read the list for the nights \"gaurds\" I ended up getting the last shift. (5am to7 am) Which wasn\'t too bad but did cut off a lot of time from my sleep that I despratly needed. When my shift was done I went back to my tent and bailed it out for the final time. I then woke my kids up and sent then out to do stuff while I actually relaxed for a little bit during the camp by playing poker with some guys. Then after a while I was informed that breakfast was about 30 mins ago so I had no breakfast on the last day. My next thing to do was to take down some the 4 tents I put up and roll them up. And if any of you have ever tried sticking a tent back into the bag it came out of will know how impossable this is. After that me and about 10 others where sent to take down the huge thingy we built yesterday which ended up taking up most of our time left until 12 pm. After that I was sent to start putting all the tents and poles and stuff back into the U-hall truck. On one of my trips down the stairs I had a great idea. Heck Ill draw a picture for you:

So, after this I spent a long time in the bathroom cleaning myself with some paper towels, a bar of soap, and a sink. I Changed my cloths when I got clean and stuff. Then, finally, around 2 we left hell and started our 3 hour bus trip back homewhich prooved to be quite fun actually. But this was still the worst camp I have ever been to. I spent more time working building and taking apart thing than I did doing everything else combined.
I hate the rain, I hate mud, I hate nature. As far as im concered, I never want to see a drop of water again.
Thanks if you read the whole thing, your choice though. I just thought I might entertain you guys with the story of my 3 day suffering...

Hahahah. I had a crappy march break meself...I was sent to some campish thing for a couple days with a bunch of obnoxious 12 year olds. Seriously. Since I was the biggest one there I had to help out in everything, the matresses were solid so after sleeping there I couldn\'t use my arm for two days, and the kids wouldn\'t stop picking on me for my fuzzstache. I had to(literally)beat one kid with a big stick so he would stop throwing snowballs at me.
At least I had my own dorm.
Ohh also one of the guys brought a didgeredoohickey and we played a prank on the girls. Made them thing there was something wrong with the pipes and trapped one in the basement. XD

Dude, your youth group doesn\'t know how to camp.
It also seems that they expected you to.
If done right, camping is relaxing, not hell. I know from experience.
/me wonders how many people who camp in midieval game don\'t know how to camp.
-
It usually is. Its just that there where 5 groups and each one has 2-3 leaders that are around 23 that organize and set up everything. 5x3=15 so 15 leaders should have been there and 6 showed up. Hence the dissorganization and hence the pure hell I suffered doing so much work. The rain didnt help eighther.

Yeah, its a cool group. i was in it for a while, before i knew efflixi. thinkin of joining again.now that im not such a pussy. =))
lol all they do is play tackle games and stuff. its fun stuff.
-
Well actually somone broke his...face. While playing football and we arn\'t allowed to play tackle games anymore since it\'s non-profit and people can\'t come to harm if its non-profit.
But we still play a bunch of stuff every now and then :D

Ok..so you where prettymuch the boy scout pack mule??

May sound rude , but you should do this more often, actualy ,i miss the days i was a scout, when you know howto do the stuff, and when you are used to do this , it s no problem even if it s rainin or so well, it s still boring as hell cause you have nothing to do , but it s less paintfull.
Like, get tools so you can dig a line next to the tent ( 10-20cm is enought), and make sure all the water is going there, and not inside, train to setup the tent propertly , even without digging not too mutch water should do into a tent. If the water came from the top it usualy means than there s a hole inside ( stupid, but you should have somone to check up tents sometimes) or than you didn t set up your tent propertly, like it s very important when it s rain than the inner part of the tent doesn t touch the upper part, cause none is immune to water, but the watter is suposed to hit the top part then be struck inside, and then flow on the side.
Make sure everyone takes launch at the same time, make peoples sit in 1 circle , make 2 peoples server the food , so that everyone can soo how mutch food everyone get. And you don t get screwed when your turn comes, make sure the guys who serve the food serve themselveslast, also the cooks have to clean the stuff they used to cook, else they are just gonna make it all dirty whole cooking and don t care (or you can buy black soap but it s very dirty) .
If you are using those 300$ tents wich comes in 3 parts with metals bars inside. the bottom is square , it s easy to do. For the 2 other parts: you need 2 peoples , they grab the tent near the holes at top , start to run with it ( yes) so it s all very flat, you put the 2 triangular part on the midle, with 1 guy sticking his hand on the corner so it s all flat. now you should have a rectangular shape then ( i dont know the word for it) you put one half on the top of the other , then again then again, then you roll that very tightly( have to do this while apllying lotta strenght ) and put everyting in the bag.
The same methode should be used with other kinds of tents

The food will never be given in an orderly fasion. It\'s against nature.
And no need to help me with tents. I can set one up within 5 mins alone if i can see what im doing. And the tents we use are 12 person tents so its more like a octangular dome with 2 little thingys popping out on the side.
Packin em um is a little tougher but I always get the job done :)
-
I used those tents too , as well as the 8 rooom version
The 12 room versions are like 2x6 with 2 metal bars , and 8 room versions are 1x8 with 3 metals bar.

Hey hey hey don?t complain about camping unless you where on the 2000 camp with cubs. Worst camping trip ever, here is one of the many mishaps that happened.
One of the fireworks that was meant to be on the display toppled over and went straight into groups tent, unfortunately it didn?t explode :p.
Oh and the bloody rain. I went through that hell and all I got was a lousy fake medal saying Millennium Camp!
Of course I wouldn?t want to steal your topic
