I love them, i know you do too.
It would be really great if those came into play in this game. I mean it would be great to waste your money on something like that. And they dun have to be really great mini games, something along the lines of POng would do. You could win little prizes that would would not be albe to get anywhere else. And the more the cost of the game, the better, and rarer the prize is. It would also be great if those games be multiplayer, so you could play others at it. I know, i know, u say what is the point of mini games in a game itself, you can just go on some Yahoo server and play there, but that would mean leaving a game. This way if you get tired of fighting, you can take a brake and relax at a local bar, and enjoy a game of whatever... :D
-
This is the best idea i\'ve heard for quite a while. I think that the mini games should be somehow tied into the big game. Not like pong (Or at least a planeshift themed version of Pong).
Maybe there could be a place like the market in zelda: ocarina of time, where there are different shops you can go into, offering different games.
-
I think that would be a cool idea bring back galaga pong al the great classics of the old days wait im a little too far into the future i think they would have to have some modifying to go with the rpg attmisphere (spelling?) or maybe all new games only on ps
-
One of the mini games could be a 2d, space invaders type game, but using the flying animals (I forgot what they\'re called).
Maybe a platform game, like the very, very old mario style games where you jump up to all the platforms. It would be 2d and you would have to avoid all sorts of meanies to get to the stairs that take you up to the next level of the cave. At the end of the top level would be after a little boss, would be a nice reward.
-
The idea is very good. Reminds me from FINAL FANTASY 7 Golden\'s Saucer (or something like this, don\'t remember it in a while), or perhaps even something like FF8 Triple Triad. The idea have lots of potential, a slong as the mini-game aren\'t useless and have some prize or challenge.
-
Some ideas for minigames:
Monster Arena: Players can bet on a winning monster dueling other monsters.
Battle Arena: Same principle. Two people of equal race or near level can battle each other. People can try betting on the winning one.
Casino-type games
-
\"Battle Arenas\"
Geez.

Excactly.
The \"golden saucer\" made FF7 a great deal better.
Even after you finished the game you had lots to do at the golden Saucer,
It would be kinda cool with some huuuge \"gaming arcade\" thing in Planeshift, where players could relax.
Also in mini games what about betting?
You could like bet 100 tria on yourself playing against another player, if you win you walk out of there with 200 tria in your pocket, if you lost... well, bad for you.
-
ill second that. one of the best ideas ive heard.
i think you should be able to win NPC slaves for winning arena fights :D they could mine and farm and stuff like that for you.
-
Roflmao!
Slavery, haha, what if you could enslave real players?
Wooo that would rule, lol, this game is gonna be weird considering all these ideas :D
-
The idea is good, but this kind of stuff is only to be discussed in later stages on the game. But don\'t worry, as they are and will be carefully discussed. Long live to the chocobo races! :D
-
yessss!!! we gotta have some kind of bird like creatures to race on! :D
-
I didn\'t said that hahahah
I hope we ever get something like that, but like I said, everything regarded mini-games is still to be - and will be - discussed
-
I loved those chockoboes
And the way you had to breed them to get different kinds (took me quite a long time to get a golden one)
Man, been a long time since I played ff7, I seriously gotta find that game.
-
The best mini game in a MMOPRG that i have played would be a Race type of thing. YOu can tame dogs, and than rain them by letting them fight with you, and than you enter them in an event, like a dog race, and ppl bet oh you. It would be really cool, but instead of dogs, PS can use like spiders or something along those lines. 8)
-
how bout big dragons! you find eggs in dragons lairs and raise them :D assuming of course you can kill the dragon guarding the eggs. and maybe sometimes there isnt one guarding the eggs. but the more powerful dragon eggs should have a higher probability of being guarded.
-
There must always be a balance of risk and reward. And there must also be fun. I think this is a very good idea as long as all mini-games are planeshift themed and \"fit\" into the world (so no Space Invaders or other Arcade style games). I imagine in the world of planeshift there would be special card or board games (or perhaps a totaly unique game usings stones?), and the multiplayer aspect is definitly appealing. I would also like to see the Battle Arena idea where players can sign up to fight the champ. Records can be kept of who has won the most fights.
After the fight we can all sit down to play the Planeshift card game... but no using magic to cheat ;-)
-
I just wanted to chime in cause I find this funny. Not funny that I think it is a dumb idea or anything. I just find it funny cause thinking about it makes me laugh. We don\'t yet have an actual game yet but people want mini games in to play while playing. I just find that a bit comical don\'t you?
Oh well one game I liked and sure killed the down time was a little thing in EQ. They took the icons used for spell memorization and used them in a gems type game. You linked so many of the same icon and you got the spell effect to enhance the game.It was pretty neet especially getting 4 damage shields. Levitate really sucked though......
-
heh, yeah that is funny :)
that EQ really has you brainwashed tho :(
-
Yeah, I like this idea about mini-games.
How about some minigames you could play at the local tavern? It would be games like \"poker\", \"roulette\", \"Blackjack\" etc. in those game you bet money (oops, I just read your reply Rageburst) ;) There could also be some kind of card trading game (Yes, I got the idea from FF8 ), and cock-fighting (with monsters).
There could also be a \"dart\" minigame, and a bowshooting-game (in game).
Here\'s some more...
*Memory
*Throw-the-dice
*Drinking-contest (no, I\'m not serious :D )
*arm-wrestling
*music-contest (In this game you must press the button in the right second to make the music sound good)
-
Nah EQ doesn\'t have me brainwashed.... They just picked on a game I happen to really like. Gems is a great little mind game to play.
Dice is a good game cause you can just set it to a random generator.... IE you type in a code like /dice or maybe /roll and it sets off a little random number thing that picks a number from 1 and 6, well depending on how many sides the die are that are chosen to be used.
Just had a thought.... It could remain 1 through 6 but you could add to the comand how many die you wish to cast. IE /roll 2 would roll two die and you could play craps.... do /roll 6 and tally the numbers to random off items to the best roller.... Stuff like that, could not only be fun in a tavern but could also settle disputes.... \"Hey I wont that.\", \"I saw it first.\", \"But I could really use it.\", \"But I need it.\".... \"Ok fine the three of you roll for it... the highest of six die wins.\"
-
While we\'re at it, why not include red & white balls that we can use to throw at creatures and maybe even other players to catch them, train them, and then eventually have them fight for us! hehehehe :P
-
This is an awsome idea !
Everyone, ask your grandfathers and such for games they played as kids and get good descriptions of rules etc. No arkade games, nothing out of style, just good games, like the ones kids played in the old days. I would like to see horseshoe throwing and (beware of the lousy translation) \"throwing at the stick\" game my uncle told me about.
And Card games, with nice decks with pictures of gods and godesses on them. A picture of Link as the Joker is a must. Dice games, wich are simple to make. Chess, checkers, special card games like in might & magic 7.
I would hate a casino with flasy lights and slot machines. I dont think we should even call it a casino, but a gaming house, or the house of games or somethinh like that. Casino reminds me of Las Vegas.
-
I don\'t think the risk that there will be \"flashy lights Vegas style\" is very big...I mean in PLaneshift they havn\'t discovered electricity yet right..? I\'m not sure about the \"slot machines\" either...
Mini-games should be a social game where many people participated. I really want to see people play Poker around a table with thousands of trias (in game money) lying on the table, and scary guys with weapons twice their size and pipes that makes the tavern become filled with smoke.
I havn\'t even seen Link...Even if he WAS on the cards nobody would recognize him right ;)

can you say pokemon ripoff? :P cool idea tjough. if it were to be implemented it should have a unique system. like instead of balls maybe they could use \"capture crystals\" :D
-
Erm, hmm...doh...
I\'m not sure I like the idea about pok?-crystals...
For one thing, Pok?mon is evil and must burn in hell, and I think it would be better if you use a \"summon\" skill to summon creatures.
Or if you\'re a ranger you should be able to tame the animals and have them fight for you.
There should be a \"monster\" shop somewhere in the world where you could buy already tamed creatures to fight on your side.
Even if it were \"crystals\" instead of pok?balls, it wouldn\'t be unique because the resemblance is too big.
-
I have the feeling Fanomatic was being sarcastic...
-
Hey, this isnt really a mini game idea but i was wondering, i think for archers insted of just clicking on the enemy and instantly fireing the arrow perfectly you should have to do like a power and acuraccy bar when you fire....I dont know I thought that wuld make it more uniqe and alot less boring..
Also, for the card game(hoping there is one) There should be mosters and people and spells form the plane shift world and they have difrent attribute.....
p.s. the poke crystals is pushing on copyright infingment :P
-
Isn\'t that aiming thing already included? ?(
I don\'t think that PS is using the marking technique. The best thing would be if you played like in Zelda: Ocarina of time.
Of course you should have to aim on your own! :)
-
It should be like in all those 1st person shootemups with arrows. You hold down a button and you get some crosshairs. :D
Timing with a little bar shouldn\'t matter though. How far you full back the string and your skill should matter.
-

lol...actually it is completely legal as long as everything has a different name. and at least a tiny difference.
-
thats why there can be 2 george bushs... cuz of the W...
maybe bush minigames, where u try to figure out why bush is a retard?
-
Uh oh, this thread is going down...
This game is meant to be somewhat Unique right?
Stop talking about \"pok?crystals\", because that is just a ripoff and shouldn\'t be included in a game of this quality ;)
Who likes Bush anyway... ?( He\'s a cowboy who still belives that he live in the Wild West :D (Now go on with the thread please)

Alchemy contests.
Collect the ingredients, and make X different potions (Like 1 healing, 1 invissible, 1 unpoison, etc.) as fast as possible (faster than the other contestors).
There can also be groups that you will divided into, based on how much skill in alchemy you have.
-
Not a bad idea. It would be cool if there were many teams who cooperated.
-
I think a comprehensive baking system would do this game good. Characters find or buy ingredients and stick them together, not exactly knowing what is going to come out. You could actually go to an oven and time your cooking, and watch if it turns golden brown or the desired colour. If that could be accomplished, a baking contest could be made where the made items are rated from 1-100 or something in their description screen based on how well they were cooked, the ratio of ingredients, and the quality of ingredients. This could also be done with alchemy and brewing. Time would flow in the brewer even if you were on or not, and you would need to time it right so that it doesn\'t go bad. I don\'t know the plausability of this, but its just an idea.
-
Card games were mentioned earlier, so I thought I would post my idea for a typical PS card deck:
Card Deck Concept Idea:
6 suits of 7 cards each (42 cards total)
Each suit has 1-5 numbered cards, along with a Talad and Laanx aspect card.
The gods could be replaced by an Octarch and Vigesimi to better follow conventional deck.
The suits could be element based:
Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light, and Shadow.
Or you could also do a \'Way\' based suit system.
With this, many modern card games could be modified to fit this system, while it is different enough to add dynamics for new PS card games.
EDIT:
I had a second idea for a card deck in PS:
8 suits, 1 named for each level.
Each suit has an Octarch card, a Vigesimi card, and a Crystal card (takes place of Ace / 1).
The other suits have a decending number of cards. The first suit has numbered cards 2-8, the second 2-7....and the last suit has no numbered cards (just Crystal and Face cards).
You end up with a total of 52 cards.
You can probably think up some interesting gambling games with a deck like that.
-
And there\'s gotta be chess and checkers too! Don\'t forget them.
-
Grey:
while that baking system would be realist... it would also be boring as hell. My ideal game simulates a lot of realistic things from life, but leaves out all of the things that suck... that arent fun. Waiting for 2 hours for your cake to finish baking is not fun, especially if you wait a little too long and end up with burnt bread. This part of life sucks. Why would we want to reproduce it in a game? Wouldn\'t it be better to have it cook instantly? Games should not reproduce things that suck.
Aruneko:
i dont feel right about having games that are available on yahoo and in real life like chess and checkers... i like the idea of having original games... games that are similar to chess/checkers but still original and PS themed should be okay.
an example is: having a regular 4 suited 52 card deck would be unappealing, but having a deck of a type kinshadow mentioned would be original and interesting.
Cards may even be more complex with a different number in each of the 4 corners or along each of the 4 sides of the card. This could be used in the PS card game, which I will call \"Kanuk\". Kanuk may also involve some sort of iregularly shaped die (or dice). And so a combination of playing cards and throwing dice create the popular and challenging game of Kanuk. If this sounds interesting to anyone, I challenge you to create the rules for the game of Kanuk. :)
-
Hmmm, not a bad idea about the \"original\" games. That would make the game become more realistic (how the heck could games like chess be known in the world of PS?)
Well, I\'m not very good at coming up with rules...especially not now when I\'m tired and it\'s early in the morning :O
Let players give some suggestions about new card-games and board-games. It would be interesting to see what players could come up with :)
The baking idea isn\'t a bad idea thought. It would be good if you had to time the time right to success (not for 2 hours thought, 10 secs would be better, and the idea needs to be improved)
It\'s boring when you just collect the ingredients and put it in an oven (reminds me of the game-that-shall-not-be-named)
-
I would be excited of mini games too in Planeshift, i got an idea for a mini game. There could be a huge sphere for an arena where everyones watching. and all the warriors have to ride dragons and shoot the other players on the dragons, and when you attack the dragon enough it will fall to the ground, taking the player on the dragon with them, and the last one in the air wins money
-
Have you played \"Drakan: order of the flame ? I think it sounds very similar somehow :P
-
So is there the same mini game i was thinking of? Rats! why can\'t any of my ideas be original, lousy television and computer, you\'ve robbed me of creativity :baby:
