Title: Crashes
Post by: KalaTwo on March 29, 2005, 04:17:02 am
(Sorry I had to make another account, I reset my password and lost it)

I have made a character, and when I log in, it works well. Then I try to do something and it crashes...

My system specs are:
Operating System: Windows ME
Processor: Pentium 4
RAM: 255 MB
Internet: Cable Modem (Not sure about the connection speed)
I\'m not sure of my video or sound cards.

I turned off sounds, it still crashes.

Where do I send the diagnostic file?

host it on a free site and link it in the stickied thread in tech help, i beleive, state the problem too, as far as i can tell you need more ram

NO the RAM isn\'t. I have 248 and i was running PS quite perfectly until the last update yesterday. It introduced crashing bug.

I went to sewers to attack gobbles, it crashed, i went to ojaraod, it crashed.

So it always crashes whenever i try to enter a new region. While entering tavern, while getting out of it. It crashes. :( can\'t play now.

Update you\'r client if have not.

And disable sound you\'ll get less or no crashes.

Well, maybe your client would run better WITH more ram? You all seem to have the same prob. Try running the updater, close all programs, and cross your fingers. lol. If not, then its just a bug.

I don\'t think less RAM as a culprit. I have 248 and game seems very smooth. 20 FPS average, yeah a bit low because of built in IntelXtreme Graphics Card and because of a 56k dialup.

So i think u should update the minimum requirements page which show 512MB RAM as minimum requirements but that should be 256MB.

Planeshift runs ok on 256 plus a decent graphic card, so it cannot be the
reason. Forgot forum password, Kala, see here: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/misc2.php?action=forgotpw

Regards.

So you... you typed the message in caps... and you actually SAW you were typing in caps, enough to say \"soz\"... so why didn\'t you just fix it before pressing Submit Post?! O.O Odd... very strange... possibly scary. You scare me. :P

RAM is the cause of 90% of everyone\'s lag and other problems. 512 is a safe minimum- in some rare cases, PS runs ok with even less, but this is highly unusual.

I think 128MB may cause a lag, My 248MB Ram is even not Rambus or DDR2/3 it\'s old SDRAM but the game\'s still smooth experience.
Better confirm by more 256MBs out there.

Bottom line.. Looks like 512MB\'s Ram is a safe bet. Stick with that.
