Hello,
I would like to propose a slight modification of the description attribute in order to make the character more personnalized, for it takes a long time to create and animate 3D models, and some details are quite impossible to add.
Let\'s split the description window into \'immediate description\' and \'background description\'. Backgd descr. would remain invisible to other players because, watching someone, it should be hard to tell if he has siblings, or if he was born in a cave (unless your surname is Holmes...). The immediate description would be a quite small text (4 lines max.) indicating the immediate appearance of the guy: \"a sullen guy with wearing dusty poncho is staring at you with his burned blue eyes...\". It would be nice if this description could appear in Chat window as soon as the target is selected (removable with a flag in mouse configuration panel, as for on-mouse names display).
If you like the idea, at the same time two other description sub-windows could be made: \'full description\' and \'hidden\'.
\'Full descr.\' would be for a longer description, from feets to head, available only if the Eye icon is clicked (as it is now).
\'Hidden\' would be for a complementary descr. available only if a perception test is succeeded when the Eye icon is clicked, written immediately after the full description in the pop-up window: \'Under his poncho, you can see a boiler door hanged around his neck.\'
The backgound descr. would be only for personal rememberance, and shouldn\'t be displayed at all.

I simply changed the background description to extanded appearance description...
-
So did I, adding two lines of description at the beginning.
But I think this 4-levels description (immediate, full, hidden, background) is important for roleplay, and should be quite easy to implement as it is about 3 more text areas, 1 flag, 1 dice roll, and 3 events. (also probably a 2D dialog panel to redraw)
Moreover, I do not want that anyone can see that I have a lost twin, I ran with a gang few years ago, or I have a glyph on my belly ;) Neither I want to erase this info.

actualy i dont think other people can see that stuff.. just you, but i could be wrong n_n;;
stilll if they can then thats a pretty good idea

Never doubleclicked a character, Foresteer? :)
-
Huh? I never double clicked a character either. Suppose you should\'ve made it more clear.
-
Well, you can also select and then rightclick on the character... the eye will be your guide. ;)
As for the description: I also removed everything and inserted a text describing what someone will be able to see when looking at me. Everything else will be found out by IC observation / communication. As you can see, everything beyond the basic visual description is an RP issue and treated accordingly by me.
I think the char creation outcome was put in there simply to have something in there. It is more like a way to remove numbers from the creation process, not a limiting factor to your background. After all, think of the implications of 3000 people born with \"Crystal Eclipse\"... Has Yliakum been dark for one entire year without anyone noticing? Do they all share the same birthday? After all, the darkness in the forest / hills / Ojaveda is / was a bug, so... 8)

Nope never double clicked.. ive right-clicked and clicked the eye (same thing right?) and i didnt see any of that info... only saw that when i did that to myself
i think i once saw somebodies story info early in CB (like 4 days after release) though

Most people won\'t place anything in there manually, and I\'ve increasingly seen people with just their name in it. However, the view function itself works reliably, and yes, the eye is like doubleclick. I use it rather frequently, but in order to actually get to use the feature, you need to be relatively close to the target char (logical, because you can\'t see details from 100m distance IRL).

This actually adds a lot of RP value but the fact that lots of newcomers actually want to spend time filling in this information. Well they dont. They just wana kill kill kill, fight, sleep, repeat and rinse and continue. (Maybe it should be required in the future?)

I know they don\'t. :) Also, I don\'t think it needs to be mandatory. After all, this is, at least for me, an easy way to see if a char is worth to try to RP with. :) Furthermore, just imagine the junk that will be in there if it\'s mandatory... we already have enough trouble with simple matters as names, so I don\'t even want to imagine what it would be like with mandatory descriptions... :(

Maybe your right, but the people should take a little more time to look in depth into their character instead of just rushing into it. It really sucks the life and fun out of the game.
