Title: Bittorrent download time
Post by: Beebled on April 01, 2005, 07:14:22 pm
I searched for anything really related to this subject, but I couldn\'t find anything useful.

Does anyone else get an incredibly slow download time from Bittorrent (.4 kb/s)? My connection is definitely not slow, and I don\'t know what\'s wrong.

Yes, I have posted this in at least 3 threads already so dont say you already looked. I also have an incredibly slow download time so.. once again what I did was..

- Downloaded the program Download Accelerator Plus
- Used the regular download from the PS Site.
- Took me about 1hr and 30 mins which i consider fast for this program.
- Updated and ran perfectly.
- (Note: I did not use bittorent download, I used the regular one.)

I have tried that trick using Go!Zilla but I get a 404 File not Found when I start the download (and with bittorrent I also get a download rate of 0 or 1 kps... while the d***ed upload speed is like 4! uploads (which I have not authorized and dont want) are sucking all my bandwidth!)) Anyone know of a mirror? I\'m on dialup and so far this file says it will take me 4 days to download (when I\'ve downloaded entire CDs in that length of time)

My last idea failed when I tried to search for Planeshift on Gnutella... seems that it\'s not very popular... atleast not at this time of night...

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Generally people who experience slow speeds on BT with a good connection are behind a firewall/router.  You\'ll either need to allow BT acess on your firewall program, or open up some ports (most BT programs you can configure which ports to use if you want to change them).

Night: you can use the Fragnetics (http://www.fragnetics.com/download.php?file=planeshift)  download if you wish, its only version 0.3.006, but the updater will take care of that.  Bittorrent is not really a good idea for dialup users as you are required to upload as you are downloading.

Firstly, I commend BitTorrent\'s \"community spirit\" and have no problem sharing my bandwidth so that another potential player may enjoy PlaneShift.  What I do object to is when my download appears to crawl to a halt at 80% and does nothing but upload for hours.

What I wanna know is, if BitTorrent does swap \"tit-for-tat\", who\'s the cheap bugger holding out on my share, eh?

I used the fragnetics link and then patched the install using the updater and ON 56K I did it in just under 24 hours! (long time, yes, but on 56K 200-300 mb in 24 hours is unheardof!)

And the Bittorrent said it\'d take a week phht! (lol)

Thanks for the link, ghostslayer!
