When I started out my intitial impression was \"wow! this world is pretty spiffy\" but it soon turned to \"Holy crap what the hell am I doing here. I asked around and about 20 people told me to RTF (read the f-ing manual). I did, it didn\'t help. My conclusion: There needs to be some system in place where new players to the world are shown where to start(where to make a few trias). I understand there will be an \"intro quest\" later, but what I mean is: When a new character is created players spawn in an area where they select what they will become. ie swordsman, axeman, fisherman etc. They should then recieve the very basic tools to learn that. I was totally thrown off by spawning in a world with no money, no tools and no guide... It would help to have atleast one of these to buy the bare necessities.
Also, training: it would be nice to have slightly decreased active training. What i mean is, instead of having to see a trainer every rank, I suggest you be able to gain a few ranks on your own with practice. For example, noob swords man learns his way to lvl5 but then his a plateau, he goes to see a trainer who teaches him a new technique. He practices that technique until he has perfected it (by then lvl 10). Just force the accumulation of more PP and more trias per training session so instead of 4 PP per rank in axe it would be 20 and the proportionate amout of money.
Variety of monsters that are worthwhile to kill. I know for a noob the monotony of killing rats is ridiculous, but its the only thing worth killing when you are weak. Nothing in this worth gives you trias except tefusangs and rats. and to be honest killing either is boring. There needs to be a variety of monsters all with varying amounts of loot depending on their difficulty. Noobs shouldnt have to sit in the sewers for 3 hours killing rats at their spawn, they should be able to walk through the sewers taking on other monsters, hopefully the monsters get harder as you get deeper into the sewers, encouraging group hunting.
Themed hunting grounds: say there was a desert section of the world, you would fight scorpion type monsters, desert bandits, Desert falcons(huge ass birds), and so on. Make hunting more of an experience then waiting for the next tefusang in the valley to spawn.
Dungeons, similar to the above, lava dungeon with fire typed monsters, water dungeons with water type monsters... you get the idea.
Player/GM run events! anything from an easter egg hunt to a tournament to a GM led quest against. Basically just interaction with the world itself, not always with NPCs.
Lastly, a library(for rping) if it were possible for players to write books and leave them in a library for other players to read it would be hella cool, especially for RP. It would also allow the GMs a more IN CHARACTER way to explain the history of the world via study in the libraries!
Those are just a few of my ideas please don\'t flame me if some of that stuff already exists. I just don\'t know about it yet. thanks for listening cheers.

I do agree that they could help new players out a LITTLE. They should be informed on how combat, quest, ect. work. They shouldn\'t be given any quest help, location help, npc location help, ect. though. If this occured, roleplaying would be wiped out of existance with the flow of new characters who do no work at all to learn the world nor roleplay to do so.
Also, the skills system is better off as is. A master is always needed in reality to teach a young apprentice the arts of anything. Its not like the MATRIX over here. Also, the current system helps for roleplaying purposes. However, I am just one voice so anyone thats interested in the direction of this topic plz speak up.

Well, all I know is, I help A LOT when im in game. Actually, thats all I log in for nowadays. Advisor mode/looking for bugs. Anyway, ask away if you see me online, be happy to help ya.

Quite frankly I\'d have to say that while this is true, it\'s just one more thing on the long list of things that the devs need to do, and are aware that they need to do.
-
Yeah, most of what you pointed out is just common sense really. The only reason we don\'t currently have newbie tutorials/starting items/etc is because nobody has made all that stuff yet. :)
Anyway, the manual will tell you everything you can do. If its chat commands you\'re looking for, just type /help in the chat box. That\'s about it really- just explore and remember that you\'re a tester of an alpha-stage program, not a player of a completed game. :)

Yeah dude you should have looked at this other thread about an academy for new players

This game is by far one of the Most Beautiful games i have ever played for free. but the Rpg System is horrenduS! It\'s so hard starting off. Higher level People who know magic kills rats from range and with easy causing close-combat fighters an imposible lvling up experience. How Can I make Money if there is so few rats and SO Many People. we need more RATS!!!!!!!!! also Armor shouldnt be so expensive. Why yall don\'t create different types of Armor like Lizard Scale, Chani-mail, and other various levls so the prices can be adequate with the defence it gives you. Also i would like to see magic for freE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the training system and money for killing monsters needs to be improved, and it will be, all in due time. Im sure the devs have plans for all these things to happen in the future.

Or... y\'know, not really. Could you stop being so spazzy in your posts? Honestly, I think a single exclamation mark makes a point enough. Twenty of them just makes you look silly. And can I suggest great great great great great patience for more things in-game? Haven\'t you been here long enough to know that complaining for lack of features will only make others want to bash your head in with a club? ;)

Arblem, I did the same thing on my first post. I came in with my opinion about the game and got flamed to hell and back for it. I also, got accused of complaining.
Some people do not appreciate the views of fresh eyes, they only see what they want to see and want you to see it their way also, and even tell you to post the way they want you to.
I understood your post as some recommendations for ways to improve the game. You may or may not have realized that Plane Shift is a game that is continually under development and is no where near the finished product. But this category is \"Wish List\" and maybe one of the open-minded dev\'s will come along and say, \"hey, that\'s a good idea.\" :)

Yeah I agree, the system is really harsh on newbies.

There were a few threads on this, somewhere. One of the ideas is to have the leftover creation points be cashed out as starting money. (it\'s hard to use up exactly all of the CP anyway) The sooner the devs get around to fixing the rather buggy creation system (try clicking finish with negative CP... you\'ll find a few bugs as you try to correct it...), the faster these things will be balanced out for newbies.
I\'d like to see a weak starting weapon set. (also would be good mid-level dropped items)

Persecution complex now? ;) Honestly Teegress, was anyone flaming Arblem for his thread? If anything, other posters readily agreed to his points. Maybe you need to cool off a little about this whole game in general :)

Maybe I am. :)
Maybe a smilie makes critical inuendos sweeter. ;)
Maybe one \"great\" would have made the point. ;) Five of the them seem a little spazzy.

In case you haven\'t noticed there is something called a help channel.
I could do with a few people asking for help. It would help me get my advisor points ;)
