there was a post about this...moogie or some moderator explained it nicely
i think it was two things
-people are under 18 aren\'t usually as good as they think they are
-if they are that good they can join but with written consent of parents...but you must prove you\'re good...i am not sure how\'s that done exactly.

or it was something like that. i did search i couldn\'t find the thread.

You don\'t NEED to be 18 to join, but it\'s good if you are

If you really have the skills to join the team if you\'re under 18, talk to one of the leaders and prove it.

Indeed. The 18 age limit is really to filter out all the kids who don\'t have the skills or dedication or time to become a member. This doesn\'t mean that you can\'t join if you\'re under that limit, but it means that you\'ve got to prove yourself quite a bit. Both me and Androgos are under 18 for an example :)

Well considering being under 18 means you are still at school etc I think it is best that you learn in school, do well, get some experience in the IT industry and THEN worry about getting a job.. or helping out a project like this in your spare time.

For instance, I am in grade 11, my second last schoolyear. I have begun a traineeship (like a course but with a company) with a company that develops computer Tutoring program. I am a trainee programmer :D. So when I finish school I will have my grade 12 certificate, 1 certificate for work experience with the company and also a traineeship certificate with the company. Also having previous experience in retail I can work with customers.

Basically I am building my skills because I am going to a college, which I pay for a 2 year course to get a degree. Bachelor Of Interactive Entertainment: Major in Games Programming.

well education depends on the country ofcrource. you ahve 12 grades? :| my god.

We can be done with school at our 16th. You still have an obligation from the law to go to school, but you take a one day school think and work the other 4 days. And have a weekend.

It all depends.

And for you, well if you are good enough then you can try to join ofcrouce :) I know I aint :P

Ya I was planning to join but decided not to since I\'m a lazy bum. :P
Androgos and Xordan arn\'t 18 btw.
And each position has its own requirements so just check em out for the job you want and see if you meet em.

Edit: Yes I\'m stalking you both don\'t bother asking. :)

It\'s also due to legal reasons now that Atomic Blue is an officially recognised non-profit organisation.

Concidering the game is still in early beta, I am not surprised at the age limit.  I did manage to get my daughter allowed on Ryzom\'s open beta, but I had to agree to be logged in on a character that was in the game world in the same place as her and I was told that if she did anything bannable, we would BOTH be banned.

I filed the bug reports on bugs she found and filed one comment she had and three suggestions she had.

It is sad that the more mature teens get a raw deal because of their more childish piers, but that is how things work.

It is not an insult, the human brain does not finish maturing until late teens early 20s, and teens do things they know better than to do and deeply regret later.

Er... there\'s no age limit to playing the game, Lyrah.

How the heck is it due to legal reasons? It is non-profit so? I don\'t understand how that has anything to do with someone being 18 or not to help the project? Not exactly child labour

Your parents sign any paper work for you if you\'re under 18. So there aren\'t really any legal issues.

um I\'ve had a job since I was 15 starting for a corporation and now an oilfield company and my parents have never signed for anything. They were never required to..

That\'s because you didn\'t have to sign a NDA. Different agreements have different requirments.

Just because I would like to create a cooler atmosphere I would like to come back to the thread title :
over 18? why!

And yeah Im wondering over 18? why! why growing up over 18 ?

Some people must be wondering the same queston : are people wanting to be independant? The life before I were 18 was nicer : I played with my friends and didnt noticed the world was so scaring! I didnt have to work everytime and swear ywhen I had to go to school... good old time!

So why would I grow up over 18?

And now you are able to understand why you are wanting to grow up kids : you wanna be a part of the ps team ! :-D

----------------------------------------------------------------
So really I dont think there is still anything to say about this age limit : really I think it\'s a good thing... not because Im over 18 but simply because I know how I were before thinking I were able to create great website... and even if I were able to create these great website (chat, forum, and so one) I think I werent able to work on a big project like ps or even big website...

there is a difference between knowing how it could be possible to do anything and doing this thing. Just think that if you are too proud to recognize you arent skilled enough to follow the developpers you\'ll takes the times of the real developpers. I mean you work on a part of the project and you do a lot of mistakes then the developpers will have to look for your mistakes and there will be a lot of lost time!

The problem is that you wont work alone but with others developpers... a cooperative work!

So increase your skill and once youll be 18 ask the dev if you will be able to help. I think it\'s the best way!
