Wouldnt it be cool if dungeons could be like .hack. You know, with the chaos portals. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE CHAOS PORTALS, WHICH WOULD BE HORRIBLE. I\'m talking about the way the monsters are. You dont know what you\'re gonna fight until the portal\'s been activated. That is unless you\'ve been there before.

Could you elaborate a bit, for those of us who havn\'t played .Hack?
-
Do you mean the yellow circle that actives whenever you get close to it and monsters come out of it?

Not really, theres no explination of why you can\'t see the monster before you fight it. Random battles always drive me nuts anyways....
-
let me explain. The yellow rotating rings disappear when you get up close and either a monster or a chest appears. (90% chance of monster or something like that). Each dungeon has a different set monsters that can appear. Example: sewers can have rats and gobbles appear. The number that appear however ranges from 1 - 4

All that sounds unnecessary and un-needed

And totally unrealistic as well, I might add. This could be in a single dungeon created by an insane, evil mage, but nowhere else.
-
It was just an idea that I had. Nothing to kill me over. Jeeze, lighten up.
-
I was merely pointing out that isn\'t needed, I\'m not burning you
-
That whole portal crap is ...well... crap. I DO think that there should be dungeons (like D&D), where you get a quest, are told where the entrance to the dungeon is, and you slay tons of monsters, find chest full of goodies, etc. Also, you would only be able to go in once, so someone couldn\'t keep going back in and take all of the loot over and over again.
-
Just a question, have you even played .hack because if you havent, then you probably got the wrong picture
-
no, but i saw the screen shot. I like the fact that you can see an enemy before you walk up to it.
-
than you dont know what I mean. Only people who watched and/or played the games know what Im talking about. That merely was a referel. Can any players of the games help me explain?

What you need explaining in?
-
you liek the randomness of the encounters rather. With teh yellow things you never no what your going to get. However, realisticly, you can generally see what your coming on to, s perhaps if spawns were triggered randomly, that would be better

Well btw What is .Hack?

.Hack is an rpg for PS2, Like any rpg you need fight gain levels, beat bosses, and follow the plot. The good thing about .Hack is it has 5 or 6 games out that continoue the plot. ^.^

go here http://www.dothack.com
By the way:
Portals
Glowing multi-ringed objects which, when approached, reveal either monsters or chests containing items. A portal is the primary way players find challenges to gain experience. Portals can be found in fields and dungeons.

i think i am starting to understand how it works.
with the dothack style monster system that would prevent a ton of problems with monsters falling through the map because the monsters will spawn and chase... and anyways the monster spawns need to have a randomizer ( between a few different types that are predefined) to make you not know what\'s goin to spawn... i think that vengeance was working on a scripting system that is a ton better... it might be a good idea to place hooks for that system into the scripting system.... a good binary plugin sample would be the system used for xchat... http://www.xchat.org

thats part of it but not really what I was going for
