i got this off fable but changed it a bit tell me what you think
each player starts with a block of land when they have the money they could build a house/inn/pub/store and the A.I will go there (inn sleep, pub drink or store buy) so then the player has a small income but it would cost him to repair it if any damage comes to it from some \"unfriendly customers\".
-
I like it, sign me up
-
It\'s really a little too simplistic to be full-fledged idea yet. And besides, there have to be at least a dozen topics on this subject already.
-
A block of land per player? Howabout no, sorry but in my opinion it should be quite hard to get some land n then construct a building, we all talked about this stuff not so long ago, look em up
-
ok just gicing a idea mainly about being able to own a inn or something like that
-
Yeah but don\'t you think we have to work to earn that land? We don\'t want every cocky noob comin in making their own inn saying things like \"my inn is so gonna kick ass\"
Not that I have anything against noobs, it would just be stupid seeing a thousands inns or whatever in the main city
-
It would be annoying if EVERYONE got a house to begin with.. it should be dear.. really dear..
-
However it would be nice if the player did not start empty handed. I think items you start with should be determined by your bio. However that WILL probably come in when the game is in the tweaking stage....some 2 years from now ;)
-
Kaseijin, don\'t say things like that, I don\'t like thinking about how long this game is gonna take...it makes me depressed :(
-
I agree with Kaseijin though in a way. I mean, you do start out with a history you made, so unless if everyone just washed ashore are walked to Hydlaa with nothing, you would kind of expect them to have at least a couple of items on hand to start.
That\'s my opinion anyway.

maybe you\'d have to buy expensive stuff like bricks and other things to build the building....or maybe we could have a builder profession??

last time I checked there was a builder profession, of course that might have been changed - couldn\'t find it in the player guide :S

Actually I think only guilds or other organisations should be able to build anything aside from normal housing facilities. Players can make themselves a house if they could buy a patch of land.
There should probably be different quality houses like for example wooden shacks, something everyone who doesn\'t have two left hands (read one or two crafting or housebuilding skills) could put up. Then there are clay houses, which require a bit more skill and resources to build, a variety of stone, brick, marble, ... houses each increasing in resource cost and skill so that normal players have to hire a builder to have their houses made.
One could also include architects in this but I wouldn\'t use those for the normal houses, only for the more advanced buildings like guild halls, castles, stores, taverns, ... Those buildings would require a blueprint to be drawn out before builders can start creating them.
This along with only groups being able to create special buildings will reduce the ammount of those type of buildings. Aside from that I think that people should also be able to sell their houses or buildings if they want. This will create real estate jobs and make sure not everyone just starts building their own house but that unused houses circulate. That will help save the server quite some space and work.
-
There are loads of unoccupied buildings in the 2 cities already, I bet we shall just be issued houses, or that we can only rent them out, the builder job will probably be reserved only for guilds needing headquarters or something.
-
i think that it should go by bio to,
like if you say you have like some security issue \"a fake thing that\'s not on the menu\" and used to be in a gang (another fake thing) then you could start with a clob or a knife
or if you were religious you could start with a sighn (not a cross but the sign of laanx or something)

Keep in mind that different areas will probably have different architectural styles and resources to work with. Take Ojaveda for example. It is classically Middle-Eastern in appearance with adobe/stucco facades painted with dyes and whitewash (or whatever you would call it).
Imagine if players were given a choice to build a home in any given city, only the have the style of their finished structure clash with the setting of the rest of the town (picture a Tudor-style home in Ovajeda and you\'ll get what I mean). I think it would have to be the sort of thing where you could select a \"level one house,\" \"level two house,\" etc. Depending on the town or area the player chooses, it would automatically match the architectual style. Essentially the player would select the location and color scheme.
So as not to stifle creativity or the need for a player to be individual, you would paint the exterior of your home and acquire furnishings for the interior. */me imagines a Christopher Lowell skill* Fabulous! A rug from Ovajeda, some paintings from Hydlaa, maybe a small stone sculpture from Kran Village...I digress.
I agree that only guilds should be able to own a business. Sole proprietorships weren\'t too big in ye olden days, and given Yliakum\'s crazy economy I don\'t think flooding the market with Inns and Taverns would be such a great idea.
Just my thoughts on it. I think this game is years away from player-owned housing, though.

edit: I made no sense. Stupid end of semester frying my brain...
