I would like the story to expand as spontaneus as possible. So I wont post any information for now. Futhermore I ask you to keep the posts in order.
[EDIT]Please do OOC Discussion in the SIGN UP Thread.]
Cyl entered Kada\'s. It was a rainy day, and furthermore he heard that someone is hiring people for an expedition and decided to have a look. As he went through the door he first spotted the usual patrons and then someone who was foreign, most likely the person who he heard of.
\"So you are the person, who hires mercenaries, I heard of?\", he mumbled as he sat down at that table.
\"So you are someone who wants to earn a little mone?\", the foreigner cooked an brow as he examined Cyl, \"You dont look like those I usually hire, but on the other hand, it cant do any harm. The journey is going to a place far behind the bronze doors, I have heard that somewhere out there you can see the \'cave\' in which this \'stalactite\' hangs.\", it was clear that the foreigner did strongly doubt that, but on the other hand wanted to know if this was true or not. \"20 Circles, after getting back.\"
twenty circles, this was truly an offer Cyl wasnt able to deny.
-
[ooc]Is there any particular direction you want to go with this? Also, mind if I give a face to our \'mystery man\'?
Arnigus sat at the table, brooding over his slowly warming ale that he had yet to touch. Not even the large tray of small harlberry pastries next to the ale could interest him. It was the first time in his life he could remember not being hungry, and that meant a lot for a man who was nearly half as wide as he was tall. He had always enjoyed eating, but today, the very thought of food sickened him. His money lending guild had collapsed, turning all its members to paupers in a matter of hours. He was ruined. Some of his closest friends had already thrown themselves off the tower. He would have followed, if he hadn\'t tired out halfway up...no, that wasn\'t it, and he knew it. He could have made it to the top. He could have made the even quicker trip to the bottom. He could have...if he wasn\'t such a sniveling coward.
That was the story of his life. He never measured up to his father, who was a great leader. His mother was a kind teacher, and though he had inherited her intelligence, he had come up short on her bravery. He had missed out on the love of his life because he had been afraid to ask her for her hand. And now, forty, balding, overweight, beggared, and jobless, he was to afraid even to let it all end. His head sank to the table. He was worthless.
Voices drifted over from the next table, barely rousting Arnigus\'s interest. That is until he heard something towards the end. His head picked back up. Did he hear that right? Twenty circles? He turned his head just enough to see two men sitting at the next table. One was a taller than usual elf, the other, a hefty dwarf dressed in odd armor and clothing, from one of the lower levels he supposed, or perhaps from one of the clans living deep in the Stone Labyrinths.
Having a perfect memory, Arnigus thought back to what they had just been talking about. An expedition into the Labyrinth...into the dark. He sighed. Not what he had been hoping for. It was no use, he may as well go back to the tower and...something sparked inside him. A hard core at the center of his soul that refused to give in. It wasn\'t what he hoped for, but maybe it was what he needed. A last chance to show his worth...and if not that, then the same end as the tower. He tuned to the dwarf.
\"Count me in, Good Dwarf. Before you discount me, hear me out. I may not be good with a sword or magic, but I am a master with a quill and ledger. You will need someone to organize your venture. I have heard of many groups failing because they lacked this, just charging in with hats in the wind. Let me accompany you, and I will do my best to see you there and back with full bellies and well laid supplies,\" Arnigus stated in his best speaking voice, learned from his father ages gone. His run of bad luck would end now, one way or another.
[ooc]Sorry, seems I can\'t write anything short. Not what you where expecting from good old Arnigus, now was it?
-
Cyl stands up, a smile on his face,
\"Arnigus, you dared to come out under your bed? Well probably you found out what dangerous weapons your feet are. But at least you will do the writing. I dunno if dwarves can write anything other than \'ore\' and \'stonebreaker rule\'.\"
All of the sudden the dwarf rammed the hilt of his axe into Cyl\'s foot, who moaned in pain.
\"We probably dont need to write more than \'ore\', because you hugelings wont be able to READ it!\"
Cyl hobbled back a step, \"Not that we cant read, but calling your scratchings a handwriting ...\", he said but as the dwarf threatened to hit his leg with the hilt again, he did stop talking.
\"So where and when are you gonna get going, dwarfling?\", he said to the dwarf.
\"tommorow, directly from the Plaza.\"
-
*Phinehas has been sitting in a corner of the tavern for the last four hours, sipping wine and contemplating. He hears Cyl\'s moans as the dwarf slams his axe into Cyl\'s foot. Angered at this abuse of a friend of his, and knowing that the use of weapons within the tavern is illegal, he decides to see what\'s going on.
He grips the table as he stands up slowly. Leaning heavily on his cane, he limps over to where Cyl is standing with the two strangers.*
Need a hand, Cyl? I seem to have heard someone using their weapon here.
-
\"Half so wild, friend.\"
Cyl attempted to pound his hand on his friend\'s shoulder, but then stopped midair, knowing that Phinehas doesn\'t likes to be touched.
\"Well, you know that dwarf\'s planning to travel into the stone labyrinths. Furthermore he is paying.\"
Looks down on his leg,
\"Well, you know Phinehas I can be a bit cheeky from time to time, and those dwarflings are a bit, heated.\"
Turns towards the dwarf.
\"I dont want to sound like the guard, but you shouldn\'t carry a weapon in here.\"
He paused for a moment and turned back to Phinehas,
\"By the way, haven\'t you been to the stone labyrinth too, Phinehas. The last time I was in there I wasn\'t really clear in the head, so I can\'t really remember.\"
Suddenly the dwarf popped out from behind the table.
\"YOU have been to the labyrinth?\"
-
*Phinehas winces as he sees Cyl\'s hand heading for his shoulder, but sighs with relief as Cyl thinks better. He then looks the dwarf over carefully before answering.*
Yes, I\'ve been to the Stone Labyrinths before. I have not traversed them widely, as I was heading for a specific goal, but yes, I have been in them.
-
\"Eh, ...? So you seem to have guts. Would you mind comin\' along? My ma...\", he suddenly stops talking \"i would even pay you 4 circles.\"
The dwarf muttered to Phinehas, trying not to have the others hear it. Cyl however heard that the dwarf offered 4 circles to Phinehas.
\"So the prices did change since I have talked to you?\", Cyl cooked an eybrow.
\"Erm, no but look this guy HAS the guts.\", the dwarf said cheekily
-
*Phinehas frowned at the dwarf.*
I\'ll have you know that Cyl here is a friend of mine, and I don\'t take insults to my friends lightly.
I would love to come along, but I fear my days of adventuring are past. I am not capable of extended travel, and I fear I would only slow you down.
*Phinehas sighs as he looks down at his robes, knowing the body beneath them. After thinking for a second he looks back up at the dwarf.*
Besides, what could be so important that you\'re willing to risk your life, and have others risk theirs by going into the Labyrinths?
-
\"What the heck? Well my mast, ...\", he paused for a moment \"I have my reasons. Well it\'s a pity, though, wait a moment,\", he scribbled out a small piece of paper, seemingly a list. \"Well, you could travel between the equipment on a wagon, but that will only work until we reach the labyrinth.\"
The dwarf made a pause, thinking.
Cyl turned towards Phinehas and whispered to him, \"Somwhat by this dwarf disturbes me. He doesn\'t look like a scientist, or a mage, rather like a cheap mercenary or myrmidon. Well, you know I have other reasons to go to the labyrinth than just money. When I first came to Yliakum, I was in a stadium of psychical disruption, and I wouldn\'t mind to know if the nexus through which I was teleported here, was a one way path, or a door.\"
The dwarf popped between them, \"Hmm, you after reaching the bronze doors you could ride one of the Dragonlizards we use for pulling the wagon.\"
-
Arnigus turns pale at the mention of the creature. Maybe it would be better if he just went home to...what? Wait till they took his home away? No, that simply wouldn\'t do. He was in for good now.
He glanced at the other two, measuring them. Quite a picture they would make. A too tall elf, a too frail lemur, and a too fat ylian. But he knew from rumors that the other two could handle themselves more than well in bad times. As for himself, he had other ways to protect himself, such as putting others in front of him. Come to think about it, he knew two or three guards an ruffians from his dead guild that owed him a favor or two, and could stand being around him.
\"I can supply a few loyal guards, if you\'re interested.\" Well, somewhat loyal, but they didn\'t need to know that.
The dwarf nodded, eyeing Arnigus with a small smirk. \"That\'id be fine by me...if they\'re good.\"
\"That they are, some of the best.\" When they weren\'t drinking, that is. Something else they didn\'t need to know.
Arnigus felt his appitite return suddenly and grabbed a few of the harlberry sweets, popping them in his mouth. Maybe today wasn\'t such a bad day after all...as long as they didn\'t try to get him on the back of one of those beasts.
---added---
At that moment, the tavern door burst open, a large ynnwn (they are all large) falling backwards though it to land heavily on the floor. He sat up and looked around, slightly dazed. Another ywann poked his head in the doorway, grinning widely. His appearance was identical to the man on the floor, right down to the great assortment of knives harnessed to thier chests and waists. The standing man looked down the other and rubbed his forhead.
\"Yur right Roth, ma head is thicker,\" he said, with a laugh.
\"Ah said you had a thick head, Ah din\'t tell you to test it. You owe me a drink, Toth,\" Roth said, shaking his head to clear his vision.
\"What fer?\" Toth asked, rasing an eyebrow, \"You ne\'er owed up fer that chamber pot thing.\"
\"How\'as I sposed to know it id catch fire? Yur the one who stomped the thing. Ah says this makes it even. Now git up so as I can buy you a drink.\"
\"You just said...\"
\"Ah said Ah don\'t owe you, Ah ne\'er said Ah wouldn\'t buy yur drink. This is a tavern, afta all.\"
Arnigus shook his head. So much for a good first impression. What brought his former guards here anyways? Maybe the tower wasn\'t so tall after all.
-
*Phinehas was about to answer the guard, when the Ylians came in. He looked them over, but they seemed fairly harmless, so he turned back to the dwarf.*
If I ride this beast, I assume we\'ll still only be moving at a walking pace for the rest of you?
*The dwarf nodded, looking up at him through his bushy eyebrows.*
Well, in that case, I accept.
*Phinehas gave the dwarf a brief smile and turned to Cyl. Motioning for him to lean forward, Phinehas quickly whispered into his ear.*
Of course this isn\'t all it appears. Why else do you think I\'m coming?
-
Cyl nodded slighty. He was quite pleased to have phinehas with the group after all. But all worries were gone as those Ynnwn stumbled into the tavern. He laughed heartly, seeing the faces of them in suprise as they saw Cyl, an elf being as tall as an Ynnwn.
\"My, my. THAT is what I call enter with a bang.\"
He turned towards Arnigus.
\"You said something about loyal guards?\"
-
Tybalt stood by the bar, a glass of milk in his hand, pretending not to hear what the others were talking about. However, he found the idea of venturing into the stone labyrinths to be very interesting and was about to turn around to go join the group when he heard what seemed to be two idiots entering the tavern. He quickly cancelled his plan to turn around and sighed.
\"If those are coming I think I rather stay here\", he murmured to himself and took another sip on his milk.
-
Cyl mentioned his friend Tybalt at the next table. He moved towards him and poundered his hand on his shoulder.
\"greets, Tybalt. How do you do?\"
Cyl looked down into the Tybalt\'s glass seeing the milk.
\"as it seems you are quite well.\"
-
Arnigus put his hand over his face, the other he raised towards the two red ynnwns apologetically.
\"Those would be two of the guards I was talking about, Cyl. They arn\'t very bright, but they are good in a fight.\"
Roth got up, still shaking his head, and spotted Arnigus. A large grin crossed his face.
\"Arnigus! What er you do\'in here? Shouldn\'t you be at the Guild?\" he asked, then looked confused and concerned. He leaned over to Toth and whispered loud enough for the entire room to hear, \"Were we sposed ta be on duty today?\"
Toth\'s eyes grew big with startlement. He glanced at Arnigus with worry.
\"I duno. You uz sposed to keep track this week, Roth. Arn? We aren?t on duty today, are we?\"
Arnigus shook his head. \"No, the Guild collapsed. No one is working today, or tomorrow.\"
Toth heaved a great sigh of relief. \"Oh thank Talad. I thought we was fired fa sure this time.\"
Roth grinned and nodded in agreement, but suddenly his face dropped. He reached over and smacked the other on the back of his head. \"Toth, you nit. We is fired. The Guild is gone.\"
Toth\'s face dropped identically. \"What will we do now Brother? Arnigus, good friend, you got a plan, right? You all\'ays got a plan.\"
\"No, Roth...er...Toth. But these fellows may have need of you. Go find Hadarican and bring him here.\" The twins looked at him with equal befuddlement. \"You\'re fellow guardsman...Had, the Kran...the poet?\" Their looks remained the same. \"The one who uses a lot of words you don\'t know.\"
Understanding seemed to dawn on them. \"You mean Ink-spot?\" they asked together.
\"Yes, now go.\"
The two turned immediately and tried to pass through the door at the same time, succeeding in crashing into the doorframe. After a short period of head smacking, they finally made it into the street. Arnigus shook his head again.
\"They really are good fighters. And Had is ten times better, and a hundred times smarter. You can trust them.\" At least, he was sure those three had not been the ones who betrayed the Guild. Had was too loyal, and the twins...well...they weren\'t all there.
-
\"Eh, well I wont say anything for now.\", Cyl muttered
Throughout his live he has seen many fighters, but those. They seemed for him like seperot on his best days, only that seperot was smarter, much smarter.
\"Well, ya really think that they are good?\", the dwarf asked.
It was sure that he had his doubts.
-
Arnigus blows out his long moustaches in indignation.
\"Of course they are good! I would have none other stand between myself and danger.\"
[ooc] Sorry for ignoring you, but I\'m updating \"The Book of Yliakum right now.
-
*Phinehas stares at the antics of the two guards and shakes his head in disgust.*
You idiots are all going to die.
*After a few moments of thought he walks over to Tybalt. Knowing that Tybalt would know it was him who was approaching by his limp, he just started talking quietly.*
What do you say, Tybalt? I need someone I actually trust to look after me on this trip. Arnigus and his guard friends look incompetent at best, and that dwarf leaves a lot to be desired as far as inspiring confidence. Cyl\'s alright, but still, he doesn\'t have your experience. What do you say?
-
Arnigus puts down his copy of The PS Times after reading a few articles. It did indeed, seem like a good time to be going on a quest. What with all the frightening occurances happening. He finishes the tray of sweets and downs his drink, then stands up slowly.
\"Well, my friends, I must be going now, if I am to gather all the supplies we will need on the morrow.\"
The shady dwarf tosses him a small purse. \"I reckon ya\'ll be need\'in this. Don\'t make me come after you,\" he ends threateningly.
Arnigus catches the purse with bumbling fingers, then graps it to his chest, his face turning white at the threat.
\"N..n.n.no. You won\'t have to.\" With that, Arnigus rushes out of the tavern as fast as his waddle can take him.
-
Cyl could hear Phinehas talking to Tybalt about him, but he decided it was better not to ineterferre, and rather show his worth in the events which were up to happen.
He looks towards the two drunken guards.
\"Oh dear, oh dear.\"
-
*Tybalt smiled to himself when he heard Phinehas slowly walk over to him. He had expected this to happen and turned around to face his friend.
Hmm, I have heard stories about that Arnigus being a good runner. Even though I do not doubt that you can take care of yourselves, I would not want you and Cyl to be left alone while the others are running. Who knows if the two idiots really can fight...
*Tybalt drinks up what is left of his milk and then carefully puts his arm around his friend\'s neck not to injure him
Besides, this could also be a good opportunity to see what Cyl can do.
-
*Phinehas smiles at Tybalt\'s words, pleased that he\'ll have someone he trusts along.*
That\'s great, Tybalt! You\'re right about Cyl, too. This will be a good test for him, and even if he doesn\'t do so well, we\'re around to keep him out of trouble.
*Phinehas turns to the dwarf and motions to Tybalt.*
He\'s coming with us.
-
The dwarf smiles
\"another friend of yours?\"
He nods towards Phinehas,
\"Hmm, I hope that this arnigus guy wont make me come after him.\"
-
A Kran saunters stately into the tavern. He carries a thick, simple, ironclad quarterstaff, which he is using as a walking staff. Oddly, there appears to be a large ink stain on his cheek.
\"A fine day to you all, good gentlemen, I would be Haddiarican. Would any of have come across an unmistakably sizable ylian? Arnigus by name? I was told by a rather unpleasant set of twins that he would be?.Frent!? The Kran exclaims as his eyes fall on the dwarf, his look turning dark, ?What manner of ill wind beseeched you to creep from beneath the foul stone of your vile existence??
He takes a threatening step towards the dwarf he named as Frent. His knuckles crack at the firm grip he gives his staff.
-
Leiraine rushed through the doors looking uncharacteristically tattered and overly excited. \"Oh Cyl!\", she beamed across the room at him, \"thought I\'d find you here\". Running up to him, she stopped short of flanging her arms around his neck. \"Um.. thank you, Cyl\", she bowed lightly, \"I owe you one!\"
Seeming to notice for the first time that there were other people in the tavern, she smiled to Phinehas and Tybalt, the only oter people she recognised, \"Hello, my good sirs. What a great day it is. How are you?\"
-
Cyl was quite confused as Leiraine stumbled in.
\"Sorry, have you been drinking today?\", he said,\"Anyways, I wonder where laith is, usually she shows up with you.\"
Then he turned to the Kran,
\"Indeed I have seen Arnigus, you just missed him for a matter of minutes. And I have to inform you that you should pack your weapons away, we are in a tavern not in the arena.\"
Cyl reached out for his hip flask and took a nip.
-
Had nodded to the tall elf, Cyl, as the stunning young Xacha woman had called him. He then glanced at the Xacha woman herself.
\"For the sake of the lady, I will restrain my unworthy self from the violence this shade of a Dwarf bequeathed upon his loathsome person,\" he said in an apologetic tone and leaned his staff against the wall. \"Weapons are not my answer to action where simple words will suffice...\" His gaze goes back to the Dwarf. \"...in most cases.\"
Had bowed slightly to the men in the room, recognizing some of them by description and reputation, though he never met them personally, then bowed more deeply to the Xacha woman, flourishing a hand.
\"Prey tell me the name that accompanies such an exquisite face, so that I may whisper it on the winds of eternity.\"
He noticed the odd looks some of the others gave him.
\"Just because I am Kran does not make me immune to the beauty of the world,\" he closed his eyes and nodded his head to the woman, \"In whatever form it may take.\"
-
Cyl was quite baffled to hear words of poesy from a kran.
He dripped his fingers on the table and took another nip of his hip flask.
-
Not at all discouraged by Cyl\'s comment, Lei grinned even more cheerfully. \"No Cyl, but have you been taking cheerfulness lessons from Phinehas? I haven\'t seen Laith today, though.\"
Turning to the Kran, Leiraine made a light curtsey, \"You are flattering me, dear Lord. Name is Leiraine, though Lei is what most call me\". From her Dermorian mother she inherited only the height, and therefore looked extraordinarily small and fragile compared to the Kran.
\"Now, what do you have against Master Dwarf here?\", she asked the Kran warmly, her concentration revealed for a fleeting moment by several wrinkles across her forehead.
\"He is taking me for someone else!\", the Dwarf said with an emphasis, glaring at the Kran. They seemed to have a staring competition. Backing away, Leiraine bumped into Cyl, \"Oh.. gah.. sorry! Would you please enlighten me about what\'s happenning here?\", she whispered to him making the foxy \'you-can\'t-say-no-to-me\" face.
-
\"This vile filth of a Dwarf took an expedition into the caves some years back -one that never returned-. My closest friend was one of those lost to the breezes of ill destiny. He claimed to have the wish to travel to a hidden cavern deep in the bowels of the world.\" Had leaned forward, his great height menacing. \"I never forget a face, Frent. Nor do I forget a deed against my kin\"
He shook his head, trying to ward off the thoughts of violence. There was, after all, a lady present.
\"Forgive my ill tempered words.\"
-
\"Well, you know Phinehas is a good teacher. Anyways actually this dwarf was hiring mercenaries for an expedition.\", he looked at the Kran, \"You really made me concern, but on the other hand I have some personal buisness to perform in the stone labyrinths anyways.\"
He let the hip flask slide back into his pocket. He then saw that his backup hip flask was away.
\"Lei, you didnt take my hip flask, when you bumped into me, did you?\"
-
Had glared at the dwarf, flexing his massive arms. \"A journey through the Bronze Doors, into dark unknown, I suppose,\' he said to Cyl, without taking his eyes from Frent. \"To cavern lost, and riches many... That is the same tale he used on the last occurance. To lure those to their demise...\"
\"They\'re not dea...\" Frent started, but changed mid-word, fear touching his eyes for a fleeting moment, \"I mean, you confuse my intention, Kran. I never passed into the caves with those before. I feel poorly that they never returned, but that be none of my doing. I was only hired to spread the word, not to travel with them.\"
Had walked over to the table, his huge hands pressed to the wood, making the boards creek. \"Know this, Frent, you will be coming this time...as will I. Arnigus will just have to find another guard for a time.\"
(note: Had does not yet know that his guild has collapsed. The Twins forgot to tell him. Maybe someone could do the honor?)
-
\"He wont need any guard, his money lending guild collapsed. Anyways, riches are not in my interest, nor are caverns, I have my reasons and I dont like if anyone messes around with them.\", he stood upright and looked face to face with the kran, \"And if you dont want to make me furious dont judge my intentions.\"
-
Had stepped bach, shock clearly painting his face. The Guild...gone? How could this be?
\"I am sorry good sirs, good lady, I must go find Arnigus before he does something...rash. I will be seeing you again, Frent, before our journey departs.\"
With that, he rushed through the door, grabbing his staff on the way out. No one had the time to tell him that Arnigus would be going with them on the morrow.
-
\"Cyl, are you actually accusing me of stealing? You should be ashamed of yourself. You probably lost it somewhere\", the Xacha walked away from him, shaking her head indignantly.
\"Eh girl, very amusing, very amusing\", Frent clapped several times, slowly and loudly - a mocking kind of applause. \"I must congratulate you, I don\'t know how you\'ve done it. All I saw was flask there one moment, and gone the next.\" Leiraine glared at the dwarf, her nostrills flaring slghtly, and her fists clenched tightly. Eyeing her lazily, Frent continued in a cheerful voice, \"Did I say something wrong? On, I\'m sorry, I guess you didn\'t want anyone to know. Now, that\'s not a pretty face at all.\"
Leiraine\'s swinged her hand to slap the Dwarf, but he caught her arm in mid air, just when it was about to reach his cheek. \"Why? I was only complimenting your skills, lady\", he sneered, \"in fact, I was about to invite you to the party, and with good money, too! And you are trying to hit me? Where are your manners? Not that I care. Two circles, miss (and plenty more with your skills, I should add).\"
\"Never!\"
\"All right, ten circles.\"
\"You can\'t buy me, you dirty...\"
\"Twenty\" The dwarf looked amused and studied Leiraine\'s frozen expression carefully. Finally, she nodded weakly. Money like that could not be refused. \"That\'s a good girl. So its settled\", Frent might not have been pleased with promising so much money, but he looked very much satisfied, \"I always knew women can be bought\".
\"I always knew men can be tricked\", Leiraine looked triumphant. She opened her fist to reveal a small glyph, and Cyl\'s flask reappeared where it was in the beginning. \"I simply used Azure spell to make it seem like the flask disappeared. I would have gone on your journey anyway, but good money never hurts, now does it?\", she winked at Frent.
-
\"On the one hand I have to admit that your trick worked. You are just lucky that you haven\'t hexed me, it would have caused a disaster. So just for the future, let it be.\"
Cyl was not about to give in.
\"You really think that you are superior?\"
-
A clap was heard from the direction of the door and Laith could be seen standing in its frame.
\"Well well, Lei. Sneaky as always. Though you did scare me there for a second,\" chuckled Laith as she made her way to her friend.
\"It surely does feel like I\'ve missed quite a bit here,\" she said, looking blankly at a dwarf. She also wondered who was that kran who almost ran over her as he hurried out the door.
Turning around, she gave a nod to Cyl, Phinehas and Tybalt, wondering what happened here.
-
\"I\'ll give in. You are superior. But please let it be in future.\", he mumbled towards Lei.
\"If I\'m right you promised Lei ten circles. It is getting wierd, you only promised me about two.\"
\"She is talented. You are just a piece of crap, I wonder if you would be able to guard the encampement.\", the dwarf mumbled out of his beard.
\"So you mean I am worthless? You mean I am a piece of crap?\", his figure getting taller as he moved towards the dwarf.
\"Ge.. Get away.\", the dwarf stuttered.
Cyl took a step backwards. Then he caught sight of Laith.
\"Ah hello. You did miss quite a bit. This dwarf seems to hire people for an expedition into the stone labyrinths. Finally a opportunity for me to earn some money.\"
\"Where the heck...\", the dwarf muttered
Cyl opened a small pouch, then turnt towards the dwarf the pouch holding in front of him.
\"Frent, ... I should have known. If I wouldnt need the money I would keep here. What happened to Sergei?\"
-
Phinehas chuckled at Leiraine\'s little trick. Highly amusing, and quite a useful thing to know. Hopefully, though, she knew better than to try it on a mage. Fooling Cyl and that idiot of a dwarf meant absolutely nothing. He yawned and was about to take a seat again when he changed his mind and motioned to Leiraine to join him.
-
\"Cyl\", there was an undertone of exasperation, and \'i thought you knew me better than that\' look in Leiraine\'s eyes, \"I was gonna share it anyways. I couldn\'t watch everyone getting ripped off, now could I?\" She gave him an apologetic smile, \"Sorry for putting you in the middle of this.\"
\"Phinehas\", she nodded coming over to the Lemur. The briskness of her walk and the glint in her eyes clearly showed that Leiraine was very pleased with herself. Indeed, she rarely got to use any magic outside of lessons, and at that moment felt liek a kid who got away with a prank. \"How are you? Are you also going on this journey?\"
-
\"To be honest. I feel like a child standing before the window of an toy\'s shop, everytime I see an other way than the blue being used.\"
He turnt to the dwarf.
\"I will go. But I will watch out for you, and Sergei. Your creepy little master will not fool me again. And you will never get the edge.\"
The dwarf turnt pale
\"Good, I am convinced you will get eight circles. Sergei\'s changed, he does not want the edge anymore. He seeks something other. Lying in the ruins, of equal use as the edge.\"
He turnt back to Lei
\"You dont have to share with me as it seems. But thanks, anyways\"
He streched out his finger, and a thin string of water connecting his hand with some strange curve in Lei\'s clothing. The curve vanquished and the cloth around turnt a little wet.
\"Hmm, you should hide your daggers better, it seems that it turnt fluid?\"
A childish smile appeared on his face.
-
\"Yes, I\'m going.\" Phinehas paused for a second as Cyl brought attention to his talent with magic. He shook his head, muttering something about why he should even bother with these children. Then he turned back to Leiraine.
\"I was just going to say that you should be a little more careful of your power output. It was a cute trick, I admit, but by far too detectable. Cyl is young and not very learned in the ways of magic, so fooling him is no feat. Fooling those who have little or no understanding of music is amusing and practical, but nothing to be particularly proud of. You\'re doing a good job in your studies obviously, and I\'m impressed, but keep working on your control. Your spell was easily detectable due to your lack of ability to keep your power honed in on the one object. To me your use of magic had the same subtlety as someone smashing a plate on the floor.\"
Phinehas shrugged, then continued, \"I guess what I\'m trying to say behind all that talk is, your doing good, but keep working at it.\"
Realizing he had finished with what could be considered a complement, he gruffly turned back to the counter muttering, \"Now go bestow your presence on someone who will appreciate it. I\'m busy.\"

Cyl laughed faintly.
\"Well, it seems that you aren\'t totally resistant to tricks, Phinehas.\"
He turned towards the dwarf.
\"Two in advance. For being so cheeky. You should have known better.\"
The dwarf was about to say something against it, but as Cyl held up the small pouch, he just nodded and handed over the money.
\"I really think you should give Lei a bit in advance to.\"
He let the pouch slip back into his pocket.
\"You dirty, ...., okay.\", the dwarf reached out for another two circles and gave them to Lei.
Cyl mumbled, \"He will be pleased, ...\"
-
*Phinehas cocks an eyebrow at Cyl.*
Eh? I wasn\'t fooled. It was rather obvious to anyone with a trained mind. The excess magic was too much to go unnoticed.
-
Cyl laughed quite heartly
\"Haha, sure.\"
Cyl turnt towards the window
\"Bah it\'s getting dark.\"
Without saying anything he just ran up to the balcony and jumped towards the first roof within reach.
-
*Phinehas smiles at Cyl\'s naivety.*
Oh well, he\'ll learn eventually.
*Glancing out the window, he sees that Cyl is right about it getting dark, and heads slowly out.*
-
Cyl came to his favourite side street, he dropped down and layed on a hill of hay
\"Pah, I should have guessed that Phinehas wouldn\'t see how he was tricked by not being tricked.\"
Under the slight tickling of rain he fell fast asleep

by request;
Arnigus looks with pride over the three carts piled high with provisions, each with its own mount hitched at the fore. A good day of dealing had raised his spirits considerably. He even has some good few coins left. Perhaps I should treat the others to a round of drinks...on that foul dwarf. He chuckles at the idea, but knows that he will give all the spare coin back. Sometimes it didn\'t pay to be so honest...especially as a banker, but he knows no other way to go about matters. He sees Hadarican running down the street towards him, worry painting the Kran\'s face. So he must know about the Guild. Had stops, glancing at the full carts.
\"When I heard about the Guild, I thought...I worried...\" the big Kran says.
\"Nothing to worry about Had, my friend. We have a new prospect for now.\" He goes on to explain the job. Had\'s face gets darker and darker.
\"Frent cannot be trusted, Arn. No further than thieving vagrant in jeweler?s storeroom. He took from me once, and I will not have it again. He brings danger on his back and deceit in his pockets.\"
Arnigus laughs, oh it feels so good to laugh again. \"That is why you are coming with, Had. Roth and Toth also. You are the only ones I trust right now. I know this Frent is up to no good, but his pay is worth a little risk.\"
It is Had\'s turn to laugh out loud, grinning widely. \"Risk? Arnigus, whatever has stolen your wits has also shorn up your courage. Perhaps next you shall be taking up the sword to dash forth and do righteous battle on the forces of impending evil like so many others.\"
Arnigus grins. \"Not on your life. I will leave the cleaving and poetry to you. \'Dash forth and do righteous battle\'? Your eloquence astounds me sometimes. One day you will have to tell me what you wrote about the Octarch\'s wife to get you banished from the Third Level.\"
Had shakes his head with a rueful smile. \"That is a story for another time and another place. The chain of evens that led to this poor soul being cast onto a path not of his choosing was, indeed, a cruel turn of fate. But, it has brought me the company of good friends, so I will not complain. Very well, I will accompany you into the dark, and I will accompany you back. That I promise.\"
Arnigus nods. \"If you have promised, then it shall be done. Come, I need to get these carts back to the tavern before they send out a search party. Speaking of which, have you seen Roth and Toth?\"....

This has been a blatant clue warning broadcast by the Emergency Sheeple Broadcast System?er?um?perhaps this should have gone at the beginning of the post. Oh well, can?t change it now. (Arnigus is afraid of Edit buttons.) ;)

As the azure sun got brighter again, Cyl awoke and shook off the dust on his clothes.
\"bah, I really should look for some nicer place to sleep in.\"
With amazing speed he climbed up the wall besides him, reached a roof and started looking around.
\"Hmm, not a crowdy day, ..\"
Then he saw Arnigus and some carts filled with supplies at the tavern. He made his way towards him, and dropped directly behind him.
\"I guess you didnt expect that to happen, ...\"

[Evil? Really? How so? Share with the rest of the class. ;) ]
Arnigus jumps with a squeek like a small girl may make, dropping the ledger he had been ticking off points on. It lands in a puddle from last night\'s drizzle, the ink running in crazy streaks. When he lands again, he spins to the source of his morning\'s misfortune.
\"Cyl you....you...disrespectful tramp! Now I have to start all over.\" he lowers his voice to an angry mumble, \"Sneaking up on unsuspecting people.\"
The tavern door bursts open, followed by a flying Roth, who hits the wet street and slides a few feet on his back. Arnigus shakes his head at the twin?s usual entrance. Roth springs to his feet as Toth comes out the door with a huge grin on his face.
Toth, proudly- \"I told yer I could do it.\"
Roth, angrily- \"Ah said ya coun\'t toss meh thur the winna, not the door, ya durn nit. You owe me en ale.\"
Toth, confrentational- \"You wants meh tur try again? I\'ll toss ya thra the wall nex time. Who\'s the nit now?\"
Roth, angerier- \"Don be usin them fancy words on meh, I\'ll poun you a new face.\"
Toth, confused- \"Fancy? What durs that mean?\"
Roth, confusedier- \"Duno. Ink-spot used it on meh. What was we talkin bout?\"
Toth, slyly - \"You was sayin yer owed meh en ale.\"
Roth raises his hand and begins counting his fingers. He counts twice more, apparently losing track of any number past three. Finally, he gives up and shakes his head. \"I guess yer right, Toth.\" They begin heading back into the tavern.
\"Hold up boys!\" Arnigus says loudly, \"You\'ve had enough breakfast. As soon as the others arrive, we will be leaving.\" And that Cyl will be walking in front of me.
