I Happened upon PS at onrpg browsing their game lists. it was 8 months ago.. or thats what my forum registration says
all the community i used to know is slowly slipping away, and new people coming that i dont know, and will have a long time getting ot know, because im not very active here.
anyway most of the people i remember are
HalfPint
Elscha
DepthBlade
Seperot
Moogie, of course.
FESFES as I still call him, or Efflixi Auduro (spelling?)
Killerv
Garlok, and a few others from in game. countless more that i recognize the names of, but i dont see much any more.
If anyone from that list is still around, maybe leave a word.
How many people here, know I am here? or recognize me? Im just curious, i know I like to read posts rather than make them. im feeling like times rolling by and im sittin here like a rock on the bottom of the river.
I saw depths farewell post, and just read something about seperot being gone, Elscha was a frequent player in MB, havent seen her since. HalfPint not to be found. only one I know here in these forums left is Efflixi. and moogie whom I do not know personally, but see alot of as she is everywhere at once
Im not even hinting at the downfall of the community, It continues to flourish, Im merely remarking upon friends that have come and gone, and those that yet remain. Gee, hope moogie gets to this part before she locks it if she decides to. lotsa \"doomsayers\" about lately

Hey, dumb guy, I am/was KillerV. :P
And, yes, the people I originally knew are slowly fading away like a ripple in a pond... :(
And don\'t worry theres at least one person you know that\'ll always be here! :)
Edit: And don\'t worry Wisekran you\'re one of the few people from the ps community I doubt Ill ever forget.
-
Good to know. see I havent played CB yet. I tried it for a sec, but then someting came up and i had to go, the controls were a bit intimidating, as was the interface. but I see alot of people praising it, MB was fun, not really a playable game. but still was fun. When i muster enough courage, ill take on the task of acquainting myself with CB\'s gameplay, interface, etc.
I should add
Redmonk
and perhaps Phinehas to the list, There was a male enki that always hung out in the temple named phinehas i believe, but im not sure.
I see Phinehas around, but naught of redmonk.
and I ask again. Does anyone consider me someone they know has been around here? and if you do, what are your impressions of myself?
-
*Yawn* I am still here whether I want to be or not, and I wouldn\'t speak to loudly on this subject Moogie has been on an flame/delete/lock of these such topics :)
Yeah good ole FESFES whatever happen to that n00bster, must of finally got the clue and cleaned up his act and buggered off, that n00b! *Yawns and begins to walk away bumping into Efflixi Aduro* Hey FESFES ;)
-
Lets see:
I know that Depth is still here, Moogie is a Dev so she gets out just no as much, FESFES is Efflixi/KillerV...
Don\'t worry to much about people coming and going. I\'ve been here since...whatever it sais in my reg date. (Dec 03 I think) and there have been a ton of people that left. Most just leave the message boards and are still in game on occation. Some, they drift away in boredom or to school/work. Life takes it\'s toll on each person differently.
Think about the people that are here, not the ones that left. That\'s what I do...and rejoice when an inactive becomes active again :)
It will all be alright in the end.
-
Seperot and Half-Pint are gone as far as I know, and I havn\'t seen Elscha around for a while.
I am glad this is not a doomsayer thread. ;)
-
I\'m still here, Wise. Glad to be added to your list. Yes, that Enki in the temple in MB was me.
Redmonk is also around. He reads just about everything that goes on in these forums, but rarely posts. Have no idea why. He\'ll probably post here when he reads this.
Anyways, Wise, you are definitely \"someone I know has been around here\" as you put it. As for impressions... depends what you mean.
-
Didn\'t I have a thread somewhat like this less than a week ago? Apparently, I was flamed and called a newb hater, even though the content of my post contained none of that. Amazing what a thread title can do to people who don\'t actually read the first posts....

That is what happens when a guy plays as a girl :P j/k
Hey Wisekran see this as an opportunity to meet new friends ;) but yeah I actually also wanted to know if the persons i met when I first joined the game still was active - if I could remember them that is :S
-
I have quit PS too.
But who would remember tah madmen -.-
-
I\'m still here.
Edit: Though not in my former glory.

Me :( And I bet a lot of the older-bees remember you from when you where more active too.
I bet a lot of the olbees will come back to PS over the summer because of bordom, heck, I did :P
-
Meh. I\'m still here, just not in game and virtually non-active.
-
:D
Not everyone has vanished. Seems like they are just dorment. lots of posts here from people I thought long gone :)
I just wish I could get HalfPint to come out. He was perhaps the best friend I had here. He contributed much of the short stories for The Rangers Of The Expedition guild, which is now memberless, as everyone in it has moved on, I will ressurect it when i decide to become dedicated to playing PS.
Does anyone Know HalfPint? Is the Mirth guild still in existence, perhaps they know of his fate.
-
hey...I\'m still here! The annoying never up-to-date enki in MB! (now ylian. rests the same) I swear I wount leave...until my late copy of guildwars gets home :P Seriously, I\'m here, always will be, and there are many of the older players still around....Zabeal, Golmir, Efflixi, FESFES, KillerV :P , me, me , me, me , me, Draklar (finaly)
, and that one guy, Robinmagus, The smart handsome one.

Stop saying oldbies my god you sound as if you are praising them for the amount of time they have spent on the internet :P They are people..
-
oldbies.. newbies... bahmistfa o.O
I see them as Friends, companions, players i respect for their dedication to helping the game, or just plain annoying grump two faced.... :D
people come and go, fact of life *watches a bus pass* see?
-
Hey Wisekran ;)
Good to see you are still around hehe
About Mirth guild, I believe they still exist but are not active right now. I think it was Jadd and HalfPint that had to give up their PS time for school time, but they\'ll probably come back someday :)

And by someday he means: \"when summer comes around and the boredome overwhels them.\" :D

Ha! like I would praise somone... ;)
I\'m just reffering to the people that have been around longer, what else do you want me to call them.
-
Well I think they prefer to be called either Fanboys/girls or WTBMs :)
The only difference being that one set thinks the Devs are invulerable Gods capable of no wrong while the others know they are. :D
-
Ive been gone for quite some time as well. Doubt anyone except for ashes members know who i am though as i never was very active :).
Wish there was more time to play cb :(. I am curious how much is changed since the last time i logged in (couple months ago).
-
I\'ll be old someday too ;) In the meantime all hail the oldies.
/me bows
-
There aren\'t oldbies, there are just members, with equal rights like the new ones. The only difference, is that it might be possible that they acquired more knowledge during their stay in here.
Bow to them? Ha ... Bow to no one kiddo, but if you insist, bow only to yourself. ;)
And Aiselyn, forget about those thoughts. You don\'t live to be old someday. Nah, enjoy the life you currently have, time will solve those matters :)
-
If you live in the United states, you are certainly a Democrat.
-
lol just for some reason, I\'ve always found myself \"thrown\" by the oldie/newbie thing. I guess it\'s just a perception thing.
But yeah, you\'re right, time will fix things. Eventually, I\'ll have developed this character down to a fine toothpick, and then be able to do some real roleplaying as well.
Oh (and I just noticed this in this thread), what wrong with a guy playing as a girl Kiramon? ;)
-
well Aiselyn, us guy playing guys always getting surprised after realising it is one prob. ;)
kinda like this:
Guy \"hey beauty\"
Girl \"hey\"
Guy \"need some help from daddy here?\"
Girl \"you know i\'m a guy\"
Guy \"....omg\"
*guy walks off embarrased*
okay perhaps I overreacted a little but hey it could happen :P...
back to topic, well whether a person wants to call others oldbies or newbies is up to them - me? well my opinion is the same as Annah\'s
-
I personally dont understand this oldbie/newbie thing. Call me dumb, but does it really matter if someone is around since january or since the old MUD days if both have the same knowledge and equal RP. IMO you just can seperate the community in two halves, those who RP and those who dont (even if they theoretically should not exist)
-

*blinks* Woah... thats news to me. Life really does get in the way of things doesn\'t it. Or perhaps Planeshift gets in the way of life. I can\'t really decide. In any case, I am still here. Life hasn\'t pulled me away completely yet. But I certainly haven\'t been as active as I used to be.
Cyl, I agree.
If you live in the United states, you are certainly a Democrat.
I\'m not.
-
lol Kiramon, I do know what you mean. I\'m a little paranoid of that myself and I\'m the other way around in the game :P
BTW, I live in Canada, though if I was in the states I\'d probably be a democrat at this point (not that I really care :P).
Also (to stay on topic), I like Cyl take on things actually (along with Annah of course ;)).
-
hmm well still a core of players still here but I agree many are leaving aswell. Not always the ones I expected to leave either. It seems like the ones complaining are sometimes the ones most loyal to the game. Go figure ;)
Anyhow I\'m new in the fact I only looked around MB a few times and only started the minute CB was released. (Friends in RL ;) ) but seen many leave and the game change, but many stay and many try to make the best of a not ideal situation.

I am glad this is not a doomsayer thread. ;)
\"Repent heretics! Away from the Computer, the tool of the devil! Burn \'em, burn \'em all! One is the chief amongst \"games\" as they call \'em! PlaneShift, the soulstripper! The end is comming! Repent!!!!\"
Now it IS a doomsayer thread...Well, not what you expected eh? :P And who\'s gone...no one\'s gone...:D We all just inactive...:P
-
I\'d have to say that in reality the only way the oldbies are \"better\" is because they already understand what works, and what\'s necessary, for RP, guild-making, etc. etc. etc. So yes, it\'s basically amassed knowledge, technically if a \"newbie\" could come into the game with all this, then they wouldn\'t be any worse than the \"oldbies\". I have yet to see this happen, though. There are smart newbies, but none who understand PS as thoroughly as the oldbies.
At the same time, I realize that there is such a thing as a stupid oldbie. Those are people who are totally clueless even though they\'ve been around forever and/or think they\'re awesome just because they\'ve been around(off and on) for years. Often they don\'t actually know squat. Arrogance is one of the products of this.
Personally, I think people who understand PS deserve the respect, not people who\'ve been around for a long time, often though, those are the same people.

The game I primarily played before this game, Subspace/Continuum, was horrible for that. Many of the so called \'oldbies\' were extremely arrogant, and actually got even more arrogant as time passed. Not all of them, but a good majority of them.
Because of this, I found that game to be fun if you were playing in the \'not so skilled\' squads than in the \'elite\' squads, just because the players were more down to earth and not stuck up their you know whats. ;) Eventually, after developing my skills, I was actually able to help bring up a couple of the squads I was on up a few ranks, which was kind of nice.
Anyway, before I go way too off topic, I am quite proud of the Planeshift community for not being so ...arrogant. :) I hope this stays, even with the possible threat of powerlevelers.

Yes I read the whole thread...but I had to make the point...again...:D

why are we bickering over who is and isnt an oldby. and what defines them?
-
It\'s a common argument over semantics. We\'re arguing because we feel like arguing or else because we feel like advancing our opinions on the matter.
Gernerally, an oldbie is considered to be a person who has spent a considerable amount of active time within a community. Oldbies can lose their status through inactivity, as is currently happening to me. The other defining element is fame.

I have one point to make here...how can we be arguing when we\'re all agreeing with each other?

I was wondering the same.
-
It\'s in nature of the human race to want to be aknowledged and that others have the same opinion as you.
-
So all that needs to be said has been, or should we carry out further repeating our arguements to why each is right?

OK ok let\'s end this. We are all equal. The end.
*CLOSED* (I wish I could)
-
I am your God... so nothing else matters. Bow down and worship me :P

yep. well this thread went farther than i figured. and its outlived its worth. i guess we should all stop posting here then..
yep.. well

*pulls out a megaphone, which makes some disturbing sounds as he puts it to his mouth
We are NOT equal! This is NOT a perfect world!
*throws the megaphone, hitting somebody in the head and smiles as he notices that he\'s gotten everybody\'s attention
Remember when you enter a game for the first time and find yourself wearing equipment that is so shitty that you almost begin to wonder if it protects you or actually makes you lose health.
Then you see a guy walk around (that\'s right! real olbies never run), wearing a giant dragon armor +7 vs Newbs, and even though you know that attacking him could only result in you dying together with what little coolness you had, you challenge him over and over again.
So you want to be like that guy and that is what pushes you to keep playing the game. Then one day, after having played the game for a veeery long time, you meet this guy who acts like a completely moron and keeps challenging you and you can\'t stop wondering how anybody can act like such a moron. Since you do not feel like fighting somebody with such low status, you decide not to accept his challenge. Instead you talk to your friend who has just become a GM 9, and ask him to find a good reason to kick the guy. You are now an oldbie, and you are damn proud of it! :D
Now, what I want to say is that, as much as I would like to run around like a hippie and just hug all of you, while telling you all how much I love being your equal, I can\'t. There are and always will be newbies and oldbies, simply because we love having it that way. :)
-
It\'s a matter of perception, really.
But at this point, I\'m starting to just not case anymore lol.

I\'m with you, Tyb. I still say, though, that oldbie isn\'t necessarily guaged by the amount of time you\'ve \"been\" around. More by how active and/or knowledgeable you are.

Welcome to the Planeshift forums buddy.
So you mean these forums are about agreeing to argue about certain thing while arguing to agree on other things, only to find out that we\'re agreeing to argue about arguing yet agreeing at the same time?
....Cool O.O

You see my friend let me introduce you to something I like to call \"Drugs\", our posters live off this stuff some take hard drugs others stick to their basics like ciggarettes, pop, coffee but some of the more annoying and persistent arguers take what I also like to call \"Lysol\" a cheap but affective tool made by the french in 1432 during the Hawaiin Civil War to fend off the dutch ;)
Passes out and drops a Lysol Can
-
Hey, um, DB, could we meet out back, I\'d like to talk to you about, you know. In the alley. I hope there aren\'t any cops around...
-
Man, I thought glue would be enough...guess I was wrong...
/me throws away the \'Elmers\'
-
Now that got a chuckle out of me Aiselyn.
Ah yes, the age old question of oldbys. This has been on every forum I have ever been on. On one forum there was a near revolt because of it. Actualy because of one \'oldby\' named Oldsoldier. Long story made short, there are now basicaly two forums in one, with a locked \'gold\' area for invited members. You had to petition just to get in. I was there for two years, yet never made my mark, as I have here, so I was denied.
I no longer visit that forum.
That is why I like it here. Everyone is welcome. Even one such as I.
-
I was just trying to end this seemingly endless discussion...My attempt failed...Oh well...Now I don\'t know what to say or perhaps I do but I better keep my mouth shut...for a while...
-
At least no one has \" me/ jumps over the table and thrusts his katana through John\'s throat, silencing him forever\" yet.
I\'m surprised. *looks around, seeing no black enkies* Well, maybe not.
As long as the discussion remains civil, I see nothing wrong with it.
*edit* Oh, carpfish...page four. Should have left well enough alone.

Ok, now you have X( :D
Anyway, why is this discussion still ... discussed? :D

Meh, you\'re actually not like that, it\'s just you have a little trouble in expressing some of your ideas, which are many, way many ... and people have to trust me in this :D
