For me, Ojaveda and the death realm are still very very dark. Should I relight?
Any news on the updater? Frankly, I\'m preetty glad to be back in, so I don\'t care if it never works again.
-
Please explain this relighting. The areas are very dark for me as well.
-
Well, in the old version, to fix the dark areas, you would log out from say, the Death Realm. Then you re-log in like this:
1. Go to Terminal.
2. cd to /Applications/Planeshift\\ 3D (your PS folder)
3. ./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient -relight
(note the period at the beginning)
then you\'d have a very long log in (like 90 minutes) where it looks like you crashed. Then you get in and the lighting should be better. Now LOG OUT IMMEDIATELY. Then log back in. From there, that area should be fine.
IT takes a very long time, so if there is a better fix, I\'d rather do that.
EDIT: Just did this and it worked for Ojaroad. Took less than 50 minutes on a PowerBook G4
-
I am having problem that may or may not be relighting, but I think possibly not. The ground outside the magic shop, all of ojaroad (except trees and the occasional rockface) and half of the deathrealm are totally black. I think the textures are not loading, is this a related problem.
Thinking about it, I kinda like the deathrealm being almost black...it makes it wonderfully challenging to get out of there.
My mac is:
667 G4 Titanium
MacOSX 10.2.8
512 MB
32 mb (ATI) ATY Rage M7
Hope someone can help,
Xirius
P.S. Dfryer, you\'re the greatest! I\'m sure you\'re not told that even close to enough.

Relighting did help with the crossroads at the magic shop. The texture is no long pitch black. However, many parts of the road are still very dark, even at 7am game time. I got lost in the woods walking around at midnight. Hopefully this is a glitch or someday we\'ll be able to buy torches.
Okay, see you all inside. (Mulla Nasrudin)

Well, I tried the relight while in Ojaroad, unfortunately it didn\'t work, still completely black except for the tree and the Tefusang that was standing right in front of me.
Oh well, any more suggestions?

Originally from an older post but I dug it up just for you:
1> start ps and go to a dark place (sewers or death realm are ideal).
2> open system preferences from the apple menu.
3> select displays.
4> click the colour tab.
on the left hand side you should now see at least one pre configured profile - simply click calibrate. This helps you set up a new profile which will appear next to your original profile in the future.
5> on the first screen of the calibration wizard make sure you check the \"expert mode\" box, as this gives you extra options which may prove useful later.
6> follow the instructions on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th screens.
7> now we come to the gamma settings screen. drag the slider all the way over to the left and click continue.
8> on the next screen do not alter the white point, simply click continue.
9> leave \"allow other users to use this calibration\" checked. click continue.
10> choose a name for your new profile - i called mine PsDarkPlaces. click continue.
11> click done.
now whenever you are in a dark place and need extra light to find your way around simply open system preferences from the apple menu, go to displays, click the colour tab and select the profile PsDarkPlaces (or whatever you called it).
Voila - extra brightness.
Just a word of warning though - remember to switch your profile back to the original configuration when you close planeshift, you will probably find this new profile too bright / harsh on the eyes for everyday computing - similarly you may wish to switch back when you are in well lit areas of the game - the easiest way to do this is to leave system prefs open on the displays screen while you are playing, then you can switch to it from the dock when you need to change profiles.
If you happen to create a profile which you no longer need you can delete it by navigating to :
MacintoshHD>library>coloursync>profiles>displays
....the profiles you create (and the default one - dont delete that!) reside here, so theyre simple enough to get rid of.
Hope this has been helpful

Also did a relight on the death realm. Worked fine. I did not do the new profile that Mathious suggested, though I\'ve heard of success with that.
-
I tried to do a relight on the dungeons. Worked alright, took only 2-3 minutes.
Gonna try it on magic shop, and Oja road as well.
-
...the biggest problem Ive had with relights is the fact that alot of textures show up incorrectly or not at all - regardless of relighting or not.
The worst place for me is the dungeons - havent been down there since MB, anyone know if the relight makes life easier down there?
-
I have relighted the dungeon and the magic shop - works perfect.
But when I try to relight the Oja road and Death Realm, well, it recalculate and the immediately result are very fine. Then I log out, and when I log back in, everythings turned black again. For some reasons, unknown to me, it seems that the relightning aren\'t saved for these places. Anybody who got a clue, for what to do?
-
Just had the same problem. I\'m not sure why...
-
the -relight option didn\'t work for me. I waited about an hour, looked like the same output in Terminal was cycling, repeating, so I thought I\'d waited long enough. So I logged out and logged back in...nothing. I logged out again and then back in, repeating the process. Nothing was repeated.
I also don\'t feel like changing intensities on my screen just to force the view, so I\'ll wait for a fix.
Question: When do you know it\'s time the -relight option finished?
-
Basically, you start the game and it will hang on the \"loading plaza screen\". When it\'s done, you\'ll get into the game. It can take a while and you have to keep the focus. If you take the focus off, it will stop. So start it and go watch a movie or something.... Like Kung Fu Hustle, which was awesome.
The larger maps like the plaza take much longer. It depends on your computer, obviously. I have a PowerBook G4 and I did Ojaroad in about 50 minutes, I guess..
-
Well, it seems to be working. I\'m in the plaza and I have light the first time I enter. Usually it would take 10 minutes or so just to get light on the Plaza.
I see that I was letting the -relight go too long. I would actually be in the game and try to turn and just be frozen there. At one time I had the Tele...tubbie staring at me. He too wasn\'t moving. And from time to time I\'d see other character/players walking by. Sometimes they\'d say something other times, they\'d just walk right on by. I tired to use the comm panel but couldn\'t type either. The interface is taken over I suppose and is run by the terminal.
Long story short... it works now.
I started it at 1:23pm and it finished at 1:41pm. I have a dual 2.0 Ghz G5. If Oja road is dark as well, I now know what to do.
I will have to catch the movie you suggested at another time. Sounds really good. But it will take quite a doing to beat my all-time favorites of \"Enter the Dragon\" or \"Drunken Boxing II\".

Xirius says befuddled
So is this the solution for the missing textures? I am confused if the thread is talking about really dark places (but still can see barely if you turn brightness up all the way and work on monitor settings, and making them lighter), or if it\'s about the completely black surfaces scattered throughout the game which are as far as I can gather textures that are not loading onto the 3d surface...
See, I tried the terminal relight thing suggested at the beginning, and it didn\'t work.
Please somebody clarify... I study archaeology, about the farthest one can get from computer science...
Cheers,
Xirius

Well, it could very well be a textures thing on the Oja road. I\'ve tried unsuccessfully to light (-relight) these now at least 3-4 times now. I earlier had success in the plaza.
I makes sense that this road problem is texture in nature. (but I\'m no programmer or background artist.)
But note this, I\'ve always had a problem with black ground at the magic shop. After I successfully -relight (past tense) the plaza, the black ground at the magic shop cleared up. So these are related. When I got past the forest and was entering the hills, this is where I have the problem with the darkness. I can see trees, the tops of hills but that\'s about it. Oh, and I do see the Tele frager monster and the rouge but not until I turn around and try to come back to the plaza. The -relight never has worked here.
I\'ve been trying to mine a place in this area for two days now and unable to get past this problem.
-
I think the lighting problems on Ojaroad are different fromt the \"usual\" mac lighting bugs - possibly related to shader files (I get really weird stuff in that area).
We still aren\'t sure of the cause of the original Mac Lighting Problem which affects the deathrealm and the area near magic shop, but relighting *does* fix it. Some of the maps also have problems causing black polygons on both Mac and PC.

It is because PC is native 2.2 gamma, and mac is native 1.8, which causes the color calculations to change (although you\'d think that would cause mac to be brighter) coupled with the finer detail \'calculator\' mac uses for their screens to get a \"false\" higher resolution than the screen itself (except on high end screens).
[I work with art--I learned this]
as for the color profile, macs come with a gamma 1--but this won\'t work well for some mac lcd. It doesn\'t work for mine on the black parts--they are still whole black.
[still looking for code to just relight deathrealm--I don\'t like fullbright (relight deathrealm did work once or twice using the pssetup)]
-
Hello all,
I haven\'t tried -relight, but I\'ve used -fullbright with no problems. There are no more nice lighting effects (night looks like day, etc.) but you can see everything you need to see without the problems people have described above for -relight.
-
Please, people (well, Gripen), search. I\'ve mentioned before that there will be a new lighting system in the next release which should fix everything. Also, this thread is ancient. No gravedigging! iLock.
