I was at a bo seminar with my Taekwondo school trip in Japan. and I got Master Fumio Demorah to sign my book.
Heh, figures.. hehe he signed it in chinese or Japanese (I cant tell, but since we were in Japan...) and didnt tell me what it said.
can anyone make sense of it? He asked me for my name which is Matt, and i figure its in there somewhere :P

It\'s Japanese (he used Katakana), but I\'m awful at reading handwriting. I\'ve been spoiled by computers...
The characters マット are your name. They\'re on the right, just above the cursive script.
That\'s all I can understand. /me is awful with kanji and handwritten Japanese

edit: Aaaand it won\'t let me post Japanese characters. Hooray.
I love the boat picture, by the way.

hehehe.. a valiant attempt. I dont know that much about the language. so i dont even know if hes handwriting is terrible or not. heh
anyone else here?

As MaidenIndigo said, the bit on the right is (an approximation of) your name:
??? = \"matto\"
Set your browser to Unicode ( UTF-8 ) encoding and those characters might appear legibly.
As for the rest... I can see the character ? (\'earth\'), and it appears to be part of some other character, possibly ? (\'divination diagram\') with part omitted. The bottom character appears to contain ? (\'strength\') but the top half isn\'t clear. You\'d have to ask a native speaker, and even they might have difficulty reading it... I suspect that, like an English signature, it\'s not meant to be readable.
I tried typing \"Fumio Demora\" into Notepad with the Microsoft Japanese IME, but the characters it came up with were clearly nothing like the signature, so it doesn\'t appear to be his name.

The bottom left looks like \"otoko\", or man ( \"power in the rice field\" ). Above that, it\'s hard to tell. The earth radical is definitely visible, but everything else is REALLY messy. I could ask my sensei, but I don\'t know if she\'ll have any better luck with it. :\\

well so far ive got
earth, strength, man, and something similar to my name.
better than I could do with it. maybe some more people iwll come along that read it better :-)

The strength (or power) radical is actually part of man. So that one doesn\'t count. And the earth radical is probably part of something else, so that doesn\'t really count either. The thing on the right is the phonetic Japanese spelling of your name, though, so that\'s definite, at least. ;)
