I did a little search and found nothing on this. Forgive my if I\'m wrong.
I was just wondering if it would be too much to ask for mushrooms to grow randomly in the wild. Something to hunt besides mobs. A way to make money besides mining. And a fun thing to do (a throwback to Crystal hunting).
-
I really like this idea. Just scatter anything valuable throughout the landscape. It gives people a reason to explore a bit more.
-
Like the idea :D
It would bring back the memories of MB.
\"Lordbug greets Poisonous Mushroom\" :P
Just mushroom spawns like in MB with crystals.
-
nushrooms like that ?

-
Yeah, mushrooms like that. What is that page?
-
Well I do know that the alchemy skill is supposed to let one gather herbs from nature to brew potions with. So I suspect there will be mushrooms etc. for that one.
*watches a random pothead run around the woods skyclad looking for hallucogenic shrooms*
I \'m still unsure if it \'s actually good or bad though :P
-
Actually, I implemented support for randomized spawn places (a little bit like the MB one, but better :P) for stuff like this.
I bet Talad has some plans for it
-
could they decrease your exaution and decrease your accuracy? and if you were on a ptrasaur you would be pulled over when doing them?
-
I like the idea, but it would make me feel a little bit like playing Harvest Moon - Save the Homeland for the PS2. :P
I don\'t think you should be able to eat them raw, instead they could be used for potion-making. Your Herbal skill might be able to help you identify them or something similar.

-
Perhaps they could be used with both potion making and cooking, I don\'t see why one shouldn\'t be able to do that. Fx. some would be poisonous (not for eating, perhaps they can be used for potions) other would not be poisonous (used for both eating and for potions)

huh? could you perhaps rephrase that?

/me dies of laughter.
I believe Black_rose meant that you would be aprehended by the authorities for flying under the influence. I.e. doing mushrooms, not Pterosaurs. :D

ah I see, but I am sure one would be pulled over by doing the other thing as well :D

Really?! That\'s true?! YAY!!! old MB days :D This things make the day seem better.
-
stuff like this is hopefuly going to be used for alchemy, not just for simple sale

Wow, tangerine is truly scary looking.

Please tell me it\'s the grass-growing server! 8)
Hmm, I seriously hope it won\'t be like in MB... no rehash of the hunt... \"the evil mushroom hunt\". Also, i don\'t like the idea of mind-altering drugs. In fact, if alcohol wasn\'t so popular, it shouldn\'t be there as well IMO.
There should be mushrooms, just like flowers and other plants, but don\'t make them overly valuable. I don\'t mind them to be edible, though... but you should spawn carrots as well. In fact, the mushrooms could be much like carrots, just grow in different places, obviously.
-
Think carrots and potatos and all that thingys are going to be \"mined\". Like /dig carrot
I don\'t know whats the problem of \"hunting mushrooms\". And also there could be seasons for the mushrooms. And in the \"mushroom\" season there could be an event \"hunt for the mushrroms\" :) Think it would be kinda cool :)
Remember the hunting games organized by Zan? Instead of rat eyes and all those stuff it would be mushrooms.
-
I don\'t usually revive old threads but ...
We have mushrooms!
-
Yeah I made a few spawn points for them. They will spawn in more places soon, but atm you can find them in one or two spots between hydlaa and ojaveda.
-
Great job, I \'ve found one area where they grow so far.
I hope they \'ll be spawning randomly in the future though. It would be more fun to gather them that way instead of knowing exactly where they \'ll be.
And another question .. do they serve any purpose yet and can we sell them? Don\'t have to answer with specifics, I \'d just like to know if they can be used or sold to NPC\'s.

Should answer the questions
-
thanks for implementing it !
I liked the idea of mushrooms like they are!
PS : i must admit when i came to the dungeon thanks to the old MB way... listening to the music... i was looking if there was a crystal somewhere... ahhh good old days!
-
Well I think that in due time there should be a lot more than mushrooms growing and that there would be a lot of herbs scattered around that could be only picked up or identified depending on the level of Herbal skill the character has :D like some herbs everyone could identify... but others it would need at least a bit of herbal skill while others would need LOTS of herbal skill! And of course the main purpose of having several kinds of herbs would be to make several kinds of potions... and that\'s where the Alchemy skill would come in! :D
-
I see alot of potential in these mushrooms- not only could a player get starting funds by collecting what is out there already, but if there was a simple quest that give them even more funds for finding some.... Then they could get some training and maybe make a minor healing potion just out of simple mushrooms. Then rare mushrooms would come in for more complex potions, as well as other random items, like tefu teeth, rat eyes, etc. Maybe even a little bit of some ore? The sky is the limit!
-
Vegetarians of the Stalagtite salute you!!!
-
yes yes, having them is all good and gloryful. but can you get arrested for doing them? and do monsters spawn near you more when you do?
I THINK NOT!!!! IT\'S A COVER-UP I TELL YA!
-
i dont think the mushrooms should spawn randomly over the map, because it is in a mushrooms nature to grow in one place though the mushroom over the surface is only the fruit of the rizom. flowers and such plants which reproduce themselves in other ways than mushrooms (with seeds) could spawn randomized over the map.
everyone who is gathering mushrooms by himself knows that there are special places where different kinds of mushrooms grow and nowhere else in the region.
and mushrooms prefer a dark and wet place to grow ... so dungeons and wet caverns should be the right places.
that mushrooms have medical effects (pos and neg) is proven and so i think it should be implemented in the game.
seeing some more stuff to gather and to explore around is great .. keep on coding :P

You \'re right that completely random wouldn\'t be very realistic but that they spawn at the exact same spot after the exact same amount of time isn\'t very realistic either. So a middle way would work best.
Mushrooms spawn randomly in spots they would normally thrive in, like the shadowy spots under trees for example. But they shouldn\'t always spawn in the same spot and same timeframe. Say you have 3 trees and one mushroom. The mushroom is under the first tree first and when it respawns it moves to the 3rd tree .. then after a long while back to the first. And after a short time to the second.
Simple example of some more random spawning but still in realistic areas. We can\'t have mushrooms growing the the middle of hydlaa plaza no :P
-
You\'re missing the whole point:
The question is, do we have to cut the mushroom before picking it, or pick up all the mushroom?
-
always cutting .. no picking cause it hurts the rhizom.

*equips dual claymores, targets mushroom, starts fully defensive attack* :D
Seriously, I consider the \"pick up\" option to default to the most sensible way of getting hold of the targeted item.
Therefore, I consider myself cutting off the mushroom, not plucking it off the ground. Yeah, it\'s a bit harder if you don\'t have a blade, but you can still break it off above the ground.
-
I already got some, my collection shall grow! Mouahha, I shall grow my own mushrooms! Mushrooms to cleanse all evil!...*Starts coughing, John looks a bit sick, maybe something to do with 3 mushrooms he said today for dinner :D*
-
How do you prevent people who aren\'t interested in alchemy from picking mushrooms just to sell them to someone else?
-
What\'s the problem with picking mushrooms just to sell them to someone else?
-
because mushroom pickers would be out of a job.
-
You can\'t just eliminate competition like that  People go after items or tasks for different reasons all the time. Why would you prevent the picking of mushrooms for anything other than alchemy? What if someone -needs- those mushrooms for alchemy, but isn\'t able to pick them him- or herself, and thus would need to find a supplier (aka another player) to buy them from? What about the healing properties of these mushrooms (if this is to remain)?
That\'s ridiculous.
