Hi there!
i\'ve been working on a female ylian model in my free time for the past 2 weeks, thanks to the refrence images by cherppow the model really looks great. It\'s untextured now, but i\'ll texture it soon or maybe someone else skilled at textureing can make it\'s skin??
I modeled this to get it ingame, i want it to be ingame so what do you think??
(http://img80.echo.cx/img80/7016/ylianpreview1lv.jpg) (http://www.imageshack.us)
and i hope this will get inside....
-
woooow, that goood!
the only thing whats a little weird about it are the breasts, they\'re just size FF!
-
They are large because i didn\'t modeled her naked, it\'s her shirt covering them, and the breasts are as they were in the refrence images.
If other ppl have same opinion about them i can make them smaller. Please i want feedback on this.
-
hmm pretty good, I must admit that I would rather say if I wanted it ingame, after it has been textured.
But as Rosmer said, the breast\'s really looks strange - so that should be fixed before texturing IMO, other than that pretty good :)
EDIT: little late with post it seems -.- well then if that explains the breast\'s then sure I look forward to see it textured :D - also don\'t mind about the breast being too big, just see the Female Ynnwn model! \"boy\'s like \'em big\" :P
-
I include only front refrence image, you better see the image from three views as drawn by cherpow so you can better comment on it:
http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=9622&boardid=22&page=5
I\'ve also edited the image; Added a render from side so breast size can be guessed more easily... Now do you still think they are large???
*Wonders, who in Europe hates large breasts...!*
And yeah once the model is final, i\'ll start texturing.
-
New picture is much better than last one, and well the link you posted... leads to an empty thread, just thought you might wanted to know this ;)
-
Looks good, but I have an issue with the form of the face: it looks like it is converging to the chin, like in \"Army Of Darkness\" after Ash came out of that book. :)
I think the chin needs to be less protruding.
You should ask the devs if the hair should be in the model, I remember something about separate hair meshes, which will be required for the customisation...
I find the breasts too big, too, something which irritates me about the Fynwnn model as well. Then again, this should also be selectable in the end, just as muscles, fat and height. *comes back to reality* Awww.
-
i guess its pretty good and all....but what happened to the old character model that was there in molecular blue. I happened to like that model.
-
... I don\'t think we ever had a female Ylian model in MB o_O
-
Pretty good, needs more detail though.
:emerald:
-
You need to feminze the model. Make her look thin and tall, not short and chubby. And give her some lipo on the hips. :P
-
Thin and tall? Since when have these been the defining properties of females? Alright, being thin has become the ideal in at least many western civilisations, but overdoing the height isn\'t a good thing. After all, Ylians are supposed to be humans, and as such
From the settings page
Their robust and well-proportioned body gives them the opportunity to work in all arts. They can have hair from black to white, eyes with wonderful colors and skin from pale to dark brown. They are from 1.60 m to 1.85 m tall.
If the humans become too thin, the Nolthrirs who
From the settings page
appear as slim elves
would barely be visible due to skinny-ness. :D
Furthermore, the female model should be about the same size as the male model, as there AFAIK is no clear definition of which (if any) is taller than the other.
-
Even if you modelled her wearing clothes, it still looks like she\'s wearing shoulderpads underneath her shirt. ;) The breasts form from the chest, not the shoulders. If you fixed that, it would start to look a million times better imo.
P.S. You can\'t get anything ingame if you post it in the forums. Talad won\'t accept things that people have already publicly seen. Apply to the team and do some tasks for us instead, otherwise I\'m afraid it was a bit of a waste of time. :)
P.P.S. She would also need fingers... >.>
-
also don\'t mind about the breast being too big, just see the Female Ynnwn model! \"boy\'s like \'em big\"
do you think im a girl? i\'m just being real. just keep dreaming about such boobs, they dont exist, only in mortal comabt :P.

Hi!
Here\'s more direct link to the sketch -
(http://users.tkk.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/VR_Female_Ylian_Sketch.jpg)
Good job DivineLight, I like it! Not of the most athletic sort, but very beautiful still. Just like the sketch. Good modeling. I\'d be interested to know the polygon count. :)
I\'ll agree that she\'d look better if the chest was flattened a bit. I may have overdone it on the sketch.
I have little to add to what tips you\'ve already been given. Hmm, maybe you could make the tip of her feet less pointy (vertically). Wrists could be just a bit thinner too, in the side view. As a separate mesh, her hair could sway more realistically, without affecting the shape of her neck.
Right now it\'s a good looking statue :) it still needs more work to be a character, so don\'t give up.
To rosmerelmer: Hmm, Blender smoothing works good with me. Could be that the corresponding vertices are not joined, so the program thinks that the object ends there. Also check that you\'ve applied the smoothing to the whole object and not just some of the vertices. Can\'t say more without more information. Be sure to download the newest version.
Ps. Can\'t agree with Moogie about the waste of time thing; you\'ve done likeable fanart here, had fun, gained experience, inspired some people, got new friends...
Pss. Does your name lack an \'L\' there on the pic, or is it just a style thing?
-
Hello,
IMO, it\'s not good at all :) It\'s not a skinny or heavy problem, it\'s about shape and modeling flow.
Try to make the shape better, give details. Proportions are wrong too.
Watch carefully the position of shoulder and neck, also yes the breast are totally unrealistic.
Take reference from a real human, and then change proportion to fit Cherpow one if you want. But right now, this is not human :)

But what about the WoW? I hope that doesn\'t count as \"public\"?
I get it is al about making sure nothing will be copied before it is ingame? Or is there another reason for the secrecy?
And what if DivineLight is more intending to contribute only a few things, which wouldn\'t warrant becoming (WTB) member? IIRC, that is mentioned in the license, too?
-
I don\'t know what \"the WoW\" means, and I\'m afraid I don\'t know the exact reasons for secrecy either. Probably due to the reason you stated.
If you want to just be a contributor, you submit the work to Talad privately.
-
(Well of Wishes) :>
-
I personally have the feeling that the breasts are a bit to big, somehow. They somehow look like they would grow out of the neck or more the shoulders.
-
Ahh, Laanx Wheel of Wishes you mean? I\'m not sure about that. My guess is that its for generic objects and more of the \'unimportant\' background art in the game. I doubt you could submit a character model to LWoW and actually get it used.
-
Yup, good old Laanx\'s Wheel of Wishes. Which no one uses anymore.
In my opinion (IMO for you net speak peoples ;)) Talad not considering works that have been shown to the \'public\' (meaning the few people that actualy visit this forum) takes him down a few notches of my respect.
In my mind, a true visionary takes inspiration from what ever source it may come.
To get back on subject--> As for the model, I agree with the others that the bust is a little large and high. The human form is sometimes hard to model, but don\'t give up. I tried my hand at a Kran female figure a time back, and it wasn\'t easy.
-
Actually I disagree. I applaud him for it. It must be so tempting to take everything we can get, being so short of artists on the team.
But if most of the things that got in-game were things we\'ve all already seen before, it would be dull, boring, nothing new, nothing exciting. The very reason the development processes are hidden is to keep this \"wow-factor\" going, make people wait anxiously and then be blown away by some cool thing that suddenly appears in the game.
So, IMO, respect for Talad +++.
-
Perhaps he should write somewhere, that he doesn\'t accept art that is official. Which leads me to the next question has he done this already?
-
Hmm just a thought... could it bet hat Talad doesn?t accept that kind of art because it could give problems with the restrictive licenses of PS art ? I don?t know but the problem might be connected to that.

True, but there is also the pride of players looking into the game and saying, \"I helped with that.\" Think of it this way, would you feel better about loading Windows on your PC and having no idea how it works and have practicaly no input on how it should work or the features you get, or building Linix exactly how you want it and seeing it come to life before your eyes.
The road needs to go both ways. Take my stories, if you will. I started with some one elses ideas (meaning the world of PS), and made them my own. I too strived for the \'Wow\' factor, but added my own touch, creating something unique out of what was allready known. And I take pride in that.
I don\'t suggest taking everything that is thrown at the game, just some things that would truly make the world better.
Unique does not have to mean never seen before, just done in a way that has people saying, \"Wow, I have never seen it done that way. Cool.\"
Some things do need to be kept in the circle...but not everything. So that is why I said what I said, and stand by it.
-
Aye, I was referring to the Wheel of Whishes.

The license has a provision for that, which is
from the PS license
Any other work (such as 2D graphics, 3D models, music and sounds, character descriptions or fantasy world histories) will be the property of Atomic Blue once you submit it, but you will continue to have the right to display the work as part of a personal portfolio. You are not allowed to display or use the work in another game or application and you are not allowed to use derivative works owned by Atomic Blue.
So basically, if the author agrees to sign away their copyright and stuff with the exception mentioned, the license poses no problem for inclusion.
As for taking away the \"wow\" factor: it is of course a double-edged sword. On one hand, players should be given the opportunity to input thoughts, OTOH, the team doesn\'t have to listen to the players at all and staying mostly independant is necessary.
So, considering that the team will have skilled people to give most of the advice / criticism that the players could, taking in feedback can indeed be deferred until after the release. However, by that time things must be open to suggestions, something which I have seen with everything but the models, probably because everyone knows that without all models being done, chances are zero to have changes to existing ones, and rightfully so.
Therefore, this pretty much limits the fan-art section to pure fan-art, i.e., things that aren\'t intended to go ingame by the author, while everything else must be submitted to Talad, as Moogie said, in private.
I am far from happy with having to sign away copyright on work, but what is stated on the license page does make sense in that this is the only way to ensure a future for PS.

Hi All!
Berast now don\'t start from shoulders, thanks Moogie.
Wrists are also thin and feet(actually shoes) are less pointy, thanks cherppow.
Her chin is now less protruding, thanks Seytra.
Look:
(http://img146.echo.cx/img146/9837/ylianfinal2rg.th.jpg) (http://img146.echo.cx/my.php?image=ylianfinal2rg.jpg)
In few hours i got such a great feedback, i am happy i got a good response :)
@Cherppow: Yeah buddy, i modeled blindly following refrence images, i should have thought myself that a refrence image is for refrence not a final render. It was nothing less in you\'r art, it was fault in my art.
Thanks for great support and appreciation there, you\'ve made me more passionate.
Oops i missed the \'L\' in my name.
you\'ve done likeable fanart here, had fun, gained experience, inspired some people, got new friends...
Exactly :) i want friends, i got friends.
@Moogie: this one doesn\'t worth being ingame, and i left fingers, the texture can give a look of fingers to the hand. For the contributing thing i mailed the Art Department leader a month ago, i think his name was stefano... but i got no reply, i want some simple modeling task.
And Waste of time? cmon girl, i\'ve learned a lot and i\'ve made you post twice :P and i bet you\'ll post again. :)
@Djaggernaut: Thanks friend for taking out your time and giving useful comments to make me improve.
It\'s my second attempt to make a human model, i was a bit excited when i got this one finished and thought until a good FYlian model arrives this can stay ingame, but i know it\'s not easy doing game quality models, and what the hell i am expecting from my second model?? i need tons of experience and i thank you all for pointing me with my mistakes.
You\'r replies were helpful and kind, no flame like \"Oh shit piece of art, don\'t you know how to model..\" etc so thumbs up for great and respectable PS community.
I am basically a C++ programmer and i\'ve already fixed a bug in PS :), i do art as hobby. So sorry for those funny images, atleast i\'ve make some of you laugh :(
And if you want to laugh more; look at my first model: http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16255&boardid=22&styleid=4
-
ooh nice one. the new model is looking better than the other one . alot more um .... proportioned ? ;) nice going !
-
A good attempt, but not a quality model I beleive.
The human body aethetically looks like a compilation of 6 peices: The head, 2 arms, 2 legs, and the torso which everything is assembled together at.
Instead, your model almost looks like a single clump of clay molded into a familiar silouette of a human with long hair. Actually a more suiting description would be that it looks like a person has been put in a skin tight rubber suit. Things look like they could be touched up, more detailed and later brought to a better quality. However, as it stands now the model looks only average.
This does not mean it is a bad model. I am amazed that you could take the time to make something so complicated and time consuming, so on that note \"Congratulations\".
I do like it, but I hope you touch it up in the future and bring a quality model to the developement team.
Just don\'t post it here. :P
-
Thanks Kixie, i call it constructive criticism and it helps me alot. :]
For this model it\'s done, editing this model takes more time, i\'ll model a new one and keep the lessons i learned from this one in mind. Now i\'ll start texturing this model and eventually it\'ll get a bit more better.
For this model, i say it\'s not worth being ingame, so let\'s then wait till my modeling skills are good enough( that would take 2 years :P) or some PS artist see a dream of female ylian kissing him. :)
-
It is now skinned as ugly as it was modeled. so thumbs down for me.
