Title: To the Queen B
Post by: Turbock on May 17, 2005, 05:23:12 pm
You have proved that you have the right to shut down a thread, and you probably did the right thing on the AAAAAAArgh thread I was last on, and you may do it here, but I am going to finish my point.
It has gotten so belabored that the developers are \"working for FREE\", they are \"devoting their time\" and all that.
Let me say up front, I have enjoyed the fruits of their labors.  Admittedly, there are still a lot of bugs, but I (we, the users) have learned to adapt or work around them for the time being.
As users, we sometimes do take for granted the work that is put into a project and not give adequate consideration for the people, or the time put into it.  The inconsiderate user should be taken into account and treated as such, but not attacked by the programmers and developers and called names.
It would be unfair to charge for a game that goes down for maintenance and doesn\'t come back online when promised.  It would be unfair to charge for a game that uses semi-professional people to administer it.  See where I\'m coming from.  You get what you pay for, and you pay for what you get.  As long as these programmers/developers keep the attitudes of \"take it or leave it,\"or \"we\'re doing this for free, so kiss our rings,\" you will be lucky to stay in the bush league, if you don\'t fail.  Ask a few of the others that have gone by the wayside, and a lot of MMORPG\'s have.
As a final note: You should keep the game online as much as possible.  Some folks get very addicted to this online stuff and get nasty when you take away their candy.:)

I have not seen any official calling anyone names. Considering what they have been insulted with, they were surprisingly polite IMNSHO.

Microtheft charges you and don\'t give a crap about their stuff being full of bugs.

Also, there are loads of projects that have semi-professionals and still charge. There is no point in that argument.

The thing is that while the PS devs find it nice to be popular, they don\'t aim for it. And they are hopefully not going to bow to anyone\'s requests so they won\'t lose a player. In fact, I see the the \"take or leave\" principle as necessary for a project of that size and userbase.

Also, it seems that noone of those who complain \"the devs don\'t listen to meeeee!\" has ever noticed the wishlist, the bugtracker, the IRC channels, and the other ways of giving feedback and suggesting ideas to the team.
The fact is that they do listen, just not to pointless ramblings and insults.

I can only say that it\'s their very own fault. Getting addicted to anything is stupid, and you are bound to eventually have it taken away from you.

PS has become what it is without the usual \"uptime at all costs\", and it will succeed with it. I don\'t like being cut off, but I will not even ask how long it is going to take, because I know that if it was avoidable, it wouldn\'t be down. The conclusion is that any delay is necessary, and whining about it is only going to make it take longer, by

1) wasting the dev\'s time
2) reducing their motivation

This has been the very first downtime for months, and it even has been announced! Seriously, even if it took one more week I would know that it is because it cannot be avoided, so what good would whining do? It wouldn\'t help a commercial game as well, the only thing they would do is bring a shabby server up, running the old version, wasting more dev time. PS doesn\'t need such silly marketing tricks.

You would know all of this if you had been here during the end of MB times...

Oh, BTW, I know what the \"B\" in the title is standing for, and you should be banned for that, from both forum and game.

I followed the AAAAAAArgh and thought about telling ppl. to go rant and rave other places, but I voted against it as I thought that one single topic could be used to let some steam off. But as I can se now, that doesn?t work, so I would like introduce a nice little feature on this kind of forum, it is called a PM (Private message). The PM?s should be used when the topic is relevant to only one person (as this clearly is). So please, personal comments: USE THE PM BUTTON THANKS.

/Kunisch

PS: I realise that this might seem personal, but that is not the intend of it. The only reason I posted this is that I am tired of seeing topics which should have been in a mail o gar PM on the boards. So please use the PM. (Summed up, I?m only posting this so others can learn)

Edited for language.

Forum moderators have final words.  If you feel was unjust then contact me with reasons and links to thread.

Yes, which is why we try to educate people on the nature of the project.  I mean I work on PS a *lot* most days and others I don\'t work as hard.  Is it fair for me to get slammed then for not working on my hobby?  Something I do in my spare time because I enjoy it.  As soon as people start demanding things it drives motivation right down and it stops being fun.

I\'ve never personally see that attiude.  If you mean the other thread then there is nothing there in my view.

If I had a link to that captain obvious poster I would have it.   We try our damdest to do the best job we can do when we are not working our full days, taking care of our familes, etc.

I guess you understand what you meant by that statement.

You are quick to use the word, stupid, every chance you get.  You are morality police too.

I guess you have the perfect answer for everything, and your answer for anyone who differs from your opinion is to ban, kill or dismember.  I know your kind has run off more potential players than has attracted.

Moderators, Seytra is the only one who can provide the true answers to everything.  So I will not post anymore.  Hell, I won\'t play the game anymore.  Let Seytra play with himself.

There is often an over-use of censorship around here.
