Title: Server is Back Online!
Post by: Moogie on May 19, 2005, 12:41:15 am
Yes! Finally the Laanx server is online once again. We ran into some unforseen issues due to the update that was meant to only last for the weekend, but thankfully now all seems to be working again.

From the mainsite (http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html):

Quote

Hi Planeshifters,
the server is up again, and the update is ready to be downloaded. You can just use your 0.3.009 version and use the updater, it will get about 80Mb of files. A new full package will be available in the next days.

The update took more than expected due to some level changes and some internal engine changes. We hope you will enjoy it.

Here are the main things we delivered in the update:

Major User-Visible Features:

* New area of East Hydlaa is available (Jayose has been relocated). New NPCs will be added there soon.
* Character traits - current only 1 new elf skin. You can now customize the face of your char (dermorian only). Now that the feature is in place, we will add more faces for other chars as well.
* New crafting system - shields only at the moment
* New complete GUI skinning system
* One additional skin available thanks to Cherppow. (to change it, you can rename planeshift/art/skin/elves.zip into planeshift/art/skin/default.zip)
* New loading screens
* Added duel points and advisor points to skill window info displayed.
* Added some new button art to look better.
* Added duel-point penalty for spamming duel invites.
* Added command to see /duel_points
* You don\'t get skill practise for attacking other players now.
* Train icon added in the interaction menu with trainers
* Added /changeguildname
* German manual
* Message window will now no longer jump to the end when a message is added.
* /quit now prompts before quitting
* Added link to login page that shows where to register a new account.
* License of the package changed from PlaneShift Team to Atomic Blue.

Major User-Visible Fixes:

* A number of bug fixed on Hydlaa level.
* Updated/fixed some spell effects
* Fixed that you could freely PK players that were just joining the game
* Fixed that if you opened a window during autorun, you could run forever
regardless of stamina.
* Fixed that when you died, you could still turn your remains with mouselook.
* When a character is attacked, its stance resets to \"full defense\".
* Fixed that tab completition was sometimes changing chat command to /tell
from e.g. /say.
* Fixed that when negative HP rates lowered HP to zero, the character
was not killed.
* Fixed that vitals were not adjusted when they were at maximum value.
This means that negative rates (e.g. spells) were not always applied.

There are some known bugs we will fix soon:

*Flickering of a rectangle region near the connection between hydlaa plaza and the new East Hydlaa map
* Pssetup may crash on some systems
* Chat sometimes doesn\'t scroll down to follow new text

Thanks for your continuous support, let\'s make PlaneShift a great online role playing game!

So, what are you waiting for? Go try out some of those new Dermorian male faces and tell me what you think. :D *pride*

moogie, u said that when the server comes back on line we should update, but u also said that the updater is screwed up (which it is) and u shouldnt update until the server is back on line. Well, my updater is still screwed up, should i update or not?

my updater is screwed up, seems to be only the skin. but it is updating
Title:
Post by: maxben on May 19, 2005, 12:49:17 am
so is it fine to update?
Title:
Post by: Moogie on May 19, 2005, 01:02:23 am
Yes, everyone needs to update now. The skin will look awfully strange- black background, overlapping text etc... but that is normal as far as I know. Once you\'ve updated, those graphical problems will disappear. :)

Quick question: Is there no longer a way to turn the menu into a horizontal bar, or is this vertical thing now permanent?

I\'m probably missing something on how to change it, so if anyone could just kindly point me in the right direction (if it exists) I\'d appreciate it.

Also, is it known that this baby is forever transparent, no matter how you try to bring it into focus?

Or am I missing something again ^^

right click the Chevrons at the top, 3 choices ^^

for the shortcuts, try right clickin on it, not on a button or on the scroll part, its awkward to catch but a window should pop up with the usual transparency and fade options ^^

I\'m getting a problem when the updater tries to update itself. It says...

\"Couldn\'t copy file \'cspngimg.dll\'! The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (32)\"
Title:
Post by: Moogie on May 19, 2005, 01:54:25 am
Aiselyn: For that problem you need to close the Updater window before pressing \"OK\". I can\'t remember which one you need to close (DOS or the graphical one) but one of them will work. Process of elimination. :P

Karyuu: Simply rightclick the little arrow thingies.

you close the graphical window.

Worth noting that this is only for Windows for now, Linux release will be comming (supposedly) tomorrow.

Got it, thanks :)

I don\'t get it. I don\'t even see an \'OK\' button yet. Basically here\'s what happens...

I load up the updater. (ver 1.0.2.5)
I click \'Update\'
It says it needs to update to ver 1.0.2.6. and it starts to do it.
After it reaches 100% I get a whole bunch of error messages as described above.
If I click cancel all the way, the updater attempts to update again automatically and fails again.

Aiselyn, what OS do you have?
Let me guess... Windows, from the sound of it.
Check the Technical help and CB bugs forums, they seem to have a solution there. :)

I use Windows XP. I have supper right now anyway, I guess I\'ll have to go search for it sometime later on.

Wow! this update is so amazingly buggy on my computer its insane. Oh, and where do you get that other skin for the demorian icould change its eye tattoos, but not costume or skin color
Title:
Post by: Darkblade on May 19, 2005, 03:13:14 am
Hmm... I did some searching for you, but I haven\'t seen the same bug yet...

Anyways, here\'s a thread which may point to possible solutions:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16582&boardid=17&styleid=3&sid=0fd148b99aa291b08d374830738dcb42

But as far as I know, it deals with the black updating issue....

I\'m not sure how to deal with it otherwise, I\'m not an expert in XP.

my updater stoped at 15% and its been there ever since is it just slow or is it broken
by the way my updater is white
Title:
Post by: Darkblade on May 19, 2005, 03:30:30 am
It may be slow, this is 80 mb we\'re talking about!
But, since your updater has seemed to have stopped... I\'d say you lost the connection.
I think you\'ll have to restart the updater.
Title:
Post by: yx123 on May 19, 2005, 03:32:47 am
i tried with the recovery mode and it didn\'t work
i restarted the updater and that last time i checked it\'s at 0%. It normally take me about 4-5min to download a 80mb file and i waited for awhile
Title:
Post by: Darkblade on May 19, 2005, 03:40:10 am
Hmm... I\'m not sure, you\'ll have to ask one of the devs, or someone who know quite a bit about XP (not me), or who has experience this problem...
Title:
Post by: Aiselyn on May 19, 2005, 03:49:05 am
Hey! I may have figured it out.

Seems as though the updater downloads a .zip. So I have copied the files from that zip folder and replaced the new ones manually. When I loaded the updater it showed the new updater.

I feel smart now. I\'m just so \'edumacated\'. (Actually I feel dumb for not thinking about that before).

Thanks Moogie and Darkblade anyway. :)

Finally a new area to claim turf on before anyone else does.I say place a opposing tavern there so we can have our first opposing bussiness to get our economy going! Cheers to the Hydlaa Sanitarium!

I believe the font is now outlined in black which makes it a bit easier on the eyes.  I\'ve had some texture issues, but so far it doesn\'t seem that bad.

They tried to fix the hole in Hydlaa by the mountain, but I can still get out...You can\'t hold me!  Ha! At least they fixed that hole in the map in the same place.

Too bad there\'s a ground-level map hole in the new area of Hydlaa   And an invisible wall that likes to eat players...

This has been answered before.
Anyway just click up the left  top icon, and with luck it will be solved. You might need lots of tries.

I found the easy way was to update...then stop the update. Use the updater recover mode and resume....at least you can monitor the update that way. Worked for me :)

Tsk, this problem has been around since CB. :D Usually, it would appear most commonly on W9x / ME, but it has appeared on XP as well.
The thread that has fixes for all file related updating problems  is this (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=12936&boardid=33&styleid=4).
It says it\'s for W98 and \"command.com hang\", but it still applies to all windows versions and updating errors. :)

Added duel points and advisor points to skill window info displayed.
Added command to see /duel_points

I was hoping they would finally remove the duel points! ;(

well, I hoped they had fixed the quest system... but I guess they had more important things to fix or to add, but after all they are the Devs and I trust their judgement... so if they think things are more important then it is :)

Is there supposed to be a wall blocking the dungeon entrance by the tower?  You can still barely get past it, but I was just wondering if that was supposed to be there.

Post by: hitancrias on May 20, 2005, 01:37:00 am
I think they did it on purpose, but after a few times it won\'t be that hard anymore. Just strafejump under an angle of about 45 degrees.

There is a config file called planeshift.cfg in your planeshift directory. All informations like windows positions, its width and height are stored in it.
You can edit your broken values in for example notepad and your problem will be solved.
Find the correct lines which defines your broken window width and height and edit these.
I hope this was helpfull

Because they are nothing but a plain invitation to random PKing and powerlevelling, and do absolutely nothing to encourage RP in any way. They are, IMNSHO, the greatest misconception in PS since the crystal hunt. Their presence seems to be diametrally opposed to PS\'s stated goals. I can frankly see no reason to have duelling points based on these goals.
