Install nvidia drivers and then reinstall X package. It works here, nothing so
great but makes the game playable.

as i use gentoo this would be a reinstall from source which would take several hours, i dont think this is a possible workaround.
but i noticed there is a new release of the nvidia-glx driver. im gonna try this one.

Well, I have just tested it. Problem is that CS seems to have some bug but also
that GL which Nvidia driver provides seems to work worse than standard one
that comes from X.

I have a similiar problem:
I never get more than 1,8 fps!!!!
My setting:
OS: Gentoo Linux
Kernel: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
RAM: 1024MB DDR RAM (Corsair)
Graphics: ATI Radeon 9800 All-In-Wonder Pro
I did everything like it is told in the gentoo-Ati-FAQ...
Any ideas?

Anyone figure this out yet? I have similar specs to the quoted person.

Gentoo, kernel 2.6.12-r3, a64 2800@1800mhz, fx 5200 ultra, 512mb ram. My fps isn\'t low per say as with the latest nvidia drivers , I see my fps fluctuate between 50-100 but then down to the 30\'s then down to 5-10. All the while my game is stuttering like it\'s lagging badly but obviously watching the fps fluctuate all the way down to the teens and stay there for 5 seconds or so this is a gfx issue.

Note, I can play many games just fine, ut2k4, et, and HL2 and CS:S with cedega.. ugh. I really wanted to try this game. ;/ I still do! Someone help us figure this out. I\'ve reinstalled, X, my drivers, just updated my kernel since I first ran into this issue.

What drivers do you use with the radeon card?
Does glxgears or the game say that direct rendering is disabled (on startup)?

Does uninstalling the driver make any difference?

Since it looks like a new card (9800) there may be issues.

You can also try tuxracer. If it works, your opengl is probably OK and it is a bug in the game. If not, it\'s your system what is broken.

But on fast machines tuxracer coud possibly work without acceleration. Never saw that, though.
