I am just wandering with all these problems, when will they be all fixed so we mac users can play. I just downloaded the game and when i go to the client or updates, the thing crashes and says this and this has unexpectedly quit. I just found out that it was a bug in the game not letting me update or get to log in screen. Will we mac users have to wait for a version 3.010 or the ones we downloaded allready be good enough when they fixed everything.

If you have sucessfully downloaded 3.009, then you can check out
the themes under Updater and Updater??? and you will find that you need to DL chaos\'s Updater which will get you 3.010 and after that use the updater that comes with the 3.010. Otherwise where you DL
3.009 that will be replaced with 3.010 some day. There is only one
Mac expert, dfryer who did it in the first place for Mac users. There are
a few who are trying to being to help but they have not been able to get
a working Mac offline to function as it should. javascript:smilie(\':(\')

Remember, the binaries aren\'t up yet, so you should NOT update until you see a post telling you that they are.

If he\'s like all the beginners that posts just because it don\'t work and without reading, he can\'t remember, because he didn\'t read it before.

That is such a loaded statment. The only newbies that you see are the ones that post. This doesn\'t mean that newbies that read before posting don\'t exist. I\'m actually an example of that. I haven\'t had a chance to play the game yet but I see enough newbie bashing here that I\'m wondering if it\'s worth getting involved in the community.
There\'s a difference between linking to a thread where the question is answered and harping on it and saying all newbies don\'t take the time to read anything.

As a newbie that does read before I post, I must say that it\'s extremely annoying to have 10 people asking the same question over and over again. It\'s definitely ok to ask a question if either the answer is not available within a simple search or if the question haven\'t been answered before, but asking before that is just plain laziness or ignorance. So, if you\'re a n00b (like me), don\'t be afraid, just do a simple search before you ask and everyone will be happy.
Maybe someone should post a sticky thread that says \"PLEASE READ OTHER THREADS BEFORE YOU POST!\".

I have not played the game yet either. I think the confusion is stemming from the fact that there is no bold, stickied post that says \"The game does not work right now. Please wait for an update.\"
-
I agree. Read first as I did. I agree, it\'s annoying. But when trying to build a community the people involved need to take into account how new players feel when they first come in. It\'s a fine line between making a newbie know that they should read before posting and making them feel like they aren\'t wanted here unless they know everything. Please notice that I\'m talking about how they feel, not the intention of the poster.
I\'m part of another community that does this very well by having the moderators jump on any post that is answered someplace else, locking it, explaining to the user where it can be found. We do still see people post without searching but very, very few people do it more than once.
One of the things they did was to make a FAQ sticky with a list of all the commonly asked questions and it says in the name to read before asking questions. It\'s not perfect but it works fairly well.

i am still wandering, when the new version is here will i have to update, if i have to my updater is not working anyways. the updater quits on me saying the updater has unexpectedly quit. then on the bottom it says would u like to send a bug report. that means that the updater has a bug. can they fix this without some people downloading the new version.
-
Yes, all of what you say is important. If you do not mind, I think I will consider sending your message and my comments in a petition to the moderators.
the following is from the download section of http://www.planeshift.it:
\"Mac OSX
Please notice there are few known problems in the current distro:
- the updater is not working
- sounds are not working
Mac OSX Client (231.087.041 bytes):
Mirror 1: PlaneShift_CBV0.3.009_mac.dmg
Mirror 2: PlaneShift_CBV0.3.009_mac.dmg\"
In one of my messages i pointed out that under the current situation at the page under http://www.planeshift.it in the download section all it shows is the 3.009 version which really gets you nowhere.
What do you think of suggesting that as soon as they start working on a new version of PS that they should delete the lines at Mirror 1 and 2
and replace it with a message such as: URGENT: Planeshift downloards will not work until a new version becomes available!
Also anyone new to Planeshift needs to go to the forums under MacOSX Specific Issues and read the first three threads especially the \"A Guide to Running PlaneShift on Mac OS X.\"
Furthermore Perhaps there should be set up a new thread entitled Newbies. Actually I could do that myself but it could get important status recognizition. :D

I just posted one with questions about updates and problems... I have to say I have spent the whole day reading the FAQ\'s and all the help sections, unfortunately one of the last posts i saw was the one explaining that an update has to be waited for. I guess I\'m just another lost newbie... *sigh*
-
the staff should of written out on the download not to download until the newer version is complete and has no problems. I just hate the fact that they wait for people with macs to dowload and then tell everybody that the mac users cant play. man what a waste of mb.
-
Hrmm... As soon as Moogie or Kiva or Dfryer comes online I\'m gonna talk to them about setting up a stickied thread for this.

yes dealing with PS is a very frustrating endeavor! Hopefully the new version will be a great improvement over the old. It is too bad that the old could not be used until the new comes online. It had its bugs and I am sure the new version will have also have it bugs but at least I was getting somewhere.
Another theme which you may have heard about is the coming wipe of all characters and so you must know it is coming and all you do now will be a learning of PS for future gain.

It took me a while to find the posts about it being down too. Unfortunatley I didn\'t find it until after trying to update and failing, \"successfully\" updating and then not being able to open the client. Such is life. I just hope they get the updater working so I don\'t need to download the whole thing again.

While I agree that coordination between Talad and I could be better, the new binaries *are* currently available but are only accessible via Cha0ses java updater.
After running that updater, you will need to change the permissions on the application files, since the permission bits get eaten somewhere in the process.
