Title: Spell Combinations
Post by: leuxast on May 29, 2005, 06:43:08 am
Simple question. Are there any spell combinations? If so what glyphs do they use and what spells of what way do they produce.

PS. I hope this is in the right forum. I was tossing up between here and newbie help.

As far as I know, there are not yet any combo spells.  The system is still fairly simple.

If it\'s not the right place someone will move it to the correct one :P

Anyway, we\'ll be bale to make spells by combining glyphs in the future.
Spells that use 1 glyph are Realm 1 spells (pretty basic and easy spells), Spells that use 2 glyphs are Realm 2 glyphs and so on...
You can only know the combination by reading it in a book or try it yourself, a friend may tell you how to do it too :)
I think some combinations will be pretty obvious, you just have to try... For example, in the history of the cvs there\'s a sentence: \"Summon Creature, uses Summon and Creature Glyphs\" You combine the Glyph Summon + Tree and you\'ll summon a tree that\'ll guard you :P
I think we\'ll be able to combine glyphs pretty soon.

I hope so too, but i also hope that when this happen, some people won\'t start like crazy writing down at different sites and here at forum the combinations.

Also bear in mind that discovering the various spells is the fun of it, so asking others to just tell you all the glyph combinations is wrong.

That\'s not necessarily true, Phinehas. When you\'re out of character, you should never ask others for glyph combos, but in character, as part of a guild, or when talking to a good friend, it makes perfect sense. Most mages share basic spells with each other. And masters always teach them to their apprentices. If people didn\'t help each other learn glyph combos, magic would barely evolve at all.

Cool thanks guys. I wasn\'t so much asking what the glyph combinations were as if you could combine them.
In my shortcut window (as a default shortcut) there is the spell Fire Bolt. I thought this must be some combination ie. Arrow + Fire = Fire Bolt.
Thanks anyway.

The odd thing is that it looks like there should already be more spells.  If you take a look in the spell effects directory (data\\effects\\spells), there are quite allot of other spells.  It lists all kinds of stuff like choking gas, sleep, healing, and even meteor.  So, obviously they\'ve been working on this stuff for a while, but just haven\'t finished it enough to enable it.  Hopefully we\'ll see the results soon.   :)

First of all, he asked OOC. Second of all, I know of maybe two mages that I would trust to RP the correct amount of discretion.

Perhaps a good way to share things like this are for the powerful mages to choose a few apprentices to help learn.  Thus they could choose at their discretion who they shared such spell combo\'s with, and such.  They could also stifle the newer mages attempts to jump straight to complex spells without learning the simpler ones first.  Instead of teaching them the summon tree friend thingy they could tell them to practice their crystal way skills with summon arrow spell first.  Once it reaches level 10, then help them learn a new spell.  Set goals for them to acheive before helping them to the next levels.  Teach to fish instead of giving a fish. They\'ll learn more aspects of PS and RP that way.

Hey I just thought of another thing. Pre CB there was that news item with the screenshots right? With the caption saying\"This is an advanced healing spell that you will only find after hours of testing\". Just makes me think........

Actually the sarcasm wasn\'t pre-meditated. It was just meant to be a plug for the still-not-yet-open AoM. :P

\"If you take a look in the spell effects directory (data\\effects\\spells)\" --DaveG

How do you look in the \'directory.\'  Where is it?

A \"directory\" is a folder on a computer. Like C:\\Program Files\\  is one (just an example). He means a directory in your planeshift game folder.

Two possibilities:
1)  You\'re looking in the shortcuts folder in your start menu.  Goto the game\'s program folder (usually under \"Program Files in Windows).
2)  You are looking in the right place, but you have some kind of psychotic option or program hiding it designed to \"help\" (but really hurts) computer newbies.  Find this and turn it off immediately.
