I have SurfSideKick 3 on my machine.
As far as I know it is impossible to remove.. Ad-aware SE wont get rid of it.
neither will Spybot S&D they both remove it but it is back again within a few minutes...
It doesnt really cause any noticeable problems.. but i would like to remove it.
I tried deleting the registry values it left, and they come back as well.. It has a folder in my programs. and i cannot delete it because itas running a process.. I cant find the process its runnning..
Can anyone help me remove this without having to reformat?
Ive done some research on it without luck.. perhaps you can find something?

format c: gets rid of any windows problem. but, http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.surfsidekick.html may serve a bit better. dug it up by googling SurfSideKick +remove

Try setting the computer on fire, the bad thingy might get burnt and run. :P

Ever visited the (user friendly) Hijack This! (http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/) website? They might be able to help.
I think this thread (http://forums.techguy.org/archive/t-367463.html) might help your specific problem.
Spyware is teh evilness :(

Well if you\'re not going to do anything, how do you expect to get rid of it? :P
It\'s like the Windows Help feature. People go through the whole troubleshooting section picking the option for \"I want to try something else\" every time, and then complain when they come to the end where it tells them \"we were unable to find a solution for you\". XD

Err, Moogie, there is a distinctive difference between not bothering to try a suggested solution and not wanting / being able to just buy some software...
I think it comes back because it is in the windows backup database, so you should disable System Restore before doing anything else.
I\'m not sure if the process can actually be hidden from the WXP task manager. It may not show up as task, but it should as process. Obviously, it will have a different name, so you should just kill all processes that you don\'t know belong to windows itself.
At least that is what I would try in your case.
Edit: maybe try this:
http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/surfsidekick/index.phtml
Or maybe this:

(Requiring a program called \"HJT\", porobably HiJackThis (http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/))

install a good firewall
uninstall
if it keep on installing
look in your regedit and search for the name of the program
erase it
look in the start menu : is there any program like that in the start up seciton (i dunno the real english word of this directory... in french release of windows: \"d?marrage\")
erase it
it continue to insall it on your computer?
say you dont want DirectX to run under your computer
scan your computer with a good antivirus (clamwin for example)
erase it
if it keep on running on your computer
-> format everything
if it keep on running on your computer
-> format everything with a magnet
if it keep on running on your computer and if the computer keep on running
-> give it to the science or burn it if you are sure its a threat for the humanity

Ive solved the problem for myself...
First I looked up what the reg keys it added where., then I booted in safemode.. because i dont know what processes it runs.. I deleted its folder.. and removed the keys it added. I restarted in normal mode. scanned with ad-aware and spybot. removed any leftover traces.. and it hasnt come back yet.. so i think im all good..
Thanks for making me frustrated enough take matters into my own hands than to use stupid scanners. =P
