On my version of planeshift the dungeons are pitch black the small green area where people mine is pitch black and some areas in side the red temple are can you believe it! black.
Ive tried relighting through the terminal and it worked for me but as soon as i close planeshift when it logs on and close the terminal, then load planshift back up again the areas are once again pitch black!!!
Ive tried searching the forums for advice but nothing has came up that might be of use.
If anyone can help I will be most gratefull.

Surely someone has come up with a smiliar incident?

Indeed they have. Use the search button please.

It\'s surprising that the problem comes back after relighting, quitting, and restarting though. Seems to me that the lightmap caching is somehow faulty.
-
Well, I really know hardly anything about how it works, but would\'nt a lighting problem mean that the entire area is dark? Because for me, in the dungeon for example, there are objects and walls and floor that are completely black, whereas there are some things that are appearing normally as if the lighting is working fine. The lack of anything on those black areas seems to me that textures are not loading...
I really don\'t know, but none of the relighting has had any effect, even if I relight the dungeons (don\'t quit) and am just there. It\'s still black except for a few things like rocks and the creatures that dwell there.

I was (am) in the dungeons and it was pitch black and I commented to the other players to this effect. And they said they had no problems at the time. But another did have the same problem. I said it was probably a Mac bug.
I said I even set it on maximum brightness and it only improves it slightly. And the player said that brightness just makes the blackness blacker. He said that contrast is another factor that brings out the other colors too.
So I Went into displays several times until I decide to redo my Imac PS mode which is set at maximum brightness. When I got to the contrast options, I finagled around all of a sudden my screen improved greatly. I could distinctly see myself (I play in 3rd postion) and the rugs and other players became very clear to me. :D

Run it with -fullbright either by using PSClientCMD.jar (available in The Guide) or by running it from Terminal with the command.

Well, I stuck it in PSClientCMDlist.rft
Under: Options for Crystal Space 3D Engine:
-fullbright Enable full brightness
Is this permissible?
-
No, read the guide carefully. It needs to be a .txt file, the contents of which should be only the command, i.e. just \"-fullbright\" and nothing else.

Hello there,
The following worked for me:
./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient -fullbright
including the period at the beginning.
-
Yes, that\'s what PSClientCMD.jar does. It just lets you launch Planeshift with a command that you use often from a double-click (you could alternatively make a bash script to do this for you).

actually I put it in as -fullbright[12 spaces]Enable full brightness
Also when I tried to but PSClientCMDlist.txt in, it said I had to use \".rft\"
Anyway right now my graphics has improved immensely after doing this and some other things which may or may not be the cause of the improvement.
When walking from the Tunnel near Oja and the junction near the Magic Shop, it used to be pitch black. Now the path is light brown and the sides green.
I also went into pssetup.cfg and put or made sure there was a ; before the 3 lines that has \"isoundloade\" and the one line which as \"isoundleader\"
actually DaveG suggest this in May 2005
\"Putting the correct vfs.dll in WILL fix this issue. If you still crash something for one reason or another, it\'s a separate problem. If your setup is crashing, try editing pssetup.cfg in notepad or your favorite text editor. Stick a semicolon ( ; ) in front of every line with the word \"sound\" in it, save, and try to load it again. (you\'ll still need a working vfs.dll, first)\"
Also I went into data/Config/ and edited sound.cfg to set the value of
sound.WaveOut.Refresh to 5 (original value to 20) This was originally suggested in a message (they changed it to 10) back May 2002.
In addition I got full screen after I went into Planeshift.cfg, Pssetup.cfg and psupdater and changed the width, height and depth to 1440, 900 and 32 respectively.
The Death realms spiral staircase is still pitch dark but everywhere else seems light and brighter in DR. And the Dungeons is brighter for me.
Also I have bumped into walls, etc. and not crashed lately.
Also my pssetup still does not work.

Yes, this would work, since the game would ignore all the other stuff. But you shouldn\'t do it like that. Just the command works fine.

This won\'t work; I guarantee it. Read the guide more carefully. It tells you how to do this correctly.
Also my pssetup still does not work.
... How many times do I need to say, it is broken and we know why and we know how to fix it. However, dfryer hasn\'t had the time and a fix has already been posted elsewhere for those who really need it.

It seems that the problem of dark patches for mac (and apparently amd64) users in the death realm and elsewhere (random bits of staircase, pipes, etc) has been fixed in the latest version of Crystalspace, so once we change which version of Crystalspace we use (in the next month or two) this problem will be gone.
