Hello,
I want to start to train light armor skill.
I\'m level 0 in it.
I\'ve got theorical knowledge to reach level one but...
I can\'t practice it!
I\'m wearing leather torso, arms, pants, gloves and boots;
I follow instructions gived by other player... I fight against rats, clackers, tefs, rogues, trepor and others with and without weapons a died many times but never, never receive any practice point.
At a moment I think that skill was unavaiable but players tells me that it was ok! I don\'t understand...
I request your help!
-
First, armour does nothing yet.
Second, is your light armour bar 100% green?
-
First A lot of player tells me that light armour skill is very usefull (you\'re talking about armour itself maybe?)
Second: Yez it is (the yellow is now full green)... I trained hard and paid a lot of money to be teached enough in light armour.
-
Whenever a creature attacks you and you dodge, you\'ll gain practice points in light armour.
When it happens enough times, you\'ll advance a level.
-
Yes but it never happens.....
And I tried again and again and again... maybe I can\'t dodge not skilful enough.... a vicious circle!
-
Is it supposed to notify you that you have gained practice points like in other skills, or does it just silently advance?
I had trained my Light Armor skill fully and it has never moved an inch. I never received any notification that I had gained practice points, and in the training menu the bar seems to be just as advanced as the first (and last) time I trained it (about a month ago).
I have never increased a Light Armor level since I fully trained it, and shortly after I spent Tria on the skill, I was even told by another user that it was not implemented yet. This was in 0.3.009.
With news that others have trained their Light Armor skill, I am surprised. I have tried what had been suggested in another thread and attempted to buy more training in the skill, even though the bar was as full as possibe (i.e. You cannot train this skill any further). That also yeilded no results and it still remains stuck at level 0.
My character has leather gloves and leather boots equipped, so I am not sure if these count as liight \"armor,\" but it had also been stated in another thread that even skin counts as light armor. I see no difference in damage delt whether I wear the boots and gloves or not, and either way I have never received practice from being hit by my opponents.
I just figured that the Light Armor skill had not been implemented, but now I realize that this might be some kind of error. Plenty of people who can train this skill normally seem to think that it is not something to worry about, but I most certainly have taken all of the steps that have been suggested with no results.
I don\'t particularly care whether or not my armor is useful, but I do care that this may actually be a bug.

That\'s it, maidenindigo! +1
Your English seems better than mine... it helps to explain!
-
Maybe it\'s a bug, because i once trained light armour skill (now i\'m not able to do it anymore because Harnquist doesn\'t teach anymore) but i remember that i gained practice when at the sewers i was attacked by a great amount of rats and I wasn\'t defending.
Maybe you should try to attack, stop the attack and let the opponent hit you in order to rank up? If so, it\'s weird or maybe they\'ve changed something and we are in front of a new bug.

This has also been suggested by many other players, and as my post says...Originally posted by MaidenIndigo

edit: And after attaining a high enough level in a skill, you have to find \"the next\" trainer. Harnquist can only train you so much, I believe. That is probably why you are unable to advance further.

Then it\'s maybe a new bug.
After all, updates can bring up bugs where they weren\'t before (see those misterious arm or head dissapearings...)
As for the light armour, no thanks i really don\'t want to train this skill any further.
-
I haven\'t had any problems training in this skill myself, so it\'s unfortunate to hear that there may be a bug associated with it, for others. As for Harnquist, I believe he only trains the skill to a 10, as does Brado in Ojaveda. Not sure if there is another trainer who would take over after those two, yet.

Looks like if the new update with fixed combat stances wont come fast, we will have several topics on each forum describing the same thing.
Check this topic : http://planeshift.oodlz.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16973&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=996b9b595aacd08348b4f6ae2dad30f6&page=1#3
and you might find the answer^^

You can sometimes fix this by attempting to purchase more points. It won\'t let you (if you\'ve actually bought the full green bar), but it may clear up the glitch.
It\'s so nice to know when people take the time to read my posts.
I also stated that I had trained this fully about a month ago - when defensive stances worked correctly. Even using defensive stances, I made no gains in the Light Armor skill.
edit: I can only hope folks like me are missing something really obvious and this isn\'t a real bug. Seytra has said before that training Light Armor was working fine now, so I\'m not so sure it\'s completely correlated with the stance issue.

If there\'s supposed to be no bug at all, but so many people is complaining they aren\'t training the skill while recieving damage, there\'s something that\'s wrong.
Perhaps something was messed with the updates and there\'s a need to reset the skill to 0 (0 knowdledge) but i don\'t know if this is possible to achieve.
Btw we DO read your posts Nikodemus (lol :P )
And this is not the first time that Harnquists sells aren\'t fair at all... We should claim for a money back guarantee thing.

I think that I know where the problem is!
To improve the light armour skill you NEED to dodge not only be hitting by monster!
But to dodge you need to have agilty!
Not enough agility... no dodging... no dodging... no skill increase!!!!!
Not sure it\'s logic!!!!
I\'ve got 52 in agility and I NEVER dodge in my life!!!
-
That\'s it!
I bought a point in agility and now I dodge once and gain a practice in light armour (not yet a level!)
This is the tips of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Arkith, I hate to break it to you, but I have level 99 Agility, so I frequently dodge enemy blows. ^_^;
That doesn\'t change the fact that my Light Armor skill is stuck. This may work for other people, though. I\'m glad you solved your problem! :)
~Indi
-
Maidenindigo have you tried to train your agility skill?
Maybe wa have to do once before being able to increase armour skills....
-
Erm, how do you think I got to level 99? ^_^;

-_-;
he means train it again. Maybe training one level up is the way to unlock from the loop that keeps you from gaining practice!!
-
Simply attack the creature.. and STOP attacking.
Stand there and take hits (I would go for rats)
You will gain practice points when you dodge.
And yes, light armour does help :P
-
There IS a light armor glitch. For certain people, it\'ll just not advance. If you try buying it again, even though it won\'t let you, it seems to fix it.
Beyond that, just let a rat hit you for a while. Sometimes it can just take a bit. It seems to me that you might advance faster at higher levels. (You \"use\" the skill more if you have more of it, maybe?)
-
The best way to train light armor is to take a defensive stance. I just went to the arena [hint, hint] and let rogues pound on me in full defensive mode. I got my light armor up to lvl 20 that way.
-
Mordaan, I thought stances still weren\'t working?
-
They were working last time I checked, but I haven\'t been around much lately. That was a few weeks ago. Stances aren\'t working since version 10?
Sorry, that\'s what happens when you are out of touch. :P
--edit: yep, yep. Didn\'t know about the stances thing. Well once they are working again my advice will be valid. ;)
-
mine advances just fine. just take the advise mentioned above to dodge rats.
-
I cant train LA anymore, stop at 10.

Doesnt help me.

Have anyone find a other trainer yet (is there one)?
And yes I have all the stats and skill I need to train it.
-
I\'m pretty sure that\'s something intended for you to discover. There\'s a whole world out there to go and explore.
I can tell you though that there are trainers which train only to a certain level, and for some skills, there are other trainers which will train you higher.

Harnquist still has it listed in his trainable skills, though i\'ve never actually tried.

Thanks your answer is good enough for me.
Now I know that Im not waisting my time serching for a trainer.

It\'s a little strange to me that we don\'t even have an adequate understanding of what the skill is, much less how it works, and where we should be concentrating our efforts to expand it. Is light armor somehow a skill you learn from someone, about how to wear armor? Because, if this game is trying to be realistic, there is no such analog in the real world. Beyond learning shield handling, and how to avoid chafing in your groin, wearing armor is an entirely passive affair, involving only the money and equipment to \"succeed\" at.
Making the armor in the first place is where the skill resides. Is there some countervailing theory someone has come up with that is convincing to everyone?
-
The Light Armor skill is named a bit oddly, but it only helps in dodging attacks.
-
It does give a resistance to damage, just not enough to make much of a difference.

Tsk, tsk.
DaveG and Karyuu? I am surprised. You should know this one.
You have been staring at forum posts too long, perhaps...
Well, since you asked, BlackAcre, here you go. :)
Basically all armor systems, especially medieval styles, have holes and weak spots in them.
In combat, each combatant tries to hit the weak spots, and to protect their own.
Learning how and where to take a blow, in order to survive it, is a trained skill, and is not the same as simply dodging.
Dodging while wearing armor, also requires training, because the weight and bulk of the armor changes balance, and speed.
It is also clear that these are facts, and not a theory.
No convincing will be necessary.

[ Sometimes others, like you, can explain far better than I could attempt ;) ]

Which is why it needs to be renamed to dodging.

Training Agility should do just that. And does a bit right now, I believe. Some of these overlap in perplexing ways.

Not to be contrite, but is there a source you\'ve taken these facts from? I\'m just unsure there\'s an analog that isn\'t somewhat fantastic we\'re thinking of. It seems to me that learning to use weapons is really what you\'re talking about, not using armor.
