Title: PlaneShift_CBV0.3.010 wont delete from my desktop
Post by: Reguile on June 07, 2005, 11:25:00 pm
It says it is being used by another program or person , close any programs that might be running this. I am unable to delete it, and it\'s really annoying, can anyone help me? Like give good advice that works?

Check in the file\'s properties to see if it\'s write-protected for some reason.  If that doesn\'t work, something stupid is going on.  Reboot, then smash F8 allot until you get the boot menu.  (assuming you\'re running Windows)  Choose safe mode, then go in and delete it there.

Do you mean safe mode, itself, didn\'t work, or that it wouldn\'t delete in safe mode?

Did you check for read-only status in the file\'s properties?

yes, its not checked. I tried deleting it. I checked it, and still couldn\'t delete it, either way.

Hold on a sec....

EDIT:

Ok try this:
Reboot and smash F8 till you get the boot menu.  Choose \"Safe Mode with Command Prompt\".  It will load up the GUI into a command window.  Try deleting it from there.

I don\'t know if you know MS-DOS, so here\'s what to do:
You\'ll be dropped in your user directory.  You said the file is on your desktop, so type \"cd Desktop\".  Then type \"dir\" to show the list of files there.  Finally type \"del name\" to delete the file.  (make sure you type the correct name exactly; if it has any spaces in it, put quotes around the name)

If this doesn\'t work..... something is REALLY FUBARed.  Reply back and I can give another suggestion.

Please don\'t double post.  Use the edit button.

You can type \"cmd\" at the run menu, but that won\'t help.  The reason I wanted you to try the command mode was to get as much as possible to not load.  You probably chose the wrong option in the boot menu.  Try it again and make sure to hit down twice to select the command prompt option.

Something really screwy is going on, because this should NOT be happening.   ?(   The foolproof method is to use a boot disk and delete it from there.  Of course, you\'ll need something to read NTFS.  Hold on while I see if I can find the thing...

EDIT 1:
Ok, nevermind on that.  You got it working.  (Posted while I was typing this.)   :P

EDIT 2:
Now.. I see you\'ve gone and tripple posted...
Yay for the edit button!
