New persons come up to me and challenge me without saying anything. They also come up to me and invite me into their guild without introducing themselves or their guild.
Is it bad that I then proceed to kill them for it?

These sort of things happen a bit too often for my taste. I also get group invitations from perfect strangers.
The question I ask myself is not if I should kill them but if I should report them. Should I?

In my opinion it isnt, but u just cant ;)
Those \"players\" always existed and always will exist, u cant do anything to prevent that, except go to the control pannel and then seek for an option that allow u to refuse every invite from other players.

I am calling it runescapism (sic!), well as Ashamn told they exists and we have
to learn to live with them. In my opinion you can\'t enforce Role Playing, but you
may still encourage it. Those people are usually like 13-16 years old
children, so you may always try to explain them what the Role Playing is and
why it is worth to do.
Regards.

if people callenge you out of the blue i think you should kill them if you can, teach them a lesson. or like Platyna said, explain them stuff.

I\'m hoping the Planeshift will become like the Neverwinter Nights server I play on. To level up takes roughly 1000 XP at level 1. Killable creatures (for level 1 characters) give between 1 and 5 XP. Quests on the other hand give about 200 XP or so and DM-run events give similar amounts. Simply going out and killing things doesn\'t get you anything. RPing and participating in quests gets you XP rewards (DMs sometimes give random awards for good RP). If Planeshift becomes like this, then I\'ll be online a lot more often. :)

I think quests should be worthwhile, but I think that there needs to be ballance. At the same time, I think that there needs to be a way to advance using ONLY PROGRESSION POINTS. There are people who are self taught in this world, you know. However - advancing using only progression points would be a much slower process.
