Well, at the first place people has to be fanatics to use FreeBSD for home
purposes. ;) Anyway I am thinking about making the installer for FBSD (if it will
be possible) when I will get a capable machine. I tried once to compile it but
had problems.

Regards.

You mean you can\'t just compile PS and all the dependencies from CVS like you can for linux?  I find this strange, any idea why not?

I remember I had some compilation errors. Anyway it was quite a while ago.
So, as I told, I am planning to try again when I will have a possibility.

Regards.

Maybe she can\'t compile PS and all the dependencies from CVS like I can\'t for Linux :)

Planeshift and CS are picky about what compiler one uses.

and what about a solaris and a unix release ?  :D  :D  :D

FreeBSD release looks strange because in my mind freeBSD is for server use...

Platyna... I guess you had permission issues under freeBSD to compile  PS  :D ... personaly my PS/2 mouse wasnt recognized under freeBSD -> no installation possible... but i know the permission under freeBSD are... amazingly paranoiac

freebsd can be used on workstations, too. the new 5.x releases are very good for normal users. the point is, that freebsd doesnt use the gnu compiler so some  code might not work even with the elf linux compatible layer.
has someone tried to compile PS on freebsd?

PS: i prefer the bsd licence to GPL

The GNU compiler and the WACOM compiler are available for freebsd.

Hm, that\'s a good point.  I\'d forgotten that it took me about six months (with a lot of having given up down time) befofe I sucessfully compiled PS.  In the end, there were only two problems: The gentoo build guide didn\'t yet suggest using the -D option and a good build date, so I was just grabbing the latest unstable code; and my system had trouble finding the opengl libraries.  To fix this, all I had to do was opengl-update xorg-x11.  Then I switched back to nvidia for better rendering, and this time CS and PS found the libraries fine and it built.  Two simple things that it took me half a year to discover.

FBSD has permissions like any other UNIX system. That\'s not the issue.
Anyway recently I have successfully compiled PS on FBSD 5.0.3, if there would
be a high demand for it, I can prepare installer for FBSD, anyway this one will
not work on FBSD 4.x.

Regards.
