Has anyone here read the A Game of Thrones series.  I would have to say they are the best fantasy books that I have ever read.  Its by George R. R. Martin.

Terry Brooks. It\'s rather long, but very good. One of the things I like best about it is that you can see his writing skills progress. The first book is downright boring, but by the time you get to the last trilogy, you can\'t set \'em down!

Hmm.. next time I go to borders or Hasteings Ill have to check it out.  

A game of Thrones is also quite long.  There are three books out so far and they are about 900 to 1200 pages.  I like the way it is set up.  Instead of chapters he writes sections of first person accounts.

I like shannara as well. I\'m reading Raymond E Feist\'s books atm, which are very good.

Aaaaa...  I wasnt really sure what the series was called and the person who refered it to me said A game of Thrones, which is the name of the first book.  Thanks

My personal favorite is still the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I think he \'s down to 9 books of around 800 pages each now with one or two \'extras\' loosely related to the main storyline.

I \'m going to see if I can find the others suggested here though, lets hope they are internationally available.

The \'A song of ice and fire\' series is awesome.  I would definatly recommend it.  The first book is called A Game of Thrones.  I usually dont read fantasy books.... but this one really got me.

Don\'t forget Ursula K LeGuine\'s Earthsea trilogy and its\' sequel.

Edit: You have to call Tehana\'s Story a sequel to trilogy as it was written 15 to 20 years later than the others in her mature style and shows her strong feminist beliefs. Fortunately it does not suffer from this, unlike most of her modern work.

I have nothing against Feminist scifi and fantasy, I just think in a lot of cases the politics gets in the way of the story - instead of driving it, or being the background to it.
