well, i got a little bored from gaming and 3d so i made this:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/gnomkiller/reddesert.jpg
clouds sucks badly, i\'ll need to tweak that.
might not fit perfectly in the ps world, but it it isn\'t based on real stuff.
i made it with terragen, that program creates 3d world renders based on your 2d shaped map(like height)
it\'s not a perfect program, cause you can\'t add vegitation, thats why it\'s best suited for scenes like this.
-
Oh man, of all the threads to ever catch my eye, the word \'desert\' is the key to them all :P
Lovely lovely. Can you create sand as well?
-
yes, ill keep on posting renders here.
and, here comes the big one: The program is free! it\'s only 1 mb i believe, just search for \'terragen\' with google, and it\'s one from the first sites!
THANKS! btw :D
-
Terragen is a great program. I used to do TA (http://www.tauniverse.com) mapping with it. Ah the joys of waiting 4 hours for my 16000x16000 texture to render.
:emerald:
-
is that a game??
and, can you also import 3d models of landscapes, or export? cause i don\'t know that much about it and the results are very good for about 30 mins of tweaking.
-
Thats actually pretty good..thought the clouds are kinda messing up the picture a bit..
-
Just wow. That\'s awesome, keep up the good work. I\'d love to see a temperate rainforest of that quality if you\'re up for suggestions of another one to do but I guess you couldn\'t do it with terragen (no trees).
Yeah, anyways, wow. Good Job!!!

er....
wow! all these sorts of things to me are really impressive (i have no clue how people achieve them) so great work.
-
Well, with terragen, you achieve it by setting a few variables and then clicking \'render\'. :) I used it once, way back when, created a lake with a mountain range in the background. None of it was modelled or textured by me, it\'s all done with a random algorythm in the program, so I wouldn\'t really call it \'great work\'.
-
/me sticks with his great work...

I know, I know.
Good work Terragen. And very nice variable setting rosmerelmer! :)
-
hehe, thats the hard part of the program :P
and yes, the clouds are messing up the picture, i dunno what happened to them
next project: morning in the mountains. i already had something like it but the textures were bad, and when i changed things they only got worse :s.
-
well, it became \'evening in the alpes\' and here it is!!::

am i gonna get blamed by bumping this post??
next project will be: desert, a very very dry desert with almost no rocks, just sand everywere.
i present you:
desert at night!

sorry for doubleposting.

tell me what you think!
really really really sorry for doubleposting! but i just needed to share this with the community

I still think scenes created with that program are beautiful, no matter how easy or difficult the creation may be. Very cool. The latest image makes me think of Scandinavia. Mmmmmmm.
*tugs on Rosmerelmer\'s shirt* Can you make sand dunes? :>
-
already did, you should look better! :D
but i don\'t think that one turned out great. everybody may distribute
and use these pictures. as long as you dont say you made them yourself
-
Terragen uses heightmaps.. so does CS
Terragen uses texture mapping perhaps?.. so does CS.
With a little cheapier lightning, and perhaps not-full-so-good water (Allthough you can run watertest and see some nice water indeed) that could be possible in a quite close future.
I for one would really like to hunt teffus in those snowy mountains or swim in the icy water to explore the sunken cave and die of cold or whatever
-
i bet you could die in the cold there, it looks frozen!
about what moogie said: my new pic is exactly the same.

*grins* If you\'re referring to the desert-at-night image, it doesn\'t -quite- have the appearance of sand dunes. The formations still resemble rocky mounds. Sand dunes have more... \"swiiiish\" and \"swooop\" and and and... ^^ Like so (http://www.stanford.edu/~venkats/other_photos/cracks%20in%20the%20broader%20frame/sand%20dunes%20telephoto.JPG).
-
i tried so, but i dont have any texture plugins for terragen, and the \'heightpainting\'isnt that detailed.
but if i can make crystal space maps for planeshift with terragen, with the use of heightpainting, that would be cool!
-
You\'ve been doin some nice ones. I like the one with the frozen water thingy. Thought I\'d try this: http://img312.imageshack.us/img312/1628/tallgreymtns17nl.jpg
now how does one get water in here? :P
Yeah I know karyuu, \"If Robin could do that, I shure as hell could do sand dunes\" -__-
-
I\'m not demanding, really xD;
Those are awesome clouds, Robin. How does the program work, really? Does it render the 2D image alone, or can you import the 3D landscape into another program afterwards, to add to or tweak?
-
i found a terragen to blender script but it didnt work..
i guess it was to old (2001)
but robinmagus: if you need your water, than you go to water tab and raise the level, just high as you like it. i\'m sure you could also use textures on the terrain :D
this tutorial is very helpful: http://individual.utoronto.ca/edegiuli/TGtut/TerragenTutLandscape.htm
