this might belong in technical help, but I\'m not asking for help, so i think it goes best here.
The server has been going down a lot lately. This is not a problem. The weird thing is that whenever it goes down, a certain player stays on. When we come back, he keeps saying that everyone else went away. Right now I cannot ping the server, and the web page at laanx.fragnetics.com lists him as being the only player online. Any idea how this is possible?
-
Yeah, I just saw a guy named Hart on. My guess is he\'s the dev fixing it.
-
No, actually, I know him he\'s just a player. He always asks where everyone went whenever I can\'t ping the server.
-
... odd
-
maybe he is just stucked, like with glue and stuff. or he stepped on chewing gum...

I think you can set the time before your client decides that a linkdeath (if that\'s a word) has occured with this value in psclient.cfg
Planeshift.Client.User.Persisttimeout = 10
The number behind the = sign is in seconds. If you set that to an astronimically high value, say 300 seconds (if that value is even allowed), his client might survive a server crash if the server comes up again within 5 minutes.
If you see the guy next time, ask him if he could talk to NPCs or if he himself saw anything he said in the chat box. If not, the server was down. If he did, it\'s still nothing but weird. :)
-
Good thought, I\'ll ask him as soon as the server comes back up. I checked again and he\'s still on, which means he\'s been the only one on for about fifteen minutes.
-
/me hopes it\'s time for the prophecised \"big update\"...

Drey... Drey.... ts
You always manage to cast a smile on my face
and yeah dunno how long you have it but congratz for the Game-Master title

Thats very interesting, though im not sure if it would work.. when the server comes back online wouldn\'t you have to re-connect? Im not really sure, it could work, but im inclined to think it wouldn\'t.

Crap. Stop spamming. You made me delete this post by Pestilence by accident:
hmmm that is strange indeed. Perhaps he lives very near the server or something and doesn\'t lose connection as fast as the rest of us? Doubtfull but it has been known to happen that certain areas of people kept being kicked out when apparently a connection between the server and that area had a bug in it or something.
Sorry. Only realised it after my fingers clicked \"delete post\" for like the 7th time in a row.

Doh .. you are right of course. Had I asked myself the question \'How should the restarted server know that the client is still there?\' I would have come to that conclusion too. :-/
Morale: Never post before you have actually woken up. :D

No, just means that Drey has led you astray a lot. It did seem like fun at the time, though.

Demarthl: You\'re right. The original question has been answered. This thread has served its purpose. So why can\'t we use it for fun now?
