Title: about ouzo

i was drinking ouzo as i worked though a major birthday in my life when i actually looked at the stuff.

to pours clear. but, when it goes over the ice it gets all foggy. almost exactly like that lemon and rum stuff, you know bicardi(sp) makes it, you can get in a 12 fl oz(355 ml) bottle. what\'s up with that?

and then if you leave it too long with the ice. i know, good ouzo, what am i doing leaving it? it looks like it is curdling or, if i remember my high school chemistry, precipitating something out of solution (i\'m not sure i could actually say that right now, if i could it is only because i am an engineer, chp rulez!)

can anybody shed a bit of light on this? i still eat mcd\'s food after having seen \"super size me\", neat movie by the way. so don\'t worry about turning me off the stuff. i like the lickorse... licor... black twizlers flavor of the it.

My dad has that all the time. It\'s a greek drink if I\'m not mistaken and my dad lived in greece for like 5 years so ya....

Anyways I know that water turns it the white color too, not just ice. Its has to do with the H2O not the coldness of the ice.

Its not that complicated. I mean I don\'t know the whole process isn\'t that unordinary.

I\'m sure you know about what happends to salt when put into water. The molecules split and their polarity changes hence a chemical reaction and a new solution.

The same thing. happends with ouzo in terms of a chemical reaction taking place. It just happends that the new solution has a color.

And...what the hell is Ouzo...sounds gross. Ah well...I guess it can\'t be if some-one drinks it.  But then again...stueben;)

Ouzo is basically schnaps made of anise. Undrinkable, unless you drink it before/after food. It is indeed Greek, and usually served in Greek restaurants (here) after dinner.

Undrinkable?? Dunno about that...works fine for me even without any food what so ever, but hey: I am a finn and we are not so picky what we drink...as long as it has alcohol in it  ;)
