Hey guys, I\'m trying to get on the Planeshift team to dev some music...
What do you think of these?
Fugue.mp3 (http://www.formingaband.com/Fugue.mp3)
Umnarr (A song for a movie trailer I am working on) (http://www.formingaband.com/UmnarrTrailer.mp3)
-
sounds good.
You composed them by yourself?
-Xolon-
-
Yeah, it took me two days each song.
I am getting better at the programs I use so I should improve in quality as I go.
-
Wow, dude, I think your music is awesome! It brings back the good old Final Fantasy feeling. This really has some potential. Keep up the good work!
BTW, what programs did you use to make this?
-
The first one isn\'t really my taste... And the second one... Well, it\'s .. How can you say this... It\'s a bit flat? ?( I mean, you need some more of those deep tones to mix up with some high tones and stuff. It\'s not like it isn\'t good, but I just don\'t like it as much as you maybe want me to.
-
as a start, those are fairly good.
But they come up lacking compared to games like Dark Age of Camelot and Neverwinter Nights. Mainly because thier tracks were composed by real composers.
Good work though.

Awesome stuff, i like it. It has that cave feeling to it, if that is what you were going for.
The trailer one is a bit flat on the side, i feel it does not reach the wanted level of climax that it should, and the drums at the end are not really necessery to bring the entire piece to the ending.
But overall, good stuff. :] And maybe you should make them a bit longer, so that it does not repeat itself that often when you are fighting and listening to it, otherwise, it may get a bit borring.
-
Thanks for the psuedo-positive feedback. =P
The General: You are spot on about the drums, they were only added due to a request from the director. I was going for a specific feel, but not one that has anything to do with an adventure/rpg video game.
Gronomist: Your comments implore me to use a better speaker system to analyze my songs. Frankly, I can\'t hear whether or not deep tones are playing on my itty-bitty laptop speakers. =(
I leave you with one more song:
Imperial March (Heavy Metal Guitar Remix) (http://www.formingaband.com/ImpMarch.mp3)
-
ParaSite: I forgot to mention that I use Fruityloops.
Well, I added some Deeper string tones to the song to give it more depth... it has a significant impact on the end of the song, and the first part where the strings come into play. I am gonna have to listen to it on some better speakers to hear them though. I\'ll probably be uploading a new version of the second song in a half hour or so. (in case you liked the song, but thought it needed to be more deep/rich)
I appreciate the feedback though.
Rest assured, if I were to make songs for Planeshift, I would spend more than 2 days on each one. =)
-
New song is uploaded (the second one)
Unfortunately, I don\'t seem to have a computer in my house with a decent set of speakers... so I really can\'t tell how much of a difference the changes made. It should sound more rich/deep than before (the Umnarr song)
Oh well.
-
WOW, what happened here. It\'s like med-evil meets \"Korn\" or something along those lines.
It has some nice textures to it, and blends in very nicely, BUT, and i emphasize but, it does not have that sword and bow feel to it. You know, it\'s not a song they would play in the old times. Maybe replacing the guitar with something like a violin, or one of those smaller string instruments, like the once used by the entertainers (i can\'t remember the name)
Hole this helps... ?(
-
Now THAT is a lot better! Now it\'s starting to sound like some sweet graveyard/cave music :D It\'s way better with those added deep \"WooOooOooOo\" tones :P
Edit : Still think the rollover kinda effect from the single piano thingy to the music thingy is kinda stiff.. Sounds like some of those big floot violins (got no idea of what they\'re called), just playing like a crazy and it all starts... Maybe you could do something about it..? :D But it\'s not bad at all!
Edit2 : Bad spelling :D

I don\'t think he intended it to be. I think he\'s bright enough to understand that an electical guitar isn\'t the right instrument for the medieval-fantasy-setting kinda game music planeshift needs.
Plus that it\'s the theme song from star wars.
Edit: btw Shaggy_CA, you\'ve got some real skills! :)
-
Yeah, the Imperial March, is of course, Darth Vader\'s theme song.
It pleases me to hear that the new version of the Umnarr song sounds better (especially considering that I can\'t tell on my computer). I sent the new song to the movie director last night. Hopefully he approves of the changes.
Neither of these songs are supposed to have a sword and bow feeling to them. One is for a play, and the other is for a fantasy movie (without any real sword action, but some magic play involved in the end)
Thanks for the complement Keldorn. (though I\'ve played better than the Imperial March, =)
Gronomist: I assume you mean during the second phrase of the song, the violin starts too abruptly. I can make the transition more gradual. (although I may have to leave it because of the scenes that are being shown during the trailer).
I should make it clear that all three of these songs were not made for Planeshift, let alone any video game RPG. I wouldn\'t expect them to have a sword/bow, adventure/combat feel to them, though I am perfectly capable of producing such music (should I be asked to contribute).

Holy sacriligious cow that was cool, dude you have got to make some more music like that. I didnt like the starwars thing but thats ok and all because the other ones were so much better. Do you think that you could make something that sounded sort of mystical. Some of the best music from games that ive played have been, crono trigger, secret of mana, and a really old one called aracana which was kind of kind of low tech but is has a good story line and good music. Here is some music from crono trigger you can listen to if you want http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/DMATJoly/midi.htm
-
I remember playing Arcana on Super Nes.
I can make lots of types of music. These ones were just examples. The Star Wars one is just for kicks (I don\'t consider that video game music).
Mystical would be easy. Easier than what I did before.

The second one is to me better than the Fugue. Its got more atmosphere and feeling, not to mention a noticable theme, the Fugue after all is more generic. Just need your samples to be of better quality, sound a little raspy and low qaulity.
