I didn\'t believe it till I herd it from some one! There going to wipe all the characters. Whenever? Thats a bummer. All this hard work on my guy for nothing. all well.. I will just wait and see when it will happen before I start working on anything yet. I\'ll keep checking in regularly and hopefully it will happen sooner than later.
I\'m not complaining just disapointed. So see you all whenever it happens. Good luck guys and good hunting!
-
Its lies! all lies!
but other than that yeah, use this time to experiament with skills... make some friends.
Editation! ok now i\'ve read the post, you have fun with that see you around.
-
Its been threatened for months now, so just how did you miss the servers MOTD? :-)
-
I\'m looking forward to the wipe!
This day, whan all those people that scared me when they killed a Tef in the arena with one mighty hit, that killed me in a duels in about 0.5 sec., when all these people will be just as weak as all of us and will invite us to their groups, just to defeat on Tef. The Day when we all start from zero, when we all are equal again to build one new Commuinty to populate Yliakum in peace and love......uhh..sorry...
...too pathetic?...come on.....i mean it!...really....
-
sorry to dissappoint you, but not everybody will be equal. Slso those who kill tefusangs with 1 blow, will know how to come to that moment faster.
After all, nothing will change and there will always be new people, not skilled enough with one wish, to be as those better than them ;)
-
So it didn\'t get wiped yet? **sighs with relief** I just hope i have internet access back before it does so i won\'t lose my character when we redo the whole migration thingy.
By the way, Helloooo everybody! >.> **Crawls away**
-
Yes, that\'s true, but we\'ll all will start from a common ground.
Yes, there will be people that will advance faster than others, but for a time, that gap will be very small. And even the strongest and fastest will may need the support of the community to survive. I\'m not saying that the wipe will make as all equal ( ok, i DID say that, but that was just ...ya\' know...an emotional ardor ). What i mean was, make new friends, take new challenges...come on.... don\'t step on my dreams...i\'m a child of the hippie-age....You know..peace, love and happyness. :-). Just want to spread a optimistic feeling about that.
-
I just started playing for an hour yesterday...and why the heck is the server down...its been like that all day
its kinda making me mad...are they wiping all the characters right now?
-
no wipe, just dead.
acraig
Well, at the moment I am unsure. I cannot ssh to the machine so the entire machine is
a) crashed/locked up
b) powered off
c) disconnected from the Internet.
-
I didnt even get a chance to get any armor *cries*
-
The armor does next-to-nothing and isn\'t visible on your character. You\'re not missing out on anything particularly exciting ;)
-
LOL at Karyuu. Nope not missing anything there. Think the weight is even actually slowing me down ;)
AS for the wipe well almost alll equal for one day. Exept the MB ubers they should still get money for the crystals they gathered although there shouldn\'t be a bug to make it ULTRA uber like last time where people litterally were transferreed with millions of tria.
But some money to buy two swords and train it that first levels will ofcourse give them an advantage you will have to catch up with to be equal, but then your uber yourself becuase other have not so your still not equal with everyone else, but ahh well ;)
Any sence in this post? well no, whats your point?
-
Yeah, actually when the wipe comes it will probablly be more un-equal then it is now, because of all the MB people who start with thousands of Tria. For example i got 6000 tria I think when I transferred over, and so I can buy a sweet sword and go off Tefu killing straight away and level up sword, where as other people have to kill rats with their bare hands for an hour to save up enough to buy a single sword. But hey, thats the reward we get for spending all those countless hours running around picking up crystals.
Really though, if I were you, I wouldnt worry about the wipe that much... when it happens, it happens. When i first heard about it I stopped playing expecting it to be soon.. and 2 months later, it still hasnt happened. Personally I think there\'s still at least 1 month to go until it happens. (Having said that, watch for the announcement that the wipe is happening tomorrow....)
-
i dont think the wipe is going to happen until they can get all the skill put in and the bugs out of the skills.
so i give the wipe like 2 more years or maybe even longer
of course this is speculation.
-
well i believe this early announced (february) wipe does a lot of damage to the community. everyone expected to happen it quite soon but as time is passing and the wipe not happening alot of \'old\' players left. if it will really take another 2 years, well, i guess that ps will loose most of its guilds and yliakum will be crowded by hack&slash powerlevelers...
-
you\'d sooner find me making a monkey dance to a little jukebox on the corner of crack street so i can buy me 5 minutes of internet time in a cafe then leave planeshift just because of power levellers wipes and bug fixes :|
wipes of databases will push away power levellers, they wont want to do it all over again, you can\'t \'wipe\' a community, you cant \'reset\' a roleplay, its all in the mind, that part will never leave, nor will i
-
wipes of databases will push away power levellers, they wont want to do it all over again, you can\'t \'wipe\' a community, you cant \'reset\' a roleplay, its all in the mind, that part will never leave, nor will i
yeah but reality tells a different story. look just how many guilds left or disband since the devs had the silly idea to announce the wipe withouth actually doing it. at the moment, ps is only attractive to guild and community builders, which are not so much depending on the game itself \'cause they have enough to care about elsewhere (making websites, forming guilds, chatting, art and so on). of course, in the case of bloodclaw inc. this might be not so true - they had a fine website, where quite active in the URPS but disband anyway. i guess they suffered also an increase of inactive players due to the announced wipe.
-
people come and go, guilds are created and disbanded anyway, really its nothing to do with the wipe, just please stop going on like the wipe and what the dev\'s decide to do ruins everything, because, in reality its actually the word of mouth from people like you and other forms of negativity that push the community away, now dont take this as a personal attack, lots of people do it, and it just doesnt help
-
I\'m amazed that people think the wipe had any influence on guilds disbanding. It\'s a completely illogical concept, unless the said guild was a guild of powerlevelers that were angered at the thought of losing all their precious little numbers. Wipes happen in every single game in development, and players in every single game of this sort manage to find ways to deal with it. Those who leave because of the wipe are probably not the sort of people we would want to keep within the community anyway, because of what such actions show about the mindset of the people.
Really, arguing over the \"fairness\" of this is a silly idea. And 2 years before the wipe? Even sillier ;)
-
this wipe-threads pop\'s up once a week, soi thought that we may dicuss it under diffrent point of view.
So, some people will profit, some will not. That\'s as it is everywhere. Some will be stronger, some will be weaker, the rich are getting richer and the poor stay poor. Like it has been, like it will be.
The wipe will take place, and it has to take place, no way around. So, ( and again a refrerence to the hippy-culture ) we have to go through this togehter. Those of us, who will not benefit, should stand united. We don\'t need heroes, we don\'t need millionaires. May those, who will benefit, are not the ones to blame. Maybe no one will be to blame. Maybe we can solve this in a way, better then all the events recorded in history. Just another challenge for the whole Yliakean Community to show everyone else how to stand as one in time of trouble.
-
Wow what did I start here. Thanks for your post. Shocking about this info of yours and these wipes have happened before.
Hmmm. Figures you have to wipe your hands before and after you use the \"can\" I mean in PS? I guess PS outhouses get messy fast? 8oD
I also doubt powerlvlers will run away from these wipes. Most have uber overbloated egos so hand wiping is common for them. lol
I was minding my own business one day when I herd a rumour about \"Training\". No Not training how to wipe your +*%$, but the kind of training let say large # of rats to follow your wonderful music flute to the nearest noobie lvling. Then watch what happens when the music stops hehee. If you get my meaning. ;op
I miss EQ uber trains. Even Merdian 59 for us older gamers!
-
thats not the kind of thing you should do here

i agree with you. im personaly not going to play the game until the wipe sooo in my spare time im going to learn how to code how to use photoshope and how to rp better. I have been following this game ever sense you could only walk around and talk. Just beacuse a char wipe with only fighting stats dont bother me. And if the wipe is to go on for more than 2 years then i will learn something else that can help the devs get a more complete game. :)
-
A wipe thread that\'s lasted 2 days! Moogie must be busy! LOL
As a self-confessed Power Leveler Let me explain something to you about us. We won\'t go away just because we have to start another new character from scratch. We are PLers and we have no life. All the wipe will mean is we start over without making all the mistakes we made the first time and knowing a lot more about how to level up faster this time around. Besides I heard that the graphics will be better after the wipe, and the only thing us PLers like better than pwning noobs and bragging about how we can kill a rat with one blow is better graphics. ooh pretty!
The only way to get rid of Power Levelers is to completely take out ANY reward system of ANY kind of points or items or bragging rights. Period. No Progression Points, no Experience percent, No Stats, No Dueling Points, No Advisor Points, No Most number of hours My UberLeetMageDude has been standing around in the blue corner of the background while I\'ve been at school picking my nose bragging rights. Nada, Nix, Nothing. And oh by the way, the MB\'ers who get to carry their Crystal money over after the wipe are PLer\'s. I\'m sorry but if you get to brag about how many more crystals you picked up than than all the other leet Crystal Picker Uppers, you are a PLer. Cmon, say it with me; \"My name is CrystalPickerLeetDude and I, I\'m a Power Leveler! Oh and I\'m working the Anti-Crystal Picking PL\'er 12 step program faster than any of you losers!\"
Kid yerself all you want, after the wipe there will be more PLers not less. And it will still be fun to play PS.
And until someone figures out how to incorporate AD&D Dungeon Master style content and adventure into these MMORPG\'s, quests, guilds, groups, online and/or in-game friends, GM\'s, Devs, etc., NOTHING will change them from being about who has some type of the MOST bragging rights. Call it what you will, if you like to brag about how yer RPG skills are better than my RPG skills, friend, you are a PLer! LOL
/me drinks another beer after a few too many

What are you like 3 years old? To my knowledge \"potty humor\" isn\'t funny anymore. So sad.
Anyways, as for me, I too am looking forward to the wipe. Since I am a \"pure\" wizard, I need glyphs to do any combat. I sold them all to sponsor the Festival of Yliakum. I have no money. I have no glyphs. I have no fun.

This is so pathetic.

Phinehas, Arkumin shh now.
-
this was cool...
-
I think there is nothing surprising in the wipe. The game is developed continously, sometimes \'resets\' are needed to clean the effects of bug or inbalance exploits.
As for people getting big amounts of starting money? It doesn\'t count until everyone gets enough.:) The main problem is that a new player cannot even get enough money to use their pps without playing very-very monotonously...
Though I do hope when the \'real\' game starts noone will get starting advantage.
-
Yay! another post about not spent PP\'s.
It will never happen there will be balance of PP\'s and trias to spent them. Simply because different people use trias for different purposes and in different quantity.
Solution is to edit current system so that it won\'t need PP\'s. there are multiple adventages of that.
Ask me if you need to know how.

You will be very disappointed then - those who have played MB, will get their crystals changed to Trias in CB. And I don\'t even want to start discussing, about the next version of PS as it is so far away...
-
Kiramon: Is CB the real game? No, it is not even beta... They can have what they want. Or you can have what you want, seeing your post you are an a MB player.
Nikodemus: There is no need to have a balance between PPs and trias. Simply there should be more tria income sources, more npcs with drops other than the current few, more and more expensive items to spend trias on.

And this is what won\'t solve the problem.
Besides, this there is not enough money to spent not used PP\'s and there are loads of them isn\'t the main reason of my opinion. This what makes me worry is one can use PP\'s from smashing monsters with use of axe to train eg. herbalism.
Sure the sysytem with use of PP\'s can find a way to solve this problem, but i think system without them would solve more problems at once.
Also, \"more and more expensive items\" shouldn\'t be this what fixes attention of the mayority. It is in other games, but i hope PS will allow for more complex behaviour what will bring more life to gameplay.
-
I did play MB yes, very few knew me back then. And I never migrated my character so after wipe I start with 0 tria, which I actually don\'t care about - and what is the REAL game? just wondering ^^
-
If I were you I\'d just give up, most people have as this wipe has been looming above us for months and months, but you know what\'s fun? Playing hide and seek in planeshift ^^

Phinehas using the word patronizing to describe someone else. Interesting. Your entire post consisting of patronizing someone you think is patronizing, and a me too response is what looks pathetic to this dwarf is what! And so there! Neener Neener Pumpkin Eater! LOL
Overlooking the importance to new PS players, Progression Points are the only visual marker or indicator of level in the game that the player has. Not much of one I agree, but at least it\'s something. What multiple advantages are there to editing the current system so that it doesn\'t need PP\'s? Or were you just \"me tooing\" so it wouldn\'t look like some pathetic attempt to get the last word in?

Yes, \"me too\" is always easy to say. So easy in fact that it\'s usually considered to be unnecessary to all but the youngest among us. :)
Phinehas was being sarcastic and not patronizing? How do you expect a poor dwarf to draw a line that fine? LOL.

Yes, I was being sarcastic, and patronizing. It\'s my job. My point was that Drey should not, as it doesn\'t suit him. He should be posting in his own unique and very weird way, which patronization has no part in. As for the rest of your accusations, if you lack the facilities to comprehend my posts, then don\'t comment on them.

Speaking of lacking in comprehension, you overlooked the request for an actual content response part of the discussion. I know, you were busy patronizing me, but here, I\'ll repeat it for you:

First of all Arkumin, next time, try to see who wrote what. It is you who is missing the content and lack understanding of posts.
Answering your question which i really don\'t know why you have repeated, here it goes:
- Two reasons you have in my post.
- Another which i think i also mentioned is, you won\'t have thousands of points which you probably never use.
- One won\'t have to think if he has enough points, when he is going to training, because he will be going to train simply when the bar will be full and he won\'t be able to practice anymore unles he go training.
Also I don\'t think so PP\'s is the only thing which gives newbie feling of progression. If that newbie would read player guide, he would know how system works. If not it is really simple to ask someone.
If there were no PP\'s, newbie would simply look at his bar in the given skill and if he read the guide he would have the feeling of progression.

Hmm Tag yer it huh? LOL. OK, lets go for it! In what way am I missing the content and lack of understanding? Unless it\'s a lack of understanding the content with which you support this statement. If it\'s the following statement:
Originally posted by Nikodemus Answering your question which i really don\'t know why you have repeated, here it goes:
I have to say that it appears you are the one who\'s missed the content and have a lack of understanding. The reason I repeated the post to Phinehas was because he responded to my first response to his response, etc., with only sarcasm and missed providing an answer with content, and that showed a lack of understanding. So I repeated the content. So, if you review thru the content of the thread, I think you\'ll not miss understanding the content this time. And I hope that provides you with some contentment and understanding. :)
As to the part of yer post which has actual content and not a lack of understanding of the back&forth between Phinehas and meself:

Interesting Points. My own is that the Progression Points in the thousands is the only indication of level other than stats that we have. The Experience bar percentage rolling over and over doesn\'t really tell me anything. The PP being at 2000, 5000, 10,000 tells me something about where you are in the game. Granted it\'s not much to go by, but it\'s better than no level indicator IMHO. I\'m not getting the bar indicator. How would that be more useful than the points system? Since the points really only matter to newbies in the game who need to know how many they need to train, and don\'t mean anything to us in the game after you collect a few hundred, except as I said an indicator of progress, a progress bar would seem to show less information than the actual points? Am I missing something?

One thing I always do when showing a newbie over to Harnquist is send em a tell saying: \"Now that you\'ve got a feel for the game and a look at the graphics, you really need to go back to the website where you downloaded the game and read the Player\'s Guide.\" I completely agree with you that it\'s necessary to do that to understand any indicator of progress in the game. That being said, Progression Points are what they are. An indicator, they are an indicator of overall Progression via a Points system.
/me Drinks another beer and hopes he\'s been succinct enough
-
What\'s wrong with using the actual levels as an indicator of where you are in the game? As far as I understand Nikodemus is desirous of removing the progression points, but not the levels that you put them into. If that\'s not what he meant, then it was my ingenious plan... Either way...
As for why I replied to your post without any content, but only sarcasm, well, that\'s the way I operate. I rarely bother to hash out the matters at hand because I find that there are dozens of others who are capable of doing it, if not as well as I, then at least completely adequately. This thread is completly off track and needs to die a swift and painful death. Because of which, im going to be a Complete hypocrite and keep it alive by replying.

Firstly, I dont see what the hype about how Many progression points you have is. They mean nothing because Unless im mistaken, you usually use them up on skills after you get them.. so how many Progression Points you have is unrelated to how strong your character is. A character with 0 pp\'s could have level 80 sword and 50 in light armour, or a person with 5000 could have no skills whatsoever. I have a bugged character with 44,000 Progression Points, but no skills, and no money, so they\'re pretty worthless. Progression points are a very rough guide, nothing more.
Overlooking the importance to new PS players, Progression Points are the only visual marker or indicator of level in the game that the player has. No, skills also indicate the level the player is at, or even tria. I would rank those both above PP\'s.
As for why I replied to your post without any content, but only sarcasm, well, that\'s the way I operate. So basically you just come into a conversation and add nothing factual to it, but just make subjective and sarcastic comments. I mean, you dont bother to hash out the matters at hand or figure out whats going on, you just feel the need to jump in and attack people to keep it \'fair\' Well, I mean you\'re not alone, you\'re just the first person i\'ve seen to willingly admit that..

Question: Howcome many people get flamed for repeating stuff when they could have just searched for it but then this dude comes along, starts another cliche wipe thread and doesn\'t get flamed? O_o
*cough* hypocrites *cough*

No, I do often add things to the topic at hand. More often, however, I\'m drawn into the conversation by my desire to help people see through their own flawed logic and what-not, as an example, see the Dragon\'s Council thread. I may not be directly contributing to the conversation, but I am helping to make it more productive. Not always, I admit, but often.

Lol well when you put it that way it makes it sound alot better than what I said.. :P
Moreover, when I look at it, thats what I do alot of the time. Except I usually try to get an understanding of the thread and add something factual to it and then launch into the criticism of everybody\'s logical.

So do I usually, but that doesn\'t mean I do every time, nor am I going to apologize when I don\'t. ;) And you\'re right, it does sound a lot better the way I put it, that was the whole point.

Funny how a thread about the wipe progresses into people arguing with themselvs in a completly off-topic post so long it doesn\'t even fit on my screen...
Topic: Guys is there a wipe?
Poster1: Ya, duh... *walks off* stupid n00b...
Poster2: YES THERE IS A WIPE I THINK THERE SHOULDN\'T BE ONE!!!!!
Poster3: WELL I THINK THERE SHOULDN\'T BE PP!!!
Poster1: *quotes a million people including George Washington*
*begins to argue with himself for a whole page this is just to save space*
Poster4: I AGREE WITH POSTER 1 YET I WILL ALSO PROCEED TO QUOTING A MILLION PEOPLE AND SOMHOW IN ALL THAT ONE PAGE OF WRITING STILL FIND A WAY TO ARGUE WITH POSTER1 WHILE AGREEING WITH HIM AT THE SAME TIME!!!!

Then of course there\'s poster number 6 who comes along and says how funny the whole thing is, all the while doing nothing to actually contribute to the conversation...

I second that notion...
PP are useless, money is scarce, blah, blah, blah...
You guys need to stop arguing about obvious and well known annoyances...
Is Moogie dead, or something?... ?(

Oh come now, you can\'t deny that this is a lot more fun to read than opening a thread and reading through the whole thing only to find out it\'s been locked... Please, don\'t encourage Moogie, I(and I daresay most of the more regular posters) have been enjoying the slacking off of the moderating around here. Almost reminiscent of the good old Cabali days.

LOL... yes, the forums have been smiting free recently, haven\'t they?... :P
I\'m all in favor of the occasional odd thread, though, I defy you to to tell me the actual purpose to continue typing here...

Yikes, I\'ve got thirty! That\'s \'cause I used to contribute to all those threads that the Cabali got deleted I suppose.
-
Christ, you guys have spent about 4 pages worth talking about.....nothing! wtf? :P

That\'s generally right. And we all will end with cancer, as the wipe threads cause it.
