I don\'t know if anyone here has heard of the upcoming mmorpg Dark and Light, but if have or havn\'t, It\'s the most in depth mmorpg I have ever seen, well besides ps :).
It has:
-12 races
-14 classes not including explorers
-Largest world in any game ever, the whole WoW world is equal to 5% or the Dark and Light world
-Different kingdoms, real players own the kingdoms and kingdoms fight all the time and their borders are constantly changing.
-You can ride dragons and such in the air, even jump off of them in the air and pull out a parachute.
-The sides of Dark and Light are at war. If you\'re dark and you see a light guy running, attack. :)
-1 huge world, no servers or loading zones.
-Every person has a job
-There\'s FXP and SXP one makes you stronger the other makes you climb the political ladder to be a nobleman or somthing else.
-80 mins in RL=1 day in game, 400ish in game days= 1 in game year.
- Much more, too much to put here.

The thing about how much there is released about the game is this. The game is almost ready for release, their target date is November. It\'s still in closed beta though which means you can play by invite only right now aqnd anyone who plays beta has to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) Which basicly says they can\'t give out any information at all about the game. Anything out about it now was allowed by the devs.
I still don\'t know how exactly I\'m going to pay for the game but they say for the first month the game will be free so they can do a \"stress test\". Which I have no problem with. :D
Oh and there are a bunch or religons in the game. You chose to follow one and your religon will have its own events. Your religon will also have a constilation in the night sky and when your constilation is bright special things happen.
One last thing, the good items in the game won\'t drop, they must be crafted. This means that no more farmers and, well, cool. :) When you craft a weapon you don\'t take it to an npc either. You find a player with high crafting skills and you let them do their thing once you give them all the required items. But, the crafter isn\'t the only thing that matters. The weather, stars, time of day, month etc. will all matter on how your weapon comes out. Yes, weather. It will rain snow etc. in the game depending on the season. But, some classes can even change the weather, I think the druid could...
Necromancers turn into bats, Monks turn into spirits, Archers snipe in first person, etc.
I\'m probably gonna die from waiting for this game. I\'ve had my eye on it since january and it just seems so promising. I still have no idea how I\'m gonna pay but I\'ll find a way.

hum... nothing about the price ?
-
It will be up for download, you don\'t have to buy it. They arn\'t 100% sure on just how much it will be a month yet but they said between 10 and 15 US. That would be about 8-13 in uro I think...

Been away for some time, trying other MMORPG\'s - came to one conclusion: me + PVP = HATE!
am I the only one who see a similarity between this (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/609/609782/img_2200372.html) and this (http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/render/ojaveda.jpg)?

Ok well that\'s not at all similar if you ask me. Those towers from the planeshift picture you see are elevators to different llevels.
I noticed some things similar in this game and ps but nothing to like sue em over, I doubt they copyed anything from ps. Homes and jobs arn\'t really that hard to think of after all.
I wanna play a dark elf necromancer. I heard necromancers in this game won\'t raise a million skeletons or anything but instead lets say your ally dies on the battle feild. You can raise a slightly weaker shadow ghost version of him who will d your bidding. Not very respectable but necromancers never were supposed to have the respect of their peers.

Sounds good. Now if they could only get a combat system that\'s more than just point and click. I\'m still looking for an rpg where the combat requires actual skill.

I\'ve heard that the Conan Barbarian MMORPG thingy will have a good and advanced combat system if it ever comes out ;P
-
They\'re making an mmorpg out of it? Scary...
-
Efflixi I never said they copied anything - did I? ;)
And come on, if one has the smallest amount of imagination, there is a LITTLE similarity in the structure ^^

You should try guildwars if you\'re not looking for anything point and clicky. I don\'t think they want this game to be a click and wait till you kill the monster type of thing anyways.

Those graphics would drive me insane! the landscape and characters look so drab and pasty and the architecture is horrible. Who cares if the world is 50 times bigger that WoW\'s, it looks like crap where as WoW\'s is absolutely beatiful and highly detailed compared to Dark and Light\'s giant barren wilderness.
Ill stick with Planeshift however, thank you very much
-
I came across Dark & Light about a year ago.
It looks like a very interesting and promising game. I get the feeling though that the world is going to be too big. The info given on the races is pretty pathetic aswell.
Dont think Im going to play it though, Im sure Oblivion will be the only RPG Ill play for 2 or 3 years, just like Morrowind :D

What sort of combat system is there in GW?
-
We\'ll if you just click on somthing and wait...you\'ll die.
You gotta used your skills and watch your health and mana. if you just stand there you\'re as good as dead.
-
Yeah I read about D&L way back when it was in beta. Tried joining but never got in. Once I get some extra cash I\'ll be sure to check it out.

Umm... yes... That is basically the type of combat system that bothers me. It\'s point and click. Tell me, how many rpg\'s have you played where you don\'t have to watch your health and mana? That\'s the whole point, that that\'s all you do is watch your health and mana and maybe switch stances or change spells. It\'s like... for people who can\'t handle real combat... I\'m looking for an mmorpg version of... say... Planetside. Not that I love that game, but they do have a progression system where you raise \"skills\" and yet what it comes down to is that whether or not you hit your enemy depends on your skill, not on the computer rolling dice to see if you did or not. Now if we could have that sort of combat system in an rpg setting... wow! Think of a cross between, say... Thief (only played a bit of the first one, so that may not be an accurate representation) and Planetside. Something along those lines. Up to you to hit the enemy with your arrow, up to you to block their sword-thrust, not the dice.
-
I seem to remember Mogura going on and on about this a while back. I\'m not sure why I remember something like that, but eh.
Nice rant, Phinehas. For some reason today your name looks weird to me.

Yes, yes I can. What does that have to do with anything?
Actually, I wasn\'t aware of the existence of this game. It looks promising, too bad it\'s not mmo. Still though, I must try it out...

You\'ll have to wait some time for Oblivion. Until then you may try Gothic - I think you will like its combat system. Still not MMO, though.

I can\'t find a decent site for Gothic, everything\'s German or something. It also seems a bit... dark for my tastes.

Entamins? Weren\'t you gonna be away for like a long time or somthing? Welcome back. :)
*walks off looking for the original topic*

last time i heard of this game i saw a dumb video of shield sledding lmao.. anyway, the world is going to be large but randomly generated and boring. ill take something like the hand made forest path in planeshift over endless miles of the same generic looking forest anyday.

I haven\'t finished it yet, but so far it isn\'t darker than most games. You can always play the demo to see if you like it.
@Efflixi: I don\'t think so. But hi anyway :)

If you like Star Trek then there is a fan made MMORPE and it is supossed to have \"realstic\" combat.

There is loading times and zones, read the FAQ
And the 5% of WoW world is Greatly exagerated, however dark and light will be considerably larger.
I checked out a gameplay video.. the graphics were fairly good, however the animations are extremely stiff, especially fighting looks awkwurd(spelling?)
-
awkwurd(spelling?)
Awkward I beleive.
And dark and light is randomly generated terrain?? Sux0rz
-
yup pretty games like that make my computer lock up, its a shame, time to upgrade again i suppose, the dragons look very well done. check out the beta tesrer screenies, tight work, beta testers rule!

The greatest mmorpg ever made is PLANESHIFT not anything else!
final point!
:P
