Title: Wipe and Update!
Post by: Sikarda on July 29, 2005, 01:59:49 am
Hi,

So the wipe and update is (nearly) here!

For Mac users, will there be much delay in recieving our version?

No problem, just curious. :)

My guess is \"probably not.\" Depending on the changes client side, there may be no delay. If there is, though, I estimate two weeks, tops. Dfryer is usually pretty quick, so I wouldn\'t worry too much.

I think this will really be quick. As even me was able to build at least the client on 10.4, should be a piece of cake for dfryer. Unfortunately i wont know if it really completely works until the Server has been updated.

Yes dfryer is pretty quick (and again, we all love you so much for doing this. Macs Rule!) But, it sounds to me the client 3.011 will be pretty different, especially this new looting system. Now, I know the loot generation is server side, but me being the eternal pessimist, it seems there\'s going to be a lot to change.

Now, I mentioned this in the general discussion thread on the update, but why is it not possible for the devs to release their new client to dfryer and ChaOs about two weeks ahead of the server update so that everyone can update together? Yes, this would require a second test server that only devs log onto to check system\'s functionality, but according to a post by moogie about a month ago, there are several vounteered servers ready to be used when needed.

Dfryer, ChaOs (not sure if you are helping Daniel make the new clients now???) is this not a possibility? You know better than I do, but if you can explain that it is not possible to update all types of clients at once I will be much more calmed about the waiting thing.

You guys still do a great job, thanks so much for the hard work, I really enjoy that you allow the mac users to play this game (tech demo).

Cheers,

Xirius

No, I\'m not helping dfryer with the builds, at the moment. I may see if I can give him a hand in the future if I get more time, but for now I\'m just helping keep the forums tidy so he can focus on the client. I haven\'t heard from him recently, so I don\'t know his take on the update, but he\'ll probably drop by soon and tell you himself. ;)

I do have advance notice of updates, but by the time I get things together it\'s usually release time, and then I have to work out any problems I run into :)  I should have this one done pretty quick, I *hope*, although most of our favourite bugs are still there.

Thanks,
Daniel

I look forward to it. I\'ve even become accustomed to a pitch black death realm and dungeons, it makes it much more challenging and realistic. Hehe,

the new version is available now, you just have to use the updater from version 3.010, or chaos\'s updater.jar, but the official package hasn\'t been uploaded to the main site yet i guess, there are still some bugs that dfryer is working out, i believe, (once again, thank you dfryer and chaos for all the work you guys do!). You should look around at all the other posts ; )
