Title: Movies to avoid and never watch.
Post by: Induane on August 01, 2005, 09:26:55 am
Here is a short list of movies that are so terrible I can spare you the trouble of having to watch them:

Solaris
Alexander
Troy
Attack of the Flying Pirahana
Any Jaws move besides the first one.
Jason X
Any movie from the Lifetime Channel.
This one movie about a guy who is the anti-christ and finds it out and then gets shot while sitting in a car just as he is making his \"transition\".
Children of the Corn

Help me out by adding to this list.

Any movie featured in the series Mystery Science Theatre 3000. :) But Mystery Science Theatre 3000 itself is absolutely fantastic and everyone should watch it.

Office Killer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119819/)
Crossroads (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275022/)

I didn\'t watch them voluntarily, mind you, the curse came upon me in various sneak previews... :(

Crossroads is good for like the first 5 mins. ;)

The Notebook girls can go ahead and watch this but, guys, stay away from this movie. You\'ll want to gouge your eyes out by the middle just so you don\'t have to see any more of the ultimate chick flick/tear jerker ever. Not to mention the ending sucked and was totally predictable. Worst 2 hours of my life ever. I\'m scared that if I watch it again I\'ll lose all the man left in me...

I did, it\'s well funny at the time...well all the times...unless it\'s last few shows, where...well, it\'s losing it\'s touch.

And what\'s wrong with Solaris? But then perhaps you can\'t handle philosophical movies :P. I even seen the original...:P

Oh no not the Children of the Corn, such classics...:D

Now do I have anything to add to this list...hm...Can\'t think of any, usually I can see if the film is bad without watching it...:D

Gasp! Yawning at Lord of the Rings? Well, maybe I can understand it with the actors composed of 99% blue-eyed blonds, or the 80% of scenes that began and ended with desparate blue-eyed, tear-streaked faces, or the spoofs that immediately arose from fans, but... Come on! ;D Besides, long books are awesome.

But just so that I add to the list: Day After Tomorrow - bleh!

I like Unbreakable, Solaris (in a ways), Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite movies (I love the book and I do enjoy long movies, try this watch the whole extended trilogy in 1 day :D), even Harry Potter not a bad as a movie, although I dislike the books, well ok you can have it ti not great movie but it\'s not the worst, then Green Mile, yet again a good movie. Although it all depends on what kind of person you are.

I won\'t openly disagree with anyone about there opinion of movies; they are after all their opinions. However I will add a movie of my own.

Ella Enchanted

My ex thought this one would be good but the melding of modern and the fantastical was botched and well ewww.

Of course no film can capture the magic of Tolkien\'s narrations, descriptions, and magic, but as to say that the movies \"suck\" seems odd. Ah well ;)

More things to avoid: Every animated film by Disney.

I remembered, I remembered! Logan\'s Run!

Bizarre, horribly corny, original to the recent \"Island\" (which has to appear on this list even though it isn\'t out yet), and awkwardly hilarious.

Or does that mean I\'m recommending it o_0

Imagine this, imagine another world, another director, same book, different movie, the one where director decides that he didn\'t like the particular part of the book and rewrote it, image the horror that would have been produced. I must say that Peter Jackson\'s movie and almost to the letter with the book. At least that\'s what I like to think.

lol

When I saw the Peter Jakson\'s movie I first think it was strange to see alone people like Aragorn or Legolas can kill something like 100 Orcs without beeing hurt...

And finally I understand everything by reading the books

I fund the first movie annoying, the second and the third absolutly unreal and unreallistic.

The only thing I find really similar between the books and the movies were the fact I was lost (because of all the names of the territories)

In the books they do kill a lot of Orcs by themselves without getting hurt. Perhaps best example is when Gimli and Legolas start counting how many they killed, was it Helm\'s Deep battle?

Gee, Induane, thanks for \"sparing\" us poor souls. I think it\'s for every person to decide for themselves what movies they like and don\'t like. I like making my own decisions about that. There are movies that everyone would rave about that I didn\'t like, and there are movies that got criticized a lot that I liked. As for your current list, I happen to agree with most, except Solaris. You don\'t even mention (or perhaps don\'t know?) which version of it you didn\'t like. You might want to mention that you thought the American version sucked, unless you assume it\'s the only version that exists.

And to Moogie, I think MST3K is utter garbage. While they do review a lot of crappy movies, do you actually think it\'s the only type of movies they review? Did you know that they only reviewed those movies that they could afford on their low budget? Believe me, if they could get their cheap hands on \"Gone with the Wind\", they\'d put it down as well. Most of the time, it happens that low-budget movies are the crappy ones. But once in a blue moon, they can afford a foreign movie that is actually a classic but no longer has an expensive license because of its age and because original rights to it became a lot more \"relaxed\" for various reasons. Being completely oblivious to another culture, they\'d make the most idiotic conclusions and comments. Don\'t be so quick to say that the show should\'ve been taken with a humor. It\'s one thing when they degrade their own crappy and cheap american movies, and it\'s another when they group a charming classic from abroad with that sad bunch. I will not name any specific movies to avoid further arguments but there have been cases where a very charming lighthearted old foreign movie was given an absolutely unresearched ignorant \"review\" by MST3K.

Moreover, a certain \"biggest MST3K fan site\", which will not be named here, featured their own wannabe \"reviews\" alongside the official ones and they attempted to degrade every movie shown in this program even further. Certain interviews with MST3K reviewers and claims of close friendship between them and that site\'s staff appeared on that site, along with statements in their \"About\" section that anyone who disagrees with them is most likely not an intelligent person (yes, they actually wrote that). Wow, really \"intelligent\" people they are. It\'s no wonder that sad show has been cancelled due to low ratings. :D Yea, sure, they\'ve stayed on the air for years but so did \"Buffy: The Vampire Slayer\" *gags*. :P

You obviously did not pay much attention while reading the books then.  The movies leave out atleast half the death that occures in the books.

And while in your mind one person can not kill so many without being hurt you fail to take into account that such things have happened thrueout the history of warfare; and in truth still do.

Yes and no...

In the movie, Aragorn arrive in the Rohan and kill Orcs while he was running and everything are very quick he kills he kills he kills...

Sam Gamegie isnt hurt in the movie

Boromir is killed with ... how many arrows? 3 or 4? I cant remember and each time, he is able to come back to the battle... a real prince !

In the movie, I thought their travel was very short in the first part of their adventure... something like 2 days to reach Fondcombe...

and so one...

EDIT: I finally understood what do you mean... I didnt want to say there were too many deads I just wanted to say Orcs looks like punching balls : they arent really scaring in the movie because everyone is able to kill them especially our heros who kill them exactly like if they were puppets here to be hit...
ie: Aragorn... (look before)

Not unuseual in a melee battle

Don\'t remember him geting hurt in the books either; but then again that wouldn\'t be that unusual either.

Never seen sombody die in a fight before have you? What the movie is picturing at this point is someone though wounded fighting on because of courage, determination, and more than a little adrinalin.

In the movie a lot of the transitional fases were left out for time constraints and because they would\'nt make any cence in a picture format.

I liked The Day After Tomorrow too, but not because the real story/plot was good, but because I liked the premise.

I actually thought \"The Others\" was quite brilliant.  I mean come on - this had a plot twist that kept me guessing (unlike the 6th sense where I sat there going the psyciatrist is a ghost duh!).  IT had everything - suspense plot, and good acting.  Come on ----> Woman kills her children because she is a freaking psyco.  Woman kills herself.  Doesn\'t realize she is dead because she is so christian that she thinks its a blessing of god, and goes on living life as a ghost as do the kids who are dead.  All is happy - they get some nice dead housekeepers, and go on.  (Ok I admit the part where her husband came back was kinda weak). THEN the audience realizes that Everyone is a ghost, and the \"ghosts of the house\" are actually living people who have bought the house.  In this realization, the real ghosts spook out the real living people chanting \"We\'re not dead we\'re not dead\"  Talk about weird origional and creepy!

lol well actually I probabily did see only the American version and I did assume it was the only one.  It made no sense to me no matter how many times I watched it (4) and it was really boring.  It kinda reminded me of 21 Grams but without a plot or Sean Penn, or weird psycho christians who think god gave him his truck that he won in a drawing.  Perhaps the American version leaves out suspensful or at least vaguely intersting parts, or something plot crucial.  At this juncture I must now find and purchase some other version to watch because I cant STAND to not get a movie\'s point.  Plus the point of this thread was entertainment only, not intended as completely serious, just fun humor, satire, and discussion of B movies and the like.

Hmm.. movies that I dont like...

All Lifetime movies seriously.  They all have the same plot and I think the same actors too.

Beowulf.... I thought this movie was going to be cool with Christopher Lambert.. but I wasnt accounting for him being 60.. and the movie is just bad.

The last two Star Wars movies.  I thought they were just terrible... unless you really like eye candy... other than that I see no reason to really watch them.

hmm have to think some more.. bbs :).

Geez, you may work as a tester in sleep drugs factory then...Congratulations
- me, a person who has insomnia since I remember, after half an hour
of LOTR movie, I am sleeping like a dead man...
And about Green Mile...maybe that big guy was ok, but he was an idiot,
instead of using his super powers to kick butts of all bad guys, escape (or
prove his innocence) he was being a cry-healing mouses baby, the only
fragment of that movie, that actually had balls were when he took revenge on
that psychopatic jail guard. I even had a hope that the movie will be
interesting since then, but well, seems I was being naive. :P

I have a couple to add, though many of you may disagree with me.

War of the Worlds. (I just know from the synopsis that it\'ll be boring :p)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. (I\'m referring to the remake starring J Depp, who manages to portray Mr. Wonka as a Wacko Jacko type of person (if you believe all the reports about Jacko being a creepy person of questionable honour where children are concerned))

The original, which i believe was known as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and starred Gene Wilder was infinately better in my opinion.

I have to agree about the HP movies, they suck. The books are much better. :p

That is all i can think of at the moment....

I saw Logan\'s Run... when I was like... erm.. much younger can\'t remember when.. I remember a futuristic city, where people had some crystals encrusted on their  hands that changed color and when it reached a certain color they were killed in some weird ritual...
I also rememeber some cats...

The Day After Tomorrow was cool imo.

Movies that aren\'t worth to see.... hmm... can\'t remember the dang name of that horror movie, all I know is me and some friends have the habit of inviting girls to watch horror movies (for obvious reasons), erm... well... that movie totally sucked... will edit when I find the damn name.

oo oo oo! I want in!

(for a little background info, my buddy and I usually get all wigged out on the \'nip and watch bad movies and giggle until we pull a tummy muscle ...so, I am pretty much an authority!)

1 H.G. Wells\' War of the Worlds ...we both loved the book and weren\'t terribly impressed with the one with Tom Cruise, so we figured this had potential.
...it had the potential to make two highly intoxicated grown men sprint for the DVD player in a vain attempt to save what few brain cells we had left. The movie opened with a woman being naked ...granted, she was attractive and ...well ...naked ...but all the boobies and buns in the world couldn\'t save this dog ...save yourself the hairball and skip this one ...I can\'t swear the whole thing sucked ...we didn\'t watch much of it ...but enough to feel the vacuum

2 Skinned Deep ...ok, this one had Warwick Davis and all the usual horror accoutrements ...we figured booze, midgets, zombies and the occasional bucket of blood would equate to a little entertainment
WHOOOO baybee ...wrongo ...can\'t tell you precisely what was bad about it ...just \"it\" ...and ...I think I am scarred for life guess the rating would have to be \"not enough booze in the WORLD\"

on a more positive note: ...a bad movie that we absolutely LOVED was \"The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra\" ...holy CRAP ...we laughed so hard! (am pretty sure Dave fell off the couch at one point ...and know that Randy endured great trauma to his nose when he laughed while drinking whiskey )
It is a spoof on the old sci-fi B movies ...complete with bad acting ...cheap sets ...and the best special effects that 1950 had to offer (I love the visible wires on the skeleton) ...ROWR!

hmm, this is a bad idea for a thread, as people have different likes and dislikes, but oh well :P

a few flicks I hate, with a vengeance, and another vengeance...

well, it\'s hard ot name a few, so prettymuch anything my sisters clame is \"the best movie ever!\" :/ you know how it goes...

the lady killers.... the one with tom hanks i went to see that with my friends and it was soooo boring.

and another film i dont like is charlottes web, you know the one with the spider, no clue why though. prolly more that i dont remember.

though the thing is with alot of films is that there is alot of sitting around involved. i saw hitch the other day that was a lot better than i thought it would be.

another bad film that my brother rented was are we there yet (some kids film). one of those films where all the things that could go wrong do go wrong and its so obvious that its going to happen and then you just cnt watch it

Hey, Solaris is an absolutely stunning Movie.

But if you want some real bad movies, check most of the Sequels like :

Highlander II,III,IV,V,VI.....
Cleveland Indians II
Dusk till Dawn II ( III was ok )
...
