I would like opinions for what races are the best choice and what u would pick and for what reasons, i would just like a little info before i go choosing some race i don\'t like ;) thanks.
-
Race info is all found here http://www.planeshift.it/setting_races.html
The \"best\" race depends on what you would like to be..and I remember a topic like this..please use the search button. Thanks.
-
yeah i know that that is there but personnel opinions and actual player comments on the races are better.
-
I plan to be a spellsword..therefore I pick the enkidukai..For I beleive it gives enough agility strength and endurance to be a proficient warrior, plus enough will to become a good magic user...
If you plan to be a hardcore melee warrior try the kran. If your going for all magic then try the lemur (though i forgot which way it gives bonuses in) If you wanna be an all around type of guy, do ylian. If you plan to be a theif/spellsword I\'d recommend Enkidukai, though they have also proven themselves good warriors.
-
It\'s all a flaky area at the moment, read the race section of the manual looking at the stats and \"rules\"
Not all the feature are implemented, So even though theoetically we could tell you X race is good... that can all change with a simple update. it depend on what you want to do.
If you want to be a mage then the kran isn\'t going to be good with the 8th magic grade limitation... but that isnt implemented in the game yet, and from what i was told there isnt many magic spell out at the moment.
Just pick the race you find to be the coolest, or try them all out.
-
im planning on a klyros for alot of reasons.
-
Lemurs don\'t exist yet.
Magic does, but it\'s less than stealar... (ask me again after the update)
And yeah, Krans aren\'t magicians... I met one who started with 2 MP... spells cost 4... :P
Most likely, you\'ll still have to put off magic till you get well into the game. Magic is expensive, and takes a bit of traning.
-
No Maverik! Klyros are weak! Trust me my Kran could take them out in 3 hits, choose Krans! Trust me, high defense, high strength, good physical abilities and melee, trust me man, I don\'t want to lose a newbie to the dreaded Klyros!
-
yeah but i mean kran are to slow for me.......
-
actually Enkidukai is prob wut ill pick not krylos
-
Krans aren\'t slow using melee, agility only counts if using a weapon, if you use melee then you can impliment fast yet painful deaths :)
-
hmmmm maybe i just can\'t make up my mind about Enkidukai or kran.........
-
This is an embarrassing thread to post in, being so noobish and stupid, but I need to chuck my two tria in anway....All the races currently are reasonably equal, dwarves are strong, look cool, and immediately are well accepted into dwarven communities.
Krans....are...big rock things...really stupid but brutish. Excellent for noob killers like Kenti.
Enkudai have good agility, and are often good all rounders.
Ylians are all rounders
Ynnwns are in the middle...
And Klyros are weak...but they will be able to fly...soon.
-
Klyros is the way to go, they look cool
-
ya im going to choose Enkidukai deff, i don\'t care if krylos look cool they are weak and have nothign good except for fly which they don\'t even have yet.
-
This thread is a testament to the good nature of this community. Almost anywhere else, you would have been flamed halfway to hell for saying \"wut.\" Or just ignored. A lot of people might not even pay attention if they think you can\'t be bothered to type the word \"what.\" I have to admit, it makes me squirm to see it, but I\'m not going to be a jerk.
More on-topic, I would go with either race of Elf, or maybe Lemur, but I\'ve always been partial to the spellcaster archetype (and to Elves, for that matter). I have a Dermorian character (well, had, if they\'re wiping the database right now), and was going for red/azure mage. Of course, I am only just starting to learn how to play this game (beyond the obvious roleplaying elements, but anyone can do that), but that was my plan.
EDIT: Oh, and as for Klyros being weak...they are excellent roleplaying fodder, so they should fit right in with this game.

Actually...I wasn\'t in a flame like mood. And this thread is only peaceful cause Phinehas/Efflixi/Kiern havent posted yet...

first of all how the hell does \"wut\" bother you, its almost no diff the only reason i use it is because im used to talking to many people at once on AIM so it goes a little faster so now its secound nature to me, im sry if it hurt you.And i love the way the krylos look, it is good for this game.

It bothers one because on a forum there is sufficient time to spell properly. Not doing so expresses lack of respect to the readers who might have trouble understanding these abbreviations, especially if they are not native english speaking and maybe even have to rely on translators. Also, a lot of people simply dislike these abominations; it\'s like burping loudly.
Also, improper spelling, especially chatspeak, makes you look dumb, whether you are or not.
Be aware that ingame this way of speaking is not acceptable, because you are supposed to be a medieval-style character, who would obviously speak properly.
Edit: also be aware that you need a name that fits the naming rules. Maverik does not, so either use the name generator or make up something that your parents could realistically have called you.
-
Oh I forgot to mention, it was peaceful because Seytra hadn\'t posted yet either :D (It\'s a joke..It\'s a joke..*runs*)
-
this thread is starting to go a bit off topic .... =/
well when I started I picked klyros because i already had known ( from a friend) about what stage of developement the game was in. so i just run around basically killing a rat here and there :( .. but at least i have good stam. and speed with klyros so its easy to get around. i will probably change to something physically stronger later on because they do lack a little in that area.

I understand about IM chatting, because I\'ve had four or more chat windows open, myself, but the way I learned to deal with that was to type faster (a good skill to have in today\'s society, anyway). Referring to what Seytra said, you are obviously more intelligent than this manner of speaking shows you to be, and some people are liable to look down on you, and possibly even drastically underestimate your age and maturity, because of it. The fact that I was impressed with these people\'s tolerance should tell you something. On a message board, you are not expected to respond instantly. Even if using those shortcuts is second nature to you, go with third nature (or whatever), and take the time you have to put some care into the way you communicate, if nothing else, then as a matter of courtesy. It not only makes your posts easier to read for everyone, but it also allows you a bit more dignity in the community. Trust me (because I used such shortcuts myself, briefly), you can actually hold your head higher knowing that the face you are showing to the community is neither cheap nor ignorant.
P.S.- Seytra brought up another good point. While not actually morally offensive, those abbreviations are, rather like a loud belch, kind of rude, and simply bad manners.
Edit to include something on-topic in this post: The Klyros seem to be mediocre, all-around, with their strong points being in the special traits that they, as yet, still lack.

well when i get told by an admin i will change my name and i will not talk like that because you are right and Maverik is a perfect name for medeivel roleplaying in my opinion.
-
listen i really don\'t want to get on the bad side of everybody so please forgive me, I will not talk like that,But maverik is a good name.
-
I like the name Maverik adn wholeheartedly agree. Say how do you like my name for mideaval roleplaying?
Oh, and, what race would you reccomend to someone who wants to be a quick, agile swordsman with fair offence?
-
Thanks alot, i think your is great honestly, i like it alot, hmmmm if you want to find out you should look at the player guide, thats one way.
-
Thanks! I\'ll take a look around the guide and see what I see I guess! >_<

*smiles* Well, I didn\'t mean to be rude. My apologies, if I was. By the way, I may be wrong, but I could see Maverick as being a nickname in medieval times, although as an actual name, it\'s a bit iffy.
Siegheart: Enkidukai would work quite nicely for that, and the reputation for felines to be quick and agile really helps with the flavor of it, too. Nolthrir (Sea Elves) are only very slightly less quick and strong, and have much higher endurance and intelligence, so they are another option (although I\'m not sure they are available yet, at this stage in development). The name is great, though. :) Rethinking that, definitely Enkidukai, for flavor.

im not even a new player to this game yet(because i created an account and then found out the server was down) but coming from alot of mmorpg\'s i want to expand on what was said. maybe this will help to explain the distain you recieve from what ive always called either \"c00l speak\" or \"l33t speak\"
in a massive online role playing game you need at least 3 elements:
1 it must be online, im sure no one argues that
2 it must be massive, aka you want to log in and see alot of people in town
3 is the roleplaying part. this is where the distain for l33t speak comes from. see i cant make others roleplay. but when they do the game is more fun for me. when they dont really get into the roleplaying i can dig thier hesitence, but when they speak in a way that actually draws me out of the immersivness of the world then i dont even want to interact with them.
i would rather be Player killed by an evil raced player repeatedly then hunt with someone that says things like \"lez go get sum Ph@t L00T.. WOOT\"
but then thats just my opinion, and i am only a guy waiting to log into the game for the first time so i can be called a noob.
and on topic: the Ynnwn look to be an interesting races, even with the strong disadvantages i love to play a big beefy half demon trying to find his way in the world.
-
Welcome to the world of planeshift Breetai.
You will see that here the roleplay is really good (although some may argue with that) and i\'m shure you\'ll like Yliakum.

This is the kind of attitude we like to see, here! Welcome! Even though I\'m hardly qualified to give that welcome...:P BTW, just a technicality, but Diaboli are devils, especially judging from the literal meaning of their name\'s root word. But maybe only a D&D\'er would care that there\'s a difference...
-
Thanks for the compliment on the name! And I just may take your advice with the race when the server is back up. ^.^ Heh, I\'m just as much of a noob and really looking forward to playing Plane Shift! I saw some screenshots and read into it a little and I was already hooked by the time I was halfway through the players guide.

Ok I was laughing in my chair for about a minute over that. Whew........
-
In my humble opinion it doesn\'t really matter. Each race could be everything (well except the Kran being mage, or the Diaboli being priests, ...), I had some good experiences with Melee skill and Dermorians, but it probably isn\'t everyones piece of cake.
About \"wut\"...
Call me stupid or whatever, but I discovered the meaning of it not very long ago, and always wondered about it. I don\'t see how one letter slows you down so much that you have to remove it, ... It\'s one thing to shorten long phrases like \"In my opinion\" to \"IMO\" or \"Read the fine {*cough*} manual\" to \"RTFM\" but \"what\" to \"wut\", no ...
and yeah welcome breetai, ...
... About that Diaboli being Devils part, while the name shows a certain refference to devils, and they certainly have devillish features I won\'t consider them devils, they are as much \"natural evil\" as say Dermorians.
And last but not least, posting thread titles in CAPS is still extremely rude, no matter how short the title is.

I just have to say that if this is the kind of off topic conversation you are not wanting in the game from me. Then I wholehaertedly say IF YOU EVER see my chracter talk like this, TAKE HIM OUT,do not be merciful, please take the stupid thing out with a vengence. I would not ever like to speak that way for anything.
-
whatever you guys this isn\'t eben the topic so lets get off of \"wut\" and stop worrying about it, its over.......THE END. Will you stop after you like whip 5,000 times or are you just going to keep harassing everything?
-
Bringing things a bit more onto original topic... 8 )
This is just my personal opinion....But if going by how awesome they look, i would say either Klyros or Enkidukai. Srength-wise, Kran is one of the best choices. If you cant decide between the 2, you could always make 1 of each : ), which is probably what im gonna do.
It really depends on if you want the best in strength or looks. I believe you can have up to 4 characters on your account, so you could balance them out. Ya know, possibly have 2 accounts that are strong and 2 that just look completely awesome.
Kran are really strong and good for fighting, but, when going for looks, they look like giant gorilla statues... Hehe. (Metaphorically speaking), theyre not necessarily the prettiest crayons in the box... = )
Another suggestion (but a bit more work is involved) is to maybe experiment, then divide the races into 2 categories: Looks and strength, then further narrow your preferences down from there.
Make sure you have fun doing it, tho...Thats the important thing : )
-
I like Enkidukai because of there overall and agility and i liked there looks :)

Read the writeup about them (http://www.planeshift.it/razdia.htm). They are dark, seductive, \"malicious\", avoid holy places, and are devastated by holy weapons. Sounds pretty naturally evil to me, at least in the traditional sense of \"evil.\" Of course, I tend not to condemn anyone, so the fact that they\'re \"evil\" means next to nothing to me, except as a means to describe them quickly and efficiently. I\'ll probably play one, one of these days, actually.

Oh, but everyone loves to beat a dead horse...:P Seriously, no hard feelings?

A question, havn?t had time 2 play though i joined about 2 days ago when still the server was down so my question is:
Can you at this point of the game... or could you, before the update... be able 2 walk and swim in water??
For exampel the Nolthrir who has the ability 2 breath underwater is a meanless ability so far or not?..

I don\'t think the Nolthrir are even available yet. A lot of features have yet to be implemented, so yes, I think it is a meaningless ability, as yet. The Klyros also can\'t fly, yet, either, etc. I may as well invoke everyone\'s favorite phrase: \"pre-alpha.\"
