black screens keep coming up everytime i open planeshift or setup of the updater and everything keeps getting overwritten!!!! its like having ten players standing in the exact same place on planeshift
someone please help me!
-
WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHY THIS IS HAPPENING!!!
it saved a diagnostic file but when i submitted it it came back as unknown do you tink someone could analize it at all?
-
well its crashing consistently, as in every 5 minutes or so. Perhaps they are working on it.
-
I\'m getting the same thing, my updater and game are completely black with words overlapping eachother, I can\'t even get ingame...
-
Yes, the server is crashing and they are working on it. acraig said that the server is expierencing core dumps which cause psserver to crash. I can tell you right now that adding more exclamation points (!) to the end of your sentances won\'t help you get a response faster, nor fix the server.
-
Heh, I can get ingame, but I can\'t do anything for character creation with all the words overlapping eachother
-
I\'m trying to find a way around the black screen problem as i have it too, conventional methods found by using the search function arent working so far. hold on
-
ok good so im not the only one behind on this one does anyone not have this problem??
-
ok can everyone with this problem put up their graphics card specs? and try updating drivers
-
what do you mean by put up your graphic card specs
-
when i start the game the whole shit crashes
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
what cared do you have... jeez come on think for a minute it wont hurt!
my card is:
Geforce 4 mx440 SE 64mb
doesnt work with some higgher spec games randomly, but works with planeshift up until now fine, had updated drivers, just reinstalled updated drivers and am about to check if it works
EDIT: updating drivers doesnt seem to work either
-
ive got Nvidia Geforce 2 mx
i think its 64mb
it works fine with everything that is new up until 2003.
eg. morrowind, neverwinter nights
it has worked perfectly with planeshift until now
it doesn\'t work with higher spec games.
eg. i tried playing area 51 and it was white.
you gotta be kidding me!!!!
noooooooooo

Black screen problem is resolved by
...
:O
buying a better graphics card ;(
no im not joking, at first it was just some Radeon cards, also seems to be the lower end of geforce cards.
well, that screws it up for me
-
It seems to me that it\'s black as described in 32-bit mode, but in 16-bit mode, the problem seems to go away. Odd... So, is there anyone NOT having this problem?
By the way, I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000, or at least that\'s what it says in the device manager.
-
This is a crystal space problem. Forword this bug to them.
-
I have a GEforce4MX 440 with AGP8X 128mb graphics card running on the older 69.99 type driver. Updating does not help.
I not only have black screens but the menus like ping server show up without touching the button and the skin menu for the setup shows up normal with colored background, but words stay whenever you close the menu. I have seen this before when toying with menu to play new games. I tried the methods I know to solve the problem, but it still did not work.
-
THX FOR THAT INFO I DIDNT THINK OF TRYING THAT
GISAMUEL TRY CHANGING TO 16 BIT
-
This makes absolutely no sense. Demarthl I think you\'re wrong because I have INTEL 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics controller 64bit.. :p
This cars screws up in Descent3, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, and I dunno what else
But it works fine in PS. ?( The computer itself and the card and drivers ae less than a year old though. Mabye that means something.
-
did i say your freaky ass sounding intel thingy dowap da jiggy card didnt work?
i dont think i did, i said some radeons do it and by the looks of it some low end geforce mx4**\'s
-
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 with newest drivers uploaded
-
Ah. But you\'d think even a low end nvidia or raedon would b better than an intel..
Besides, it worked before the update right?
-
worked before update ...
got it working everone with this problem try changing to 16 bit
if you do not know how to go to my my computer and display and it should be under the last tab
-
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now its not loading does this have anything to do with the problem?? or is this an idepedent problem
When i open the game it woulnt load
-
changing to 16 bit worked for me but now i get around 1 fps
-
I too have had this problem...
It was resolved for me by going into the windows display settings, and setting the hardware acceleration to \"none\".
Hope this helps.
-
Actually, it looked like it was going to work,
then it froze on an error...\"Memory cannot be written..\" or the like.
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX4000----
-
i dont even have that option
-
Same problem GeForce4 MX 420. Changing to 16-bit works but sooner or later ends up in 1 fps in the game. For me, 32-bit works in the game, at least for the 3D graphics. The downside is that you can\'t see some of the 2d graphics like the graphics of the panels so you don\'t get some of the buttons etc...
So I get to choose: 1 fps or missing graphics. :/
I hope developers can find the problem and fix it, wasn\'t like this before. Other than that the update was good. ;)
EDIT:
I poked around a little in the r3dopengl.cfg file, uncommenting ( removing the ; ) from this line seems to help, but then the 3d looks messed up instead:
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_multitexture = false
-
I will try to download the client onto my laptop that is running windows and see if I can get similar behaviour.
-
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
I always get the bad bugs \"(
-
Nvidia GeForce4, gonna try my mx 4000 soon
-
I just downloaded the game, and I\'m having the same problem... except the screen is completely white. You can\'t see the mouse button or anything... Is it the same thing?

Actually I\'m not 100% sure this is a CS problem. I also have exactly the same problem on my computer (using a GF4Go) but Crystal Space works perfectly fine. I\'m currently investigating what exactly is going on so hopefully I\'ll find the cause of the problem soon.
Greetings,
-
Thanks Jorrit, I\'m having the same problem on my Geforce 4 MX.
-
Ok I have managed to fix it locally. Add the following two lines to data/config/r3dopengl.cfg:
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_NV_texture_rectangle = false
For me this makes everything perfect. Let me know how it goes for you.
Greetings,
-
Jorrit-
After entering those lines, mine worked normally. Thanks.
-
Works here aswell, thanks Jorrit! :)
-
Works for me too! Thank you Jorrit!
I\'ll post it in other topics too.

Greetings,
Hmm... interesting. I am glad you were able to find a fix though! I was probebly too quick to assume it was CS but I assumed the problem lied within CS because it is a rendering issue.
Also will this fix become default in the next update of Planeshift?
-
fixed it for me too. looks like we won\'t have to get new drivers!

Checking for it would be a better idea, if it\'s possible. Not everyone has a crap nVidia board.

That\'s true, but I wouldn\'t see any real disadvantage to non-nvidea users of having these settings as default. Maybe pssetup could include a \"nvidea gfx\" checkbox and you could check/uncheck as needed.
Also is this a bug with nvidea or not? A developer that knows more about rendering and stuff might want to tell nvidea what graphics function they used that caused this effect and let them know and maybe they can release an updated driver.

The way we will solve this in Crystal Space is by adding an entry to our driver/card database (data/config/gldrivers.xml) so that we can only disable those extensions on crappy GF4Go/440 cards :-)
Greetings,

I have been experiencing this fault on my PS installation on a Linux PC with this type of NVidia card and 1.0-7667 driver. I was directed to this thread from the PS Linux Forum, but your extra two lines for the config file did not fix it for me.
Just thought I\'d mention it!
-
Did you put it in both files? For some reason there are two of them on a Linux install, and I don\'t know which of them is used.
-
Dang it! I didnt know there was 2 of them.
Of course, PS uses the other one it uses; the one in planeshift/CS/data/config.
Now its working, thanks.

Ok, so I am the only one that this didn\'t work for? Grrrrr!!! Anything special I have to think about when I write it?
