Ok...I can connect fine at work, been on all day today...ssshhh...don\'t tell my boss. Problem is, when I get home, I click log in (says server is up). It gets to the character selection page, all it says is \"waiting on server\". Nothing ever loads. I turned off my firewall...any other ideas?
-
lucky. you can p[lay at work,
are you directly connected to the modem or do you have a router on your side?
and you\'re not doing anything wierd in terms packet filtering for port forwarding?
-
i\'m on a home wireless network on my laptop. The same laptop that I use on our wireless connection at work. I have a wireless hub at home (I assume that is the same thing as a router). As far as packet filtering or port forwarding, I don\'t know what either of those are, so I would assume that I\'m not inadvertantly doing either of them.
-
yeah wireless hub == router.
and yeah if you don\'t know you probably aren\'t.
the next step if to bypass the router and see if you can connect. if you can the it\'s time to give the router manu a call.
there are instructions here some place about the ports and stuff that have to be used 7354(and i know somebody will correct me if i\'m wrong) and udp for the protocol
-
Ok...you are going to have to dumb this down for me a bit. Are you wanting me to ditch the wireless and try connecting directly?
As far as ports and protocol, I wouldn\'t think that would matter since I was able to connect on this same laptop at work on a wireless network...but...of course...that could be way off ;-)

Ok...this time as it was saying \"waiting on server data\", it loaded my character\'s name, and the \"let\'s go\" or \"let\'s play\" or \"enter game\" or whatever the heck it is that shows up on the button you press to enter the game showed up...more than it\'s done before, but still didn\'t load enough to let me into the game.
-
Ok ok. The reason why you can get on work and not on home is because at home you have a firewall inside your router. Access the firewall and view the ports. On the ports page, do what steuben told you.
-
Ok...I promise...I\'m not a moron...just bit overwhelmed by all this stuff...a bit out of my league I\'m afraid. I turned off the microsoft firewall...how do I get to my router firewall to turn it off? Then how do I adjust my port settings?
EDIT: Figured out how to turn off the router firewall...says all applications allowed, DMZenabled, and all ports allowed. But.....still \"waiting on server data\". :(
-
you can always try turning it off. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1020489919 (thats what your work did, so everyone can have an internet connection)

Tried completely turning off the router firewall...tried just allowing the UDP port thingy that planeshift uses, still no go...same problems.
EDIT: It gives me this error if I wait long enough: Exceptional access violation at 00462CEE. Would you like to save a diagnostic file? I clicked yes, it saved a dump file.
