Fellow Citizens of Hydlaa,
It is I, Valbrandr, coming here on behalf of the Community of Vaalnor. We have taken up residence in your neighboring village, Ojaveda. If you have noticed the occupied huts, do not be alarmed. Before I continue and fill your heads with our tale, I would like to take this time to say that we hope to coexist peacefully in this realm that has plenty of resources to sustain both communities.
History
A short time ago, the Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR), were nowhere to be found in all of Hydlaa, or Yliakum for that matter. Gone without a word to their respected friends from various guilds, an entire guild vanished overnight. After what seemed like a short lifetime in Yliakum, Induane and Valbrandr stumbled into the tavern with tattered clothing that whispered of a perilous journey. They were welcomed in and promptly served by Flare, the bartender. Flare began to open his mouth but before he had the chance to speak, Induane and Valbrandr had taken their seats by the fire. Flare instinctively went back to his duties.
As Induane and Valbrandr sat quietly by the fire, allowing an occasional grumble to pass through their closed lips, the tavern door slowly opened revealing the Ylian inch by inch. It was Ashamn, followed by Lordbug and Jekkar. The group moved to the bar, catching a glimpse of the battered men down by the fire with no recognition of them as their (Induane and Valbrandr) heads were down, staring into their ale. As Ashamn, Lordbug and Jekkar engaged Flare in conversation, Flare ducked his head down a little and meekly pointed over at the two exhausted men.
Sheer excitement rushed over the three men as they didn't even use the stairs, jumping over the ledge to embrace their good friends. However, they didn't find Valbrandr as plump and jolly nor Induane making his usual off the wall comments as each had been/done in the past:
Lordbug: "Hiya!"
A few seconds passed by as they waited for Val to say the usual, "Hey, how is everyone today?" But nothing. Induane and Valbrandr seemed as if they did not notice their old friends. Ashamn was the next to step forward and try to arouse the two men:
Ashamn : "Is the URPS still alive Val? I have some new ideas that could..."
But still nothing. Not a "Ashamn how is Port Calem doing?" or anything. Jekkar was the last to speak.
Jekkar: Juicy Fruit, we need you. The FA would not be the same without your presence.
As Jekkar finished, Induane and Valbrandr looked up at one another and finally Induane began to speak:
Induane: We sent for help.
Ashamn : Huh? You mean the settlement that was attack some weeks ago?
Valbrandr: And decimated? Yes. No one came.
Lordbug: We didn't know it was you. If we had known..
Induane: What does it matter who asked for help? So, it could have been another man or woman from this realm? Possibly someone you still would have known!
Jekkar: That is how it has become around here. Have you been gone so long you don't remember the deterioration of the community?
Valbrandr: Has it come to such things?
Lordbug: Well...
Valbrandr : You were right Induane, it is time for us to take leave of this place.
Ashamn : Huh? You are leaving Hydlaa?
Induane: We feel that we must. We came back to pick up our things and to invite the few good souls left in Hydlaa to come with us to our new dwelling, Ojaveda.
Lordbug: I thought Ojaveda was inhabited by thousands of Enkidukai?
Valbrandr: It is, The good people of Ojaveda drug the few of us who survived to safety inside of their walls. We are indebted to them. They have offered us huts to stay in as long as we feel comfortable there and of course we labor in the fields beside these dedicated workers. I think now is the best time for this. We are going to rebuild what we have lost.
Mission Statement
The Community of Vaalnor is a community with no hierarchy: no lower class or aristocracy. There is only a unified entity exemplified by three characteristics: Duty, Loyalty, and Honor. Our main concern is the community, not the individual. Even the land in which we dwell belongs to the whole.
We are a close knit community that spends our time helping one another. At times we may be viewed as selfish because the community comes before outsiders. The success of the Community of Vaalnor will be exemplified through each member of the society. We shall grow together and gain influence but not through military means. The Community of Vaalnor is going to take advantage of what we do best: Trade, Hunt, and Craft.
The Community of Vaalnor
Allow me to make one thing clear, this is an evolution. We are, and will always be the Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR). The Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR) will retain all our alliances and our alignment, Chaotic Neutral. Much has changed in the structure however, which you will soon see. This is just one step in the process of establishing ourselves.
Guidance of Vaalnor
The village will be governed by the Village Council made up of village elders. The Council members themselves have no power. They are merely representatives of the various classes of members. The Council is empowered by the community, and exists solely to benefit the community: It is their Duty. If any member of the Council is discovered attempting to use his position for personal gain, he will be immediately expelled from the Council, with further punishment to be decided on by the Council. Each member is required to have his own full-time job. The Council has basic powers which include, but are not limited to settling disputes among members of the community, granting requests for secondary jobs to members of the community, setting rules of conduct for the community, and controlling the Guards of Vaalnor.
There will be one Council member for every five citizens. An equal balance of Council members will be kept at all times representing the Artisans, Gatherers, and Merchants. Members of the Council are members for life or until they cannot sufficiently do their job. New members will be voted on by both the Council and the citizens. Two-thirds of both have to agree that this member can handle such a duty. Council members can be removed from office by a two-thirds vote from either the Council itself or the citizens. Induane, Lishom, and I, Valbrandr, will be the first Council of the Community of Vaalnor. In addition, to make a decision, half of the Council must be present.
Vaalguard
For the protection of our community from outside forces, the Community of Vaalnor has created the Vaalguard. Guard duty is mandatory for each able-bodied member of the community, male or female that is suited for combat. The Captain of the Guard will assign shifts to those suited, which must be fulfilled without fail unless the individual is pronounced physically incapable by the Captain or one of the Council members.
Suited: Members whose main jobs would prevent them from being exceptional guards: Miners because of the strenuous work performed daily and the Bartender because his/her job would not keep them in fighting condition. Other merchant jobs will be on a case by case basis.
Primary Jobs
Each village member is required to have one full-time job of his/her choice. This is to be his main responsibility in the community although he/she is allowed to take on other responsibilities as he/she believes himself/herself capable and with the sanction of the Council. The jobs that are necessary for the survival and success of Vaalnor are: (1) Artisans of all kinds and their apprentices, (2) Gatherers: whether it be through Mining or hunting, (3) Merchants of various sorts, (4) Scholars: Individuals studying the different fields of Magic, and (5) Explorer: people who would care to search out the land instead of slaying its monsters. When an individual is desirous of taking a place in the community, he is required to submit his job description to the Council to assure that he is fulfilling a necessary and valuable task within the community.
They include, but are not limited to:
(1) (1) Artisans: They are, but are not limited to:
Smiths, Masons, and Architects
(2) Gathers:
Hunters and Miners
(3) Merchants:
Shopkeeper, Innkeeper and Barkeep
(4) Scholar :
Members studying fields of Magic
(5) (5)Explorer :
Cartographer
Secondary Jobs
Members of the community may apply to hold certain offices in addition to their chosen vocation. The final decisions are made by the Council, and only the Council has the power to appoint or remove an individual to or from any office.
The term Secondary Jobs refers to, but is not limited to:
Village Council, Bard, Inventory Manager,
Captain of the Guard, Village Guard,
Banker, healer, guide

Wow.. 8o
Great goals.. A lot of originality too (It\'s the frist time I see a comunity beeing created), amazing social organization.. I\'m speachless, great job you guys have done here..
Good luck (you wont need it, I dare to say ;) )
-
i....envy....you...so much!
Can i be a member of the group, though i am in Knowledge Seekers?
-
Allow me to talk with a few members first to see what they think about it. And I am sure LB wont have any problem with it. I will contact you either today or tomorrow Taser :).
And btw, our site will be changed in the next week to accomodate the Community of Vaalnor.
-
Well Valbrandr, if you ask me she should join.
And has the whole \"village idea\" been disbanded or just moved backwards?
-
It is an evolution of ideas nothing more. I will work on mapping out the village itself though for right now we are residing in Ojeveda.
-
Very nice, good Sir. I see a great future in the rebirth of your guild. Written out clearly and detailed.
-
It really looks promissing indeed! Good luck with finding suitable members.
-
You are too kind friends. We hope to recruit members who plan on being involved within the Community... but those people are hard to find :(. We will work hard to see these ideas succeed.

I plan on being active within the community..(subtle hint)
I love the idea Val.
The whole community thing is genius. And I already live in oja too :O (second subtle hint)
I dunno...the idea of a private community like we all talk about (\"small village on the outskirts of ) is incredible, and I\'d like to be part of this incredibleness thingy :D \\o/ pick mee.
-
Sutble.. I still dont get it :D
I see no problem with you joining Robin. But I would just like to clear a few things up. We want a certain type of people. Not excluding anyone really... but we want people who understand that this is all about the community. In essence, to put aside our petty squables and whatnot and focus on the community as a whole. The community is most important, thats why I stay with PS. I feel comfortable with all of my friends here. Im sure its the same reason many of you stay.
One more thing :), we are growing at a healthy rate. Ashamn joined CoV (The actual ingame guild), Taser has taken up residence here as well as Robinmagus. This brings our numbers to around 13 or so. If you want to join just contact one of our members either ingame or on the forum :D
This is a short list of the most active people to contact: See you soon
Robinmagus
Taser
Ashamn
Induane
Lishom

While I don\'t think I would like to join a \"privite\" comunity I would like to extend my hand in friendship to your group. If you ever feel the need for a little extra support don\'t hesitate to call upon the Darschis Knights to aid in your defence.
-
Well Valbrandr, you could deem me as active on the forum only, you know my Inet...
-
I would not consider this \"Private.\" We are not some exclusive group that only the best in whatever can join. It is for anyone that enjoys rp. Not private just separate from Hydlaa :).
-
*sniff* Beautiful *a lone tear of joy runs down Sangwa\'s face*
Can\'t say it\'s a surprise to see Valbrandr do something as nice as this Community of Vaalnor, not after seeing his efforts with URPS.
I wish you the best of luck.
The Community of Vaalnor is a community with no hierarchy: no lower class or aristocracy.
This part makes it hard for an imperialist to join.
-
But on the other hand easy for an free spirited person to join.
-
*Phinehas smiles to himself at all the praise Valbrandr has received.*
Indeed Valbrandr, you are truly a genius to have thought up something so unique and original. It is a shame I couldn\'t be a part of it at this point in time, but we shall see...
-

Never the less the Darschis Knights belong to all of Yliakum, not just one group.

Dont worry friend, I told many people who helped with ideas and who spent many hours working most of the details out. But from when you last seen it, it has changed considerably. What do you think of the direction?

Are you sure Sangwa? Have you taken on the face of your guild or is that what you believe (Imperialism) ?
-
I really like the ideea, it is great, and if somebody would accept me i would like to be a part of this comunity if this is not conflicting in any way with my guild dutyes or alignement.
Congratulations again for this great ideea.
-
Yes friend, you may join the Community. We have already talked about what is expected of you. Do your best to represent CoV and I hope that you feel comfortable here in Ojaveda :)

This is about freedom and equality amongst your peers fken. There will be no one watching over you at all times. If you have read over everything above fken, then I have no problem with you becoming apart of this Community. But just remember, this Community is not mine, it is ours... it is what we make of it. And there is no need or little need to have meetings here and there to show that we are apart of it. No one will get kicked for inactivity. Dont feel presured to always be around. But when you can make it to Yliakum or the forum.. remember that you are representing your Community. It will become what we make it.
Welcome fken to the Community of Vaalnor!
-
Hmm looks like someone moved into my old residence. :P
Magnificent idea guys! I really think that this could work and would wish you the best of luck but ...
I \'d rather join myself and help out this community in every way I can, even though I \'m still willing to help out the grander community as well the CoV would be a great platform to work from I believe.
Aside from that I \'d also like to join with my second character Giorn Kleaver, a simple dwarven miner hoping to become an artisan some day. I think he could definitely be of some use.
-
I think I speak for the whole Community of Vaalnor when I say, welcome on board Zan, welcome on board.

Interesting, but I think in a different way than what you and me had talked about. It\'s good, but I\'m glad that I didn\'t end up joining.
-
but I\'m glad that I didn\'t end up joining.
Actually you did join but had to leave. And thats fine, there are alot of good people surrounding me :D .

Indeed. I wish you well with it.

I thank you Phinehas. Its too bad everything didnt go as planned but rl seems to do that every now and then.
And btw, until Lishom has a little time we are currently using the Sentinels of the Ragnarok forum board. It will only be temporary and and info here will be transfer to our new site.

There has been a forum board created on our site for now specifically for CoV. I am moving some of the topics over as we speak. You can use the link or click on SoR Forum and scroll down.

Also to note is that we have a preliminary layout for the CoV town Vaalnor. I also have almost finished our dwellings and a town hall is in the works, Valbrandr has seen preliminary screenshots, but I\'ll release more of those later on for everyone to see. Doubt it has a chance of being integrated but I\'ll get it all ready for CS and see how it goes :)
-
Welcome to Planeshift.
I hope you will have a nice play ingame :)
-
I\'m sorry dear sir, but you confuse me. To say welcome to planeshift implies that you are welcoming a new friend to your land, yet we have been here since the days of the great crystal hunt, knows as Molecular Blue.
Play nice ingame?? :)
I wonder if perhaps you misread us, and believe us to be new the the area, when in fact The Sentinels of the Ragnarok are far from new. Community of Vaalnor is simply our latest guild initative.
-
Ohhh this sounds so... so... NICE!! ... sniff* brings a tear to my eye.
-
Do you have any objections if I join?
I used to play Molecular Blue alot (and earned something like 6000 gold (Tria?)), but only ever played Crystal Blue for a few days.
Even if you do accept me into your community, I probably wont be of much use at the start, as I\'ve still got to get used to the controls, etc.
Anyway, excellent idea, and great work!
Let us hope this works.
-
I would like to speak with you first of course. Just to make sure you understand what the CoV stands for. But I see no problems with you joining if we want the same end. I hope to talk with you soon friend.
Edit: I will be looking forward to it.. If you would like for now join our forums to see what we are up to.

Understood.
I wont be able to play for a little while yet, as a HDD crash forced me to re-download Planeshift.
I will contact you when I\'m able.
Thanks.

Hello to everyone. My name is Archon, both on the forums and ingame.
I started PS not too long ago, perhaps two or two and a half weeks ago. When I first started, I joined a guild called Death Bringers, all though they were nice, they were not what I was looking for.
I needed a place to expand my career as a merchant. Some of you have seen my post on the forums and a few posted. I found CoV, a great and continuously growing community, roughly one week into my adventures.
Since that day, I have been working as a merchant in the community and have adapted to PS quickly. CoV has given me EXTREME amounts of help in all fields including sales, items, prices, etc.. My career has shot up and I am begining to become a lot more known where ever I go in PS.
In fact, I am currently teaching two new members (one is going to join CoV but has yet to talk with Val) on how to become a merchant. People all over who visit me spread the word of the Shop!
This community is everything I\'ve expected and much MUCH more. I\'m glad to be a part of this community and plan to be for very long time.
-
I;d like to comment of the load of stuff you got in your shop archon, heaps of variety and it awesome stuff, very good shop for people wanting a good weapon
-
I am glad that Archon is staying supplied.. but were his prices fair, which is more important. If we expect to be a successful Community we cannot cheat the public... whether the person is from Hydlaa or CoV.
-
As soon as I get xorg working properly in my development linux box, I\'ll be ingame more. On Friday evenings, saturdays, sundays, and mondays, I\'ll be available to helo with the store. I wonder about using the auction to tell people about our wares. Also, perhaps we need a traveling merchant to take up the tast of spending some time in Hydlaa with some of the supplies. This could lead to more trade. I think a tradeline between our main shop in Oja and a shop in Hydlaa will also add a nice element to the game. Dealing with real merchants is much nicer than NPC merchants as this allows for real bartering, and gossip and everything else that goes with real people talking with real people.
-
darkw00t, I thank you for your comments, I\'m glad that I please the public, as that is my goal!
Valbrandr, my prices are based on the economy and what I buy my weapons for. I get deals quite a bit and I also give deals. I hope my prices are fair and I\'m open to comments regarding such. The last thing I want to do is rip off the people of PS.
Induane, I agree with your idea. Traveling merchants would be very nice. Once I get my brother (Yajuu) completely set up to become a merchant, I will have him to such. This i a great was to increase business and word of the shop.
-
The Akkaio tavern will be recieving some much needed attention in the coming weeks. The Community of Vaalnor has decided to revive this establishment.. hoping that with a little hard work, kind souls will once again frequent The Broken Door.
Until my friend Cyl can take over, I will be the Barkeep at the present. If you have time, and you are stopping by Akkaio, come and visit us. We definately look forward to seeing you!
*Valbrandr goes back to cleaning off the tables and sweeping the floors
Edit: We had a very good morning... many good friends decided to stop by and visit:

Yes, we are definately making the most of our temporary residence in Akkaio. But with the help of our members, a new home is beginning to take place. Hume is making small trinkets and the like for our town. I need our artisans to begin work. We need rugs, pots, pans, weapons, decorations, etc.. everything to create the town of Vaalnor. Already the construction workers (again namely Hume and Induane) are hard at work. Here is a small shot of their progress.

IC:
Ahh hello friend. Before I give a strait answer I would like to talk with you first. But I assume everything will go quite well and soon enough you will be able to take up residence with us here in Akkaio :).
OOC:
Put me on your buddy list.. and btw I am in game now :P.
-
CoV members are very good... they are nice players and good people to play with... Archon, Sprakus and Joleterie have all been good members..so i personally think the CoV is a high standard guild
-
Darkw00t, I thank you for your kind words! We try hard to be nice (yes we try hard because some people like Val are so mean by nature. Just kidding! Val is one of the nicest people on PS, so no spreading rumors!)
CoV is high standard in a way that... We work hard, so we get great results. Our best members work hours on multiple projects and we get a lot of output in our efforts!
Riowyn, as this is a late post and you joined CoV all ready, welcome to the community! We\'re glad to have you!
-
A mug for you!
Welcome to the community! We do our best to make it an enjoyable place to be, and I hope that you are with us for a long time to come.
-
We have added two new primary jobs: Scholar, for those who prefer to study magic, and Explorer: for those we would rather for those who like to.. well.. explore :), and a few secondary jobs such as: Healer, Guide, Banker, and Cartographer (Some of these jobs are completely RP of course).

A Banker? Where can I find your bankers? I\'m in a desperate need of some trias, so I really would like to talk with your banker and get some credit 8)
-
Haha, im not sure, but at the present it is just in guild only. Trying to set up a bank that loans people money outside of the guild could be very difficult though in the not so distant future we may think about it. And if you dont pay, we can spam you with tell messages :).

Well, it may require some background checks. The person has to prove first that he/she can be trusted.
Being a member of a guild may add credibility, or members of some nasty guilds will never get money.
Then you could have a credibility list of persons. A list of persons who can be trusted and another with persons who can\'t be. Guilds may start checking your credibility list before accepting new members.
And there will be always some risk involved, but hey, that\'s the fun about it :P
-
In game, to determine how much a person can get a loan for.. we are setting up IGQs(Inner Guild Quests) and with the completion of the quest he/she will be rewarded with Guild Points. And in a way this will be the credit. There will be other ways to gain points as well and the Council would likely still have to approve it. But no dictatorship here so that never seems to be a problem :).
-
Actually, I think that thats a really cool idea! The only problem is that a trusted/untrusted list would be too hard to maintain, but perhaps we can wing that part, and just only lone lots of money to people who have proven their trust by paying back smaller loans with interest.
-
I do like the bank idea. The IGQ I all ready mentioned I liked it. :P. Anyways, I have a similar list of who cannot be trusted for my shop. Those on the list, I refuse business to. This list is obviously confidential(sp?) and is only shown to myself, and council members if they want to know. It\'s also shown to fellow CoV merchants who would like to know.
I could start a banking system actually withen the shop. Using my own money to begin of course just in case I run into greedy people. I\'ll continue my list and add a section for trusted folks.

All members of The Community of Vaalnor:
Anyone who wants a signature picture that matches ours, we have created one for every one of you! No one has to use it of course - but we thought this would add to the community spirit: Rather than pollute this thread with a jillion pictures - I give you all a link where i did it in our own forums:

Sadly.. I won\'t be able to run the shop for a while. There were some difficulties which resulted in the computer being completely wipped. I lost everything.
This means I won\'t be on Planeshift at all until I get net in my room, not just the living room. Until then, please be patient. I hate not being able to be among the Yliakum community.
-
Fear not Archon! Whenever you can make it back is fine. Until then, we shall miss you in your absence.
-
It\'s 11:40am MN time, did plexus just go down!?
-
Hmm.. I thought it was my internet at first. But it seems so. Lishom will fix the server as soon as he knows about it which is usually the same day. Last time he just had to reset teh server.
-
Yeh, I noticed the same..
One day without pleXus! Woohoo! :D
meh.. I need to spam and act like an ass somewhere..
*Ashamn thinks for a while*
Come back pleXy!!
:(
-
Yes, our guild server is temporarily down. In the meantime I have created a irc channel for us on freenode. Its irc.freenode.net #CoV it will act as our temporary chatroom.
-
Our website is back up and running after about a week of being down - its nw business as usual :D
-
We are currently constructing a new site - alot will change but the basic structure is in place, login works, and the forums have been transfered feel free to check it out http://www.plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/index.php
-
Nice sig. Thanks Induane. Guys I will lose internet near the 27th of this month but should be back around the 15th of January. :D See everyone soon.
Aranis
-

i just wanted to note that the site is by no means finished yet, basically just the layout structure is more or less implemented. until we announce that it\'s ready, please use the old CoV/SoR/URPS site, located at:
http://www.plexus.shacknet.nu/ps/index.php
but with the link to the new \'site\' you can watch the progress of developing it ;)
-
Yea - I just get excited easily - and was really liking how it was looking. Obviously it is not close to finished - but the progress made already is tremendous. Thanks for all your great work!
-
Awesome! Website is looking great and I\'m sad to hear you\'re leaving us Aranis but like Val said ... we\'ll be here when you come back ;)
-
Hmmm... I believe Plexus is down again... After about 10 minutes of waiting for the IRC to connect to the server, I went to investigate and everything plexus related it down.
-
Lishoms working on the new site.. I believe he had taken down the site momentarily but now its back up as is the chat :D.
-
We are having a meeting that all CoV Council members need to attend and any other members that can make it. It will be in the #URPS Chat on December 17th at 1:00 PM GMT -6. If you have any quesitons please contact me via PM here or on our own forums.. Thank you.
ITS TODAY!!!.. in 3 and a half hours it will be time for the meeting. Hope to see all CoV members there. :)
-
Meeting is today! I better see some names there people or I\'m gonna go medieval! :)
-
Well, first meeting was canceled thanks to internet trouble at Vals end... and then somehow I missed the rescheduled meeting the next day... sry..
Anyhoo - I\'m going to be absent for about 4-6 days during the hollidays. I\'ll probabily be a bit scarce in chat if I\'m there at all, and I won\'t be ingame at all or posting anywhere. I\'ll return quickly though so no worries.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hollidays to everyone. I think hanukkah falls on the same day as christmas this year too which is cool.
I\'m OUT!
-
Think you should know some turkish dude has hacked our website! Putting up a large picture (stating we have conpsired against turkey and its goverment) blocking all of our site\'s navigation bars. He says hi will sort it out but thatb what happend is a warning and he\'ll do it again.
THis is not a joke!
edit:
This site is Hack?d By T?uf?L For making action again TURKEY republic or bing with groups which are supporting this type of even. This is our first warning for you if you countine to make same thing we will hack this site more time. You will join us or we will destroy you. T?uf?L wa??hhh Here
this is whats he has wrote
-
Yeah our site has been hacked sadly.. I need to get with Lishom and see what we can do about it and how we can attempt to stop it from happening again. Im kinda at a loss for words.. didnt even think about this happening.
-
Bastard.
This really sucks..
=|
-
That\'s one of those things that happens when you use PHP-Nuke... I had a php nuke site once, but after a few months it had been hacked by some silly brazilian vandals so I switched to something else... php nuke has lots of sql injection vulnerabilities, so either you need a \"security module\" of some kind that watches and deters attempts to exploit them, or you should switch to a different content management system. If you have alot of stuff on your current site in the phpnuke database that you don\'t want to/can\'t copy over to another system, you should try to find a security module thing. Overall, it would be better to find a different content management system.
Some of the more popular ones include:
xoops
tikiwiki (used by the main crystalspace site and crystalcommunity site)
mambo/joomla (used by the feline\'s lair along with an extension that adds phpBB)
PS-MC uses a phpbb forum in conjunction with WordPress... We havent\' been hacked, but on the other hand nobody much seems to know or care about our existance :P
josePhoenix
-
We have another site in progress.. it was nearly finished using Mambo. But Ill have to get in touch with Lishom and see where he wants to go with everything. What gets me is that we are just a PS Guild.. why would someone even bother with our site... it obviously makes me think its someone who would know us though I didnt know we had made any enemies of that magnitude. But we will get things back in order soon enough :)
-
The Dark Empire has finally started their attack on Ojaveda ;)
Ugh hackers are very annoying indeed. Don\'t see really what the fun is in it. I mean I can imagine it being fun knowing you can do something like that but to ruin someones fun and work..... I just can\'t see it.
Hope you will get the old or the new site back up soon Val.
PS: congrats on making GM. Don\'t believe I posted that yet ;)
-
The site has been \"unhacked\", the large picture opbscuring everything has gone.
-
Good to hear :)
-
Pesty dude, that\'s not a good joke.
There\'s not much to laugh at when we\'re talking about people ruinning other people\'s work.
-
Well atleast it was fixed for now.. but ya time to get that Mambo site up and running before something else stupid happens.
-
*injects the obligatory comment*
Backups!
Valbrandr: These stupid hacking groups use scripts, as far as I can tell. It\'s easy as can be to find PHP Nuke installs, and there\'s a fair chance they will be unpatched or not properly secured. Just look here... Google Search Results (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Web%20site%20engine%20code%20is%20Copyright%20%C2%A9%202003%20by%20PHP-Nuke.%20All%20Rights%20Reserved.%20PHP-Nuke%20is%20Free%20Software%20released%20under%20the%20GNU/GPL%20license.%22) (er.. that link doesn\'t want to work but just do a search for \"Web site engine code is Copyright ? 2003 by PHP-Nuke. All Rights Reserved. PHP-Nuke is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL license.\", that\'s in the footer of every php nuke site out there :P) Out of 3,680,000 results they can attack willy-nilly :P I doubt they even cared what your site was about, I had a site that I used to post homework assignments and keep up with friends, and they hacked that ( that time it was brazilians >.> )
josePhoenix
-
If I remember correctly our sites host, plexus, is banned from google. I never could get it to show up anywhere on it. I think it has something to do with other parts of the server hosting copyrighted material :D Not sure though.
Anyways yea - mambo seems to be the way to go, plus we have a nice mambo add on that will let us import all of our old stuff - forums, etc - to it.
-
yeah that hack sucked! it was not very sophisticated but it cost me about 3 hours to get everything back - thanks to nuke... via SQL injection as described by josephoenix, they modified the admin account and set up a big admin message (inside div tags for those who know it) containing said text. i had to set everything back in the database directly, now the site is back to normal. i also could plug the whole they went in, so at least this method wont work any more.
so yes, we where working on the new site on MAMBO, not only for security reasons but also because it is much more comfortable to work with. we also made a first draw of the site, which we never finished \'cause we decided to start all over and try a different layout. well, and than i discovered Guild Wars, some of you may know it - and since then im spending almost all my freetime in Tyria (the time i usually dedicated to CoV ;)).
it is still catching and i cannot say when i will cool down and start doing other things with my life. when that time comes, i will continue work on CoV\'s new website - though i have no idea when this might be ;)
-
I can understand Lishom. There are many people who just cant play Planeshift or who just like variety. Im sure we will talk soon enough about the new site.. Ind had some ideas.
-
Among other things yes....
Anyways this is a quick notification taht the vaalnor server is again running for ftp access, so all those working on our project can once again login. The address is no longer ftp:/vaalnor.shacknet.nu though it is now vaalnor.mine.nu - everyones login should be the same user and password. Guest is disabled so no one can view without permission.
-
Kudos on having a site that is very attractive. Once you get more up, I\'ll have to come back and read all the interesting guild triva I\'m sure you\'ll add to the site :D.
-
If we could hurry and finish our new site :).. ahh but guild trivia? Good idea. Sadly most things in Yliakum are a bit slow during this period.
-
Slow? No I\'ve just been slacking off - - - its all MY FAULT
WAAAAAaaaaaah
OK ..... Ummm.... Sorry about that... :D
-
Alert everyone, Induane is now a ruby crystal.
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=22123&boardid=13&styleid=2
Check that link to understand why.
-
WOW your brilliant Induane ;)
-
Thanks! I am really starting to feel special!
Anyways to all who havn\'t noticed I havn\'t been ingame much though I\'ve been active in guild chat and in the forums. Truthfully I got a little burned out on actually playing, but I\'m getting itchy to play again so I\'ll update and hopefully see you all ingame. Induane is desperately in need of some adventuring, trias, and training anyways - so this is long overdue.
-
hey incase you dont remember its Gortek Sizzlack from ages ago, just started playing again. thought i post here and say hi, seen as i couldnt log on to the actual site, please could you post a link incase i have an old version. Oh and are they any main updates inguild and ingame i should know about????
-
Heres the link:
SoR Site (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/ps/index.php)
But as for whats going on in CoV... Personally I have been inactive lately.. just coming to the forums and the chat room. Life has been a little crazy. But I am sure I will see you around.
-
CoV still lives though, I can assure you that. That\'s the great thing about a community .. even when one of the key figures gets a busy period in life, the rest of us still roll along ;)
Glad to see you back, Gortek!
-
your forums didn\'t work for me so...
I\'d like to have the Hydlaa Mining Company supply the community with ores jems and crystals. We\'ll be selling them at discount prices from average NPC costs (how much they sell for) given that the community buys these in bulk. Even if you don\'t use them and just resell them, it\'ll make the merchants of Vaalnor a good bit of tria. PM me if you\'re interested and I\'ll give ya prices, availability, etc.
Thanks.
-
Yeah I can add you to the group that can see the forums. It is set to private as of now. I think Zan would be the best person for you to talk with... but we can carry that over to our forums ;).
Edit: but you will have to make sure and join the forums.. unless your under a different name?
btw is our site acting funny for anyone else? I cant seem to log in as the admin and it keeps asking me if I want to Download something ?(
-
Yeah Val, I mentioned that same problem on IRC yesterday. There is definitely something wrong with the website if you ask me. I can\'t log out anymore or make any new threads and don\'t download that file, it\'s infected.
Anyway Golarim we\'d gladly do business with the Hydlaa Mining Company but you\'ll have to give me some time to work a few things out as our warehouses are currently filled with other goods.
If you\'d like to discuss the details I suggest we either try to organise a meeting in-game or we use the PM system here ... as long as our forums seem to be acting up anyway.
-
By the way, if you all haven't caught on yet, the Vaalnor Shop is coming back! Same shop building in Ojaveda.
/me has items for Zan. He caught a good deal on fair weapons.
I also have more trias Zan. We'll talk next time I catch you.
Edit: New!! Vaalnor Shop Website!!
http://www.vaalnorshop.co.nr
-
Great work Archon! The store seems to be working well right now. Keep it up! I'll keep donating my good loot as I grab it. Also, perhaps we can work on the sites layout this weekend or something. I think a php site would be good. We don't need forums or anything but you could make a even more useful layout.
-
Agreed, I'd like to get myself into php. I honostly do not like geocities at all. A better site will make it look more professional, which is what I want. Looking foward to it!
-
Archon dont forget about UoC!!
-
Don't worry we have not forgotten. :D Archon and I were speaking of you all quite recently. We've some ideas and can probabily help you all out a little bit.
-
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/vaalnor/Raw%20Textures/
I have started a small collection of images for texturing. I've taken all the photo's myself with our digital camera, so there can't be any any issues with licensing or anything :D
Anyone who is working on the vaalnor project is welcome to follow the link above and check them out or use them.
-
I like them ^^. I'll have to give you some more suggestions later on. I'll take a few myself whenever possible.
-
Val, rename this thread to Vaalnor Council - Community of Vaalnor. just like vaalgaurd. that way we look organized :D
-
Can you actually rename threads? It wasn't possible on the old forums... perhaps these new forums have some new tricks?
-
yea you can. I originaly changed the UoC thread to UoV....but all the info i gave didnt really match the name so i redid it.
-
check out our empty division forums:
vaalgaurd.jconserv.net (http://vaalgaurd.jconserv.net)
unionofvaalnor.jconserv.net (http://unionofvaalnor.jconserv.net)
eov.jconserv.net (http://eov.jconserv.net)
-
I'm glad you Union of Vaalnor guys have a good start.
To summarize my thoughts today:
PlaneShift has expanded. The new updates bring new opportunities for adventuring and I'd like to not be adventuring alone. Soon enough for all those interested I'll be organizing an exploratory mission both in and out of character. We'll try to map out the areas a little bit, get a feel for the new territory and enjoy each others company. Its also time to start recruiting again as CoV is expanding we need new members to fill vital roles. Any thoughts and comments are welcome!
-
Tyrnal salutes.
Of course I will be there with the Vaal Guard to ensure the safety of our explorers, sir.
OOC: Excellent idea, Ind :D
Edit:
I've already thought up of an interesting RP storyline behind the mission. Unless you have your own idea of course ;D
-
Thanks to soem fun glitches, we're just now scheduling our adventure. We'll be meeting in urps chat at around 2pm our time, which is 9pm for Zan and Jekkar I believe. I am in central standard time. I don't know UTC or any conversions so either someone will have to post that or otherwise you'll have to figure it out hehe, I'm terrible I know.
Just to review. URPS chat is
server: plexus.shacknet.nu
channel: #urps
Hope to see you all there. Once we've all met up, we'll head on our adventure!
-
Greetings,
Our main server is down. We will have a temporary irc channel tomorrow afternoon when Induane gets off of work. Hopefully Lishom will be back from his Socialist Vacation soon :D
-
Mmm... was wondering about that. Rather frustrating for me, as you can imagine. Especially since a certain someone still hasn't sent me certain information... >:(
;)
-
That certain someone will have it to you soon enough.. hopefully by tomorrow. Its been a bit busy for him lately :)
-
Greetings all. The pleXus network has been down for quite some time now. I'm thinking we need to start conceptualizing a new site. I'll purchase extra bandwidth to support it. If anyone has ideas, please let me know. :D I'm not particularly artistic.
-
Well, I can think of something, possibly.
What? Archon is back? REALLY!?
...
...
Yes.
http://z9.invisionfree.com/CoV/index.php?
There's a temporary forum until something much better can be put together.
--
I've missed the PS community, and more so the CoV community. I'm looking foward to bringing CoV foward with everyone once again. I still have the trias and some items, so the shop should be opened relatively soon.
-
Excellent Archon! Great to see you have returned from your summer off in no internet land :D How are ya! We're going to be working on a new site - any input greatly apriciated. Jekkar and I have been discussing and have decided a green and gold or a green and grey color scheme would be good. Of the two which do you prefer?
-
Green and grey would be my preferrance. Green and gold would give it a decayed look in my opinion. You need to get MSN! Or get a make-shift IRC channel up so we can all continue talking!
-
Well, most of my days are spent in #planeshift-build, so if you log onto any freenode channel you should be able to grab me by doing a /msg Induane blahblahblah - also email me - and I"m in #ps-mc as well with josePhoenix, Kanalal and others :D The community modeling project is going well and so is Vaalnor - catch me and I'll show you some stuff.
-
what about a mossy stone kinda look?? but otherwise i think the green and grey would look good.
-
While I think mossy would look good I think it would take away from the serious type look that I would like the site to have. I don't know though.. maybe people disagree with me there.
-
I think it really depends on the flavor you want to give the site, and through the site to the community. Green and grey is less pretentious than green and gold. It all depends how you want it to feel.
-
Greetings all. The pleXus network has been down for quite some time now.
the network is back online, i had some "administrative" problems with my provider... the one good thing is that i've got a new modem, which seems to be much more stable than the old one.
sorry for the downtime ;)
-
Well, we still love you man.. good to see you back around :)
-
Well, we still love you man.. good to see you back around :)
I don't.. I'm sorry but.. It's been so long, you really didn't think I could wait forever did you? This is akward but, I'd like you to meet...
Joking! Please god don't take this seriously! It will ruin my business..
-
Things just we're the same without the community jester.
-
Things just we're the same without the community jester.
I'm going to assume that was an insult to me. However, I will take it as a compliment and allow your attempt to hurt my feelings backfire. Wow, I'm pretty awesome aren't I?
-
Archon,
Go ahead and resize your siggy. The original I sent you was way too large. Scale to a legnth of 500 pixels.
-
Good day,
The new website is now in a "usable" state, as you can see here:
http://plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/index.php (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/index.php)
You can use your username and password from the old site, but you have to upload your picture again (sorry ;).
I will very soon remove the old site from my server (finally get rid of phpnuke \\o// ) and point the proxy to the new one. All forum posts will be available on the new site, but please use the forum on the old site for as long as it is avaible, or your message will be lost when I migrate the forum.
The left side of the site is still pretty empty. What the Council has in mind is giving our guildmembers the ability to have there own sections there. Like for example a section about crafting, magic, fighting and so on. You will get full administration rights for that particular section and be responsible for the content in it. That way, a merchant forexample can post the goods he is selling/buying and keep an uptodate price and item list. I think it would be an excellent place to represent the Vaal Guard too.
So, if you are interested in having your own section on the site, feel free to contact me. Induane and I are most of the time online in our IRC room and if not, simply respond to this post and we will try to settle a meeting to discuss further details.
-
The link has been changed on the front page :)
-
Hope you remember me or I will feel the fool. Just wanted to stop by and say Hello to you. Hope to run into you soon.
-
Zan enters Ojaveda's gates and stands still in the middle of the road, taking a long look around ... not much later a fierce looking Enkidukai approaches him. The Nolthrir recognizes his old friend immediately and smiles widely as he approaches him.
"Hello Jekkar. Back again after so long, after so much has happened. It seems though this place hasn't changed much at all."
Zan and Jekkar head over to the Broken Door together and spend the entire afternoon talking about everything that has happened. After hours, the traveller finally heads to his home, to the Utlics of Ojaveda, where the Community of Vaalnor resided for so long. While he walks through the dark alleys of Dsar Akkaio, Zan ponders his life and his future with a distinct frown on his face. He finally arrives at his old home, raises the palm of his right hand in the air while whispering a chant to make a small flame appear just above it. With a casual wave Zan propels the flame straight into the firepit in the middle of his utlic, igniting it and spreading a warm glow across his tent.
"Maybe a lot has changed after all ..."
Zan sits down on some pillows and pulls a piece of parchment out of his backpack, then he starts to write his speech for Hydlaa Plaza.
Inhabitants of Yliakum, long have I roamed across the wilderness, travelled to cities and witnessed the wonders of man, god and nature. Today I return to my position as Vaalnor Council member, to my community and to you all with words of change echoing on the winds.
Vaalnor has been neglected ... until now! We, in the council, have decided to revive old ideals and resurrect a community considered deceased by many. This is why I stand before you all today with the word of a new Vaalnor. Our old ways still stand strong, we are still a community, an unity of people, above all and we still believe in helping eachother out. Teamwork and contributing to the grander whole are the way towards a grander and more pleasant life. Together we can stand much stronger and achieve a lot more than divided.
The Council of Vaalnor watches over those who seek a home with us, those who do not wish to be bossed around but wish to belong to a community of likeminded individuals are always welcome. With us individuality is encouraged, diversity can add to the whole but nothing is more important than the state of the community. By being selfless in your actions and aiding others when they need it, we in Vaalnor believe that you will recieve everything you could need in return. Now more than ever our community is open to those who are attracted to our ways. We need many craftsmen, merchants, artisans, scholars and guardsmen to replenish our ranks and build on Vaalnor. No matter what profession or skill you have .. there is room for you among us.
We have been sleeping for a long time but today the magnificent creature that is Vaalnor awakens from it's sleep and roams the world once more!
Zan reads over his writings one last time and smiles. He puts the paper on one of his drawers and walks over to the fire to poke it up before he gazes into the flames.
"Everything that has been done .. can be undone."
(With this I want to revive the Community of Vaalnor, we have been inactive for quite some time but with the return of a few key members it might be time to allow CoV to grow again. I hope Induane will forgive me for this initiative but I'm sure he won't mind and hope I can talk to him soon.
For anyone interested in joining contact Zan, Tyrnal, Jekkar, Aregul or Induane in-game or visit our website at http://plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/index.php! )
-
/me greets
Zan
"There is nothing to forgive old friend."
I was quite surprised at the initiative however. I didn't know there were others who really still felt connected like I did. You'll find me ingame quite soon :)
-
Tyrnal walks up to the message board on Hydlaa Plaza, he sheathes his claymore on his back and fiddles with one of the pouches hanging at his hard leather belt. A moment later the Captain of the Vaal Guard pulls a piece of parchment out and hammers it on the board with the back of a small hammer and some nails that lie near the board.
People of Hydlaa,
Vaalnor is looking for more workers, miners, blacksmiths, scholars and guards to realize it's dream of recreating a society they once belonged to. A society of Duty, Loyalty, and Spirit among it's members. No member of Vaalnor will be opressed in their doings or refused support from the rest of the community, as long as they keep the community's wellbeing in mind. We offer an excellent work environment for those who wish to learn a craft or those who seek others to work with.
Do you have what it takes? Do you want to work with Vaalnor? And do you want to help us build this grand community to support many?
Join our effort. There is a place within Vaalnor for everyone.
Signed,
The Vaalnor Council
Tyrnal walks off after looking the parchment over for a moment.
-
Greetings everyone. We will be having an ingame meeting on saturday april 28th. Time is to be announced but please try to clear your schedules! I'll try to provide some food and activities, and we'll be going on a joint questing journey together. Hope to see you all there!
-
We had scheduled a meeting with some adventure for Sunday, but due to some technical difficulties it didn't come out quite as planned. That said it was a partial sucess and we were able to test our town ingame, and get a feel for our new architecture. As you can see its coming along nicely, though there are a few minor problems including missing roof textures, etc.. We're going to try again for a bit of extra fun soon so keep an eye out.

Hopefully by the end of the week the inside of the tavern will be usable and we can all enjoy a beer.
We will be adding npc's and other fun stuff once we get the hang of it.
There will also be a redo of some of the current textures and of course new buildings and additions to the town.
-
Three cheers for the Vaalnor team!
*runs off to test it out himself now*
-
We try our best :D
Anyways I'm going to schedule another adventure/meeting soon, I'll keep you all posted. Hopefully by then we'll all be able ot go into the tavern for a beer!

The reconstructed city of Vaalnor is the work of a certain genious.
If I understand correctly from your guild website, this runs on a private server.
Some of us in the Nomothetes who are involved in research would like to have a look at it.
Does a right of visit exist?
Prince Odisseo
-
If I understand correctly from your guild website, this runs on a private server.
Yes, this is due to policy and settings issues with PlaneShift itself. Since the city cannot exist ingame I run a private server.
Some of us in the Nomothetes who are involved in research would like to have a look at it.
Does a right of visit exist?
Prince Odisseo
Of course! Anyone is more than welcome. If you visit our guilds website, http://plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/ (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/cov/) you will see a chat option in the left menu. If you click that it will take you to our guild chatroom. For at least a few hours a day I am there everyday. I will be updating to a 0.3.019 server this evening so there is some time where I won't be able to launch it for you though. Setting up our maps is a bit tricky too due to use of several custom shaders, but with the next release of the map I will try to fix that by bundling the shaders in the .zip file to make installation much smoother.
-
Let me express my greatest thanks for your response by virtue of which we have entered in diplomatic relations.

Eleven of the Nomothetes have let me know, with great enthusiasm, of their interest to visit the reconstructed city of Vaalnor. I shall try this week or the next to find on chat.

Odiesseo I haven't caught you yet but I'm still watching out for ya!
We have a few new screenies to show.

/me stares at the screenies while drooling
Ok now that is just to much. You guys are over-awesome.Hope your guild never dies.Hope it just get biger and biger and biger. And hope your town makes it ingame at some point. That way people could visit it and you could make money by charging for the comodities.
-
The town won't be coming in-game. It will be for a project called Peragro Tempus.
We will be doing a redo of the current textures by the way. Expect some new screenies soon when we fixed everything up.
-
We offered the town and some settings info/background to the PS team but they did not want it. Not willing to let all the work go to waste I joined as a 3d dev for PT, and am working on getting the town ready there. Now if only Jek would get me more textures!! <3
We'll continue to be here in PS though as a guild, it started here and has a huge history here, so here it will stay. In addition to being in PT, the word can be exported for use with PS and as such can be used for guild only adventures on our PS server.
-
I wish I had the minimum skills require to give a headstart on something like that...
Wait, can't I make something like that with Qwaek 3 Worldbuilder or UnrealED?
I know too little of texturing for that either... :(
Anyway, nice greek/roman-like scenario.
-
Jek got me some new textures, and I rearranged the lighting to be a bit more realistic. I still haven't textured the chairs or the bar but it is coming along nicely:

Tavern is looking better and better .. as soon as my life calms down a bit I'll be roaming around there!
-
Wow, that looks great :)
-
That looks nice. IMO it's nothing special though...aside from the lighting. I'm new to lighting. The lighting is really good either way. :)
-
Mhyrage, these are pictures of work in progress. Some of the textures are even simply there to substitute for empty space.
And we can always use people that can do a better job than us so drop by the chatroom sometime and show us your stuff :)
And thanks for the compliment Karyuu. Any support is always welcome.

I'm simply referring to the architecture. Still, it's always nice for an MMO. IMO I'd make the tables have a few more sides. Also...how the heck does that roof stay up? I'm a mapper I don't do textures very much, I'm just an architecture guy.
-
Hehe, you'll have to ask Induane about the architecture. The exterior of the tavern is a giant block of marble though, i'm not sure the roof needs to be supported by anything.
-
There IS actually a center support but for some darned reason it makes lighter2 crash and so I've always set export to false on it. Its simply a slightly ornate pillar with 4 sides, and some nooks for storage shelving of bottles of ale. Its all set to not export though. I also have a cliff face on the exterior thats not set to export currently because it also crashes lighter2. I sent the map off to sueastside who used it for a test case and submitted it to res2k with a back-trace for debugging so I'm assuming those issues will be fixed soon. I know it must have something to do with the way I applied the uv-map but I can't get it figured out. Its one for the CS team to handle.
I'm glad you like the lighting. I've found that for unskilled persons like myself, good lighting can make up for other weaknesses, and I'm fairly proficient with lighting in CrystalSpace. If performance with pure dynamic lights on a stencil shadow based renderloop was a little better I would have animated the flames lights to flicker a bit and used some parallax mapping, but the performance wasn't good enough. I may later switch to a diffuse renderloop since it has a lightier step and I could combine some of both. I'll have to experiment with that though. I am a sucker from the cool lightmap shadows.
-
I'm starting to feel like mapping for this game. I'd stick to to the insides of buildings though. Furnishings and wall detail and such if I could. Karyuu saw a bit of what shouldn't be done to walls already lol. What is the lighting like in crystalspace? Do you have to change the intensity and everything? Does each light cast a shadow too? Etc.
-
Lighting in CrystalSpace is complex. It depends on many factors:
Renderloop: Depending on what shaders you use you need different renderloops. I have some good information about renderloops on my website on this page:
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc/?q=node/48 (http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc/?q=node/48)
Now lights have two types: static or dynamic ( there is also pseudo dynamic in certain renderloops but I don't understand that fully myself ).
Static lights require the lighting to be pre-calculated with a lighter. There is the standard lighter, and the new lighter - lighter2 which is more accurate. If you use the mesh type: genmesh (which you absolutely should) and use the shader std_lighting.xml then lighter2 can do lightmaps on genmeshes. The old lighter only supports lightmaps on thing meshes which are being obsoleted anyways. If you light genmeshes with a standard shader applied with the standard lighter, then the lighting is calculated based on vertex shading. This works great for somewhat complex geometry, but for big flat surfaces is fairly useless. For this reason I favor genmesh + lighter2.
Dynamic lights do not require relighting, and if used in moderation can do some really nice things. Map testing is also quicker as it never requires relighting. Too many has a horrible performance hit though, so you need to be careful.
So whether a light casts a true shadow is dependent on what type of shader is used on a mesh, and in what renderloop. You can also set intensity, as well as influence radius, attenuation, etc. You can also set color, and use ipo for animating them if they are dynamic, including animating a color change.
-
Do you have predone renders? I map in GTKradiant most because I used to play JA a lot, and I'm fairly used to it. They had a lot of preanimated lights like flicker and strong slow pulse, etc. You could do a lot of original stuff with the lighting in that game. Because of the perspective and the ability to jump say 25+ feet, it's quite hard to scale as well. It's also a good starting engine since it doesn't like too much small detail in one spot. Either way, is crystalspace free download, have to have connections, or what? It sounds like something I might enjoy. Is it more of a modeler or a mapper, by the way? I'd have to say I'd be quite useless without the stability the grid/snap to grid for brushes mappers have.
A friend said 3ds has that though. I bet I could do a lot in a modeler if I could have things snap to grid. Especially with all the extra power they have.
-
I am not sure if pre-animated lights are possible in CS or not - I'd have to ask res2k the man behind the lighters :) CrystalSpace is a 3d game engine which can be downloaded free of charge and compiled from source. I used blender for modeling because its crystalspace exporter is the most mature. In most ways its just as powerful as the big modeling programs like 3dsmax and Maya, and it runs on Linux (Maya does too but it costs too much and I don't want to pirate it). Everything in Peragro Tempus is done in blender, all of our maps are, and exported to CrystalSpace. Much of PlaneShift was done in blender - the bronze door region for instance, and the winch area.
-
Aye, aye. I just went to BD recently. It was very creative. Much inspiring. That and the temple of Laanx would be the things I would have problems replicating. Or at least would take a very long time...thanks for all the info though. I might have to look into getting into the Dev team one day. It'd be nice to have some experience with a real game. I doubt I ever will though. I do definitely have enough time to volunteer on my hands xD...
-
Alrighty Jekkar sent me a few more textures, and I made one for the chair finally though it isn't much good. Here is the result:

T'is coming along quite nicely >: )
-
Well, almost done:
Left to do:
- Add rugs
- Fix bar textures
- Add a few more knickknacks - baskets, things on shelves, etc...
Should be done tonight then it will be complete finally!
-
It's getting nice, I just have one thing to suggest. That oven on the first pic, perhaps it could be a little less geometric and more rounded-up and detailed with some extra polygons and an unique texture, because right now it looks a bit blocky and dull. Of course if doing so would kill the FPS, then I can understand why it is this way.
-
The Four Leaves tavern has been completed today with a pretty satisfying end result.
http://vaalnor.mine.nu/Downloads/Media/Screenshots/Four%20Leaves%20Tavern/
And Raleigh: you are 100% right, Induane told me he would add any extra detail and trinkets on a later date including fixing that oven, i'm not sure he was happy with it in the first place.
Let's hope Induane will post here soon on anything I forgot to tell you guys.
-
There are several things that look a bit overly geometric due to a small bug in b2cs that doesn't propagate the smoothing tag so that will fix some. I'll use a better texture on the oven to detail it out a bit more. The bottles are the same way - smoothing tag is set but not exported correctly so that all will automatically improve with a fixed b2cs. Adding more detail to the oven won't kill fps too terribly much I don't think. A GeForce4 should get close to 100fps in the tavern so I'm not terribly worried.
But yes as far as it goes, the tavern is now complete. We're going to start working on the main keep portion of the town now, and work on the layout of the housing and business districts. I need to make the streets narrower, and test a few other things. But thats project 2. For now I'm just happy we finished the tavern in a satisfactory way.
Special thanks to Jekkar for the initial tavern exterior concept, and tons of texture work and criticism kicking me to fix stuff that was obviously bad. Thanks also to Lordbug for several table and chair models, the bar, and the barrels. Soon we'll all have to get together for some ale in our new tavern :)

Just to keep people up to date about the progress on Vaalnor, here's a recent screenshot of the Grand Library we are currently working on.
Keep in mind this is a very early stage.
(and I'll have to change that floor texture :P)

The Vaalnor Supply shop in Dsar Akkaio opens it's doors again.
Vaalnor merchants bring you goods that no other merchant sells at a fair price. We offer the weapons that you can't find at Trasok's, including many hammers and maces. Items like rings, gems, mugs and even some glyphs.
-
Do I get a community discount? :whistling:
-
Let me think about that ...
Of course, we're a community :P It's the whole idea of CoV that we help eachother out. :D
-
Thank goodness, I've given all my mining trias to beggars!
On another note, Jekkar and I have been hard at work on the new library. The latest shots show the new floor, some touched up textures and lighting, and improved bookcases. Books coming soon!

Yay, that's really nice! Especially the shot with some cullumns :D I would only shade light on them ;P
-
That column will be polished up soon. Also we will be having some juicy additions to the library soon, including stylish chairs and tables. And some nice stuff we're experimenting with at the moment.
-
More previews! I've added some books, a few tables, and some other various cleanups including some scale issues (This blender caliper tool is really helpful!) and redone the counter for the librarian.

I don't know what further plans you have for this structure, so feel free to discard my suggestions - how about adding some ladders here and there to help reach the books on the very top shelves? And those walls might benefit from some paintings, or maps :)
I'm curious about the polycounts you guys are aiming at with such buildings, too :]
-
Both are definitely planned. I need to modify the bookcases to have a groove in the top for the ladder to "lock" into and slide back and forth in. Then I'll for now export them as static objects but later when our new entity system is done I'll add them as an entity. We can use a variation of our mounts code to get on the ladders and make it slide back and forth. As for more carpets, plus paintings, etc, I'm just waiting for some textures from Jekkar. He has a good eye for the sorts of patterns that make for good hangings. Those will definitely really help spruce up the place. We're also going to put some plants around here and there in pots, and it really needs some more furniture of some sort. I'm just not sure exactly what yet.
Do the tables look too "restaurant" like?
-
Perhaps the chairs might be better with a back for support? Considering people may study in a library for hours, it would probably be a welcome addition. Beyond that, they look good.
-
Personally I was thinking about something like: http://www.marbleslawn.com/chair2.jpg
I hadn't been around for a while so I didn't get to see some of the new stuff like that reading area. I told Induane that it looked too "restaurant" like. In my view there should be lower lighting, a different ceiling texture, and a complete redo on the tables and chairs. The actual bookcase area looks close to perfect right now, just not too keen on the reading area yet.
But we'll see how that is going to work out in the coming days.
