Title: Announcement: Next Hydlaa Festival of the Hunt
Post by: Induane on August 11, 2005, 03:19:37 am
To all who thought the Culture team was a flash in the pan ...

WRONG!!

We are back and since the wipe is here (though there may be a second wipe), we have decided to start the planning for the next festival. Per usual:

\"The grand Hydlaa Festival of the Hunt will be an event no
self-respecting citizen of Yliakum can afford to miss.

This festival will host tournaments, free to enter for all who are
skilled in magic, weaponry or unarmed combat to test their power. We
will also find out who will be the ultimate champion of Hydlaa as s/he
can stand undefeated for up to two hours in the ring. Anyone will be
allowed to challenge our champion and should they be victorious take
their place as reigning champion. Those who are undefeated in their
categories will receive a prize, as well as smaller prizes for those
who managed to win at least one duel.

For those who \'d rather measure their tracking and hunting skills with
others we will be offering the hunting game. The hunter that can
collect the most trophies within one hour without breaking the rules
will be declared master huntsman and receive their prize. Second and
third places will also receive prizes. In this game people with little
fighting skills will stand as much chance as those grand swordfighters
to come out a winner so it doesn\'t matter how experienced you are.

Aside from those main events there will be bards, storytellers,
merchants, dice games and food for everyone.

And of course you are all most welcome to cheer on your favorite
champion or hunter.\"

Now we\'d like some suggestions from the community on what events could be included to make it better for all!  I\'ll once again be making a Festival Patch, but this one will work!! and have a decent download speed I promise*

So please, I\'d like to for anyone with suggestions to post here on what all would be fun events. .. Also please note that no date has been set as of yet, but we\'ll try to set a tentative date fairly soon

*this is the fine print where I say that sure everything I said about the patch working was not necessarily true and blah blah blah... :)

Date....date...date...*Gloki racks his brain* Dunno about dates, but I think that sometime beteen three and five GMT +12 would be good.((sure that at least those living in new zealand will agree))

Play give me all the money.  But don\'t play.  Do.

But really, those are good ideas, but can you please explain on the rules and what exactly we have to do/looking for for the hunt game?

Most of the information is found on our website, which is of course linked in my signature :) But specifics could change if people have better ideas.  Thats why a community is awsome.

One question...Are you going to hold Mage against Mage, Warrior against Warrior matches? If so then I\'ll participate in the Mage tournaments. :)

the hunting game/event, is that the same as the treasure hunts they used to have? and yayoo, unless you are trying to send a different message to what i am recieving, Uranus has a u not an i. And i also disagree with you yayoo. If planeshift had more festivals gameplay would become less realistic and easier to get quick money. They already have the haloween dress up and the festivals of the hunt before that, so i dont think planeshift needs more festivals.

not really, festivals add a level of realism to the game by encouraging roleplay.   The festival doesn\'t make it easy to get money... where did you arrive at that conclusion?

It doesn\'t need more too often, but every 6 months or so irl, we\'d like to hold one.  Too often makes them unspecial.

While this is called \"Festival of the Hunt\", there should be more than killing in it\'s variations. Inspired by the game \"Hide & Seek\" that used to be popular in PS, something like this could be done.
Maybe something like hiding some (2-4) items around hydlaa which would be watched by a GM or a member of the culture team so that 1) it can be assured that players don\'t just buy / loot things and 2) it is known who actually found it.

As for the patch: the last one did work for me, though I was pretty late in D/Ling it.

Yes, a treasure hunt type activity.  Very nice.  You can even go beyond the limits of Hydlaa and hide something in the hills somewhere, give description of the surroundings and send everyone out to find it.

OMG hunt festival. Brilliant.

What will you be using for the \"trophies\" or are you using more than one thing? Or are you just keeping that classified? :P

Great idea, which I could have thought of it :D

I hope you\'re not giving me credit for the idea, as the first festival was complete the idea of Zan.  He was the genius here not myself.  He created the first festival nearly single handedly as far as organizing.

Now for the technical details. Lasting at least several hours, hopefully all day long. It will be located at the arena (take the road through the mountains next to the blacksmith to get there) and everyone will be welcome. Whether you are a newbie, experienced player, RPer or power leveler .. there will be something to do for you.

More info on the specific games and attractions will follow. Also some will require registration in advance, which will also be provided in due time.

Right now we am looking for more sponsors to donate the prizes for the winners and the food. We can also use referees for the various tournaments, some assistants to help out with the hunting game and everyone who has some more ideas or plans to include in this festival.

We am also looking for a few people willing to hold some dice games and perhaps a story teller or two to entertain the masses.

Then lastly I need some people who are willing to hand out the food to the visitors.

The only requirements are that you can be online for a couple hours on saturdays and are responcible enough to handle the tasks. For the sponsors, they can personally hand out the prizes if they desire but if they can\'t or don\'t want to be there they can also hand their donations to us and we will hand them out in their name.

anyone interested in helping out in the above ways please reply to this topic with how you would like to help out or contact us privately. I can then go over the specifics of your job with you and work out any kinks.

I can\'t pay anyone or give any sort of reward other than the satisfaction of entertaining the people.

The above is a modified post from Zan ... the reason I posted that is to clear up some detail and let people know that this festival should be conducted about the same as the last one.

Hmm, what ever happened to Zan.. i havnt seen that guy in a while. Did he go inactive??
Title:
Post by: Zan on August 12, 2005, 11:05:00 am
I most certainly did not go inactive. I \'ve just been enjoying from my vacation and have to say that I \'m very thrilled to see some initiative on the culture team.

Excellent work Induane :)

Now to answer some questions ...

There will indeed be tournaments in armed combat, unarmed and magic but unlike the first festival we are hoping to put the emphasis on other things besides fighting tournaments.
One thing that will definitely be made more important are the hunting games since there are now a lot more items to be obtained from creatures.

It would also be great if we could attract various independent enterprises who are looking to sell equipment, food and drinks or provide entertainment in other forms. I \'d love to see some bards, theatre troupes or anything of that kind on the festival.

hopefully ill be there this time :/

missed the hunting last time.
Title:
Post by: Zan on August 15, 2005, 12:29:42 pm
Well there definitely will be more hunting this time to participate in.

I \'ve also opened a few discussion areas on the Festival forums, which are free for anyone to join who has something to say.

Yay! This looks quite fun.. Ive never dont it before. So its just gonna basically be a big festival with many diffrent kinds of tournaments?
Title:
Post by: Zan on August 15, 2005, 04:56:23 pm
And games yes, not only fighting tournaments.
Title:
Post by: Induane on August 16, 2005, 05:06:58 am
ANy ideas for a tentative date?  I\'m thinking late september early October to have plenty of time to promote it and to plan for it.  Anyone with me or against me? :)
Title:
Post by: Zan on August 16, 2005, 10:42:01 am
I \'m afraid that will be a bit impossible for me personally. Since I will be gone for 10 days in september and my university courses start again at that time it will be a bit of a busy time.

I was rather thinking we took a few (2 or 3) months to prepare this thing decently and this is just an early announcement.

Anyway I \'d say these discussions are best held at the festival forums instead of on here, no?
Title:
Post by: Keyaz on August 16, 2005, 10:58:31 am
If you give it the longer time stated by Zan for you to prepare it can bet better created and more illustrious, plus

GM\'s by then should be able to help out with fundings and prizes! Huzzah!

I agree, but I was finding the EFY forums a little baren, so I posted here hoping the members would catch the motivation, and swing on over there with me soon,... except that come to think of it  I havn\'t checked the forums since I posted this thread.  Dang! Guilty!

Title:

actually I\'ve been discussing that with Induane.  We may hold a few events to partially be fun, but partially to test the procedures and such.

yayoo, by then you won\'t have that ammount of money :P WIPE :O :O :O

*counts KS money
Alright... with contributions from various guilds... gms and individuals... hm.. uber prize! :D

Will there be group tournaments like there was in the other?
But this time something like, you sign with a group... maybe 5 and fight other group. Each group can have mages, healers, swordsman, bow guys whatever they think will make them achieve victory...
Title:
Post by: Zan on August 17, 2005, 02:20:29 pm
I think we can do that yeah .. it seemed to be a lot of fun at the previous festival, even though it was messy in organizing.

Festival Sounds awsome, I\'m looking forward to watching it.
Plus the longer you wait for the festival the more things will be added into the game; hence, more events! Yay!!

Also you said vendors of drinks?!? what drinks?!?! RP cola? (stupid joke) or am I not aware of something?
