Hi,
I thought it will be a great thing if you can add the Bump Mapping (or Embossing) effect in PS.
-
Ok, but can you tell us why you want it to be added? What it would bring to the game. What in your opinion it would do. Dont just say, oh i want this to be put into the game, you may wana fix your thread before it gets CLOSED...

my english isn\'t realy good, so I will be quick :
this is an example of the use of bump effect

it is perfect for wall, pavement,....
I don\'t know If Crystal Space manage the bump effect

That link showed some decent texturing, yeah, it would make the world more realistic and nicer graphically. However, I think the devs have a lot more important things to work on now than aesthetics, despite that I would love to be able to wander through the forest.

Wow, those slides really do show a big difference in graphics.. I mean a big difference. The detail is amazing. Hmm, I wonder if this could be worked into the PS client for better graphics. (Doubt it would be easy or fast.)

CS with shaders can support bump mapping, yes. We switched over to the new renderer a while ago. Actually creating bump maps, though, is an extra layer of work for our artists (and we would not want to use them if they\'d hurt performance). So yes, this is something that can be added without much difficulty if the content is there.

with of course the appropriate switch to turn it off. i can just see my poor little 286 based p4 emu melting to slag under the load. but yeah it looks good.

I\'m agree with you, whats the problem for the dev team? to have a collection of trees ?
However I hope to run through grass, I think it will be not to hard.

Good news!
as soon as I have more time, I will help you

Ya that sounds pretty cool indeed
-
Wow.. the difference and life it adds is astounding.. 8o
Yeah mabye when some more content is added and stuff tis would be a very nice feature that will put PS\'s graphics up there with the top MMORPGs.. :D

if you render with bumpmapping on, on everything,(the whole world, all objects) the times will go around x2.(maybe thats the reason it\'s never been done before)
my pc almost can\'t handle ps anyway, but i\'d love to see this!
i\'m afraid it isn\'t possible in the near future, and the requirements will rise up again.(wich i think is way to high for the things you get)

There would be of course an option to turn it off.. Otherwise very many people would not be able to play!
No, bumpmapping is in almost every high-end-game nowadays, so there wouldn\'t be a problem in adding an option to turn bumpmapping on/off in PS, albeit after more important things.

Yeah, people who are serious gamers usually like to be ready for their game and have a decent computer but for those who just cant afford it. Well, theres always the other way to just switch it off so theirs less quality for more speed. :)
