Title: CB v11 on Updater

Name says it all, if you can get the PS updater to work use it or use Cha0s\'s java updater.

Should download updater.app, psclient.app and pssetup.app, in addition to any art you don\'t have.

The \"good\" vfs file is also in the updater now, which should reduce future problems.

i update using updater.jar and then set permission with terminal and its working . thank you dryer, your the BEST

i am playing since 30 minutes and i see the difference now.more monsters, more loot and i can even post on the forum and kill a tefusang in the same time. The chat is scrolling, everything seem to be great up to this point.

Out of curiosity what version of cvs of CS/cel and planeshift does the updater build use? What compiler? Are you still using 10.2.x?

you need a newest ansi compileur install on your system to play more effectively planeshift. The version 10.2.x is to old get 10.4.x or the 10.3.x if you can because one day it will stop working on 10.2.x

Mine crashed the same as hramrach did with the same error results
as he had.   And I have 10.3.9 OS.

when using psclient or psclient.jar I get a white screen entitled:
\"PlaneScrift Crystal Blue (0.3.011)
and then it crashes.

Yep, still doesn\'t work.

/fonts doesn\'t seem to exist, and /data/ttf doesn\'t contain the missing font.

I have downloaded it, set the permission bits and everything except the pssetup seems to work alright. I have tried to set loadallmaps=true but end up with the same failure as on the windows version - it freezes when everything is loaded.
It does seem to run a little more laggy then before the update, movements comes sometimes in jerks.
My set up is a G5 2x1.8GHz, 1,5GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB.

But all in all - it\'s good to have the MAC-version back.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart to DFryer and everybody else which have helped him.

All I did was use ChaOs\' updater.jar and just updated. It was finished within an hour, then I did the terminal thing with the chmod 755 psclient... and it works! I\'m so happy!

Everyone who is having any problems at all (psclient, pssetup, etc), please see the guide sticky thread at the top of the forum. Make sure you redownload Updater.jar if you choose that route, since I updated it. If you continue to have problems after following one of the two guides in the guide thread, then post here.

Hi,

First of all, BIG[/i] ups to dfryer and his \'associates\' for all there work.

Um, after some discussion on the forum, I ran the updater about a week ago. I did this mainly to use up some of my bandwidth for the month. (I get 1gig of jet stream on my account, so wanted to use it up).

Will I have to run it again, or do I need just the client now? it was  mentioned that the client (around 30meg) would be all I need.

So...in summary, my last step was running the updater, not to sure which step to take now?

Apologies if this post annoys![/i]

Sikarda: run the updater again. It\'ll get only what needs to be gotten (probably just the client, though maybe some art/bug fixes). If bandwidth is an issue, use \"Update individual zip entries\" as specified in the guide.

Hi,

Yeh, I am getting a similar thing, I downloaded and ran Cha0s\'s Java updater, and selected update all files. Both the psset-up and psclient launch and the windows both come up, (the psclient and psset-up window have the new version at the top 0.3.011), but \'unexpectedly quit\' soon after.

I have also gone through the guided process of setting the permission bits through the Terminal (.app). I then (but not sure if I should have) ran the SetBits.jar and clicked ok to set permission bits. Still no joy. Just the blank windows with the game version in the header.

Any help much appreciated. :)

sorry if this is a double post, but when i checked the boards again later i didn\'t see my original.

alright, so i downloaded the latest version of the java updater and selected \"update all files\". they downloaded, and then I tried to launch psclient. However, it doesn\'t even appear in the dock. The dock moves a little to make room for the icon, but it closes before it can even appear. Here\'s some more info, in case i have a hardware issue or i did something wrong:
the updater: I just checked \"update all files\" and crossed my fingers. The file updater.jar WAS in the Planeshift 3D folder. I didn\'t see anything about setbits on cha0s\' faq page anymore, so i couldn\'t do that.

my hardware: os 10.4.1, on a 1.67Ghz PowerBook G4 (only 2 months old).

EDIT: oops... guess it was a double. i must\'ve checked page one instead.

when the application does not appear in dock, it is probably not executable. See the part about changing permissions.

It looks like the crashes aren\'t hardware specific. I tried on a G4 powerbook and some people get them on G5s.

All I did was update a working 0.3.010 with updater --auto. If that does not work, something is broken. I run OS X 10.3. Maybe the new binary is 10.4 only?

I will try with a fresh 0.3.010.

EDIT:

I read the guide again, and it does not say anything about crashes(except crashes caused by sound).
So I guess startup crashes aren\'t covered yet :)

Anyway, thanks to dfryer for building the client.
Hopefully the problems will be resolved eventually.

EDIT:

When I start with fresh PS 0.3.010 from dmg I also get the crash (after updating with updater).

seems to me that there are quite a few people getting this problem, i have it to, i can\'t load up psclient or updater or pssetup apps, don\'t know what the issue is, chaos i hope u guys figure it out soon, i just can\'t figure out why it happens on some peopls systems and not on others, odd, anyway, if anyone has figured it out it would be great for you to post the answer in this thread, thanks.

BTW: im running PS on a powermac g4 1ghz with 768 meg ram and a GeForce 4 mx video card w/64 meg vram. (not sure if that helps at all), still, thanks to dfryer for all the work he does. =)

I think it is not related to the missing font. If I put a font there it crashes anyway, it just does not complain about the font.
And pssetup doesnt complain about fonts but crashes anyway.

Mr. Sandman: as hramrach said, the application not-appearing in the dock means that it is not executable. You said you downloaded the latest Updater.jar which sets permission bits for you. Therefore, the only circumstance under which it would not work would be if you were not logged in as an administrator (or root user). As noted in the guide, you must be an administrator to set permission bits.

Everyone with the other types of crashes: I\'m talking to dfryer about this and hopefully we can figure out what\'s wrong.

EDIT: Ok, it appears that these crashes are being caused by bugs (surprise surprise) that were fixed just recently. I\'ll talk to dfryer about updating the repository with a new build. Hopefully, this will happen soon (tm), but don\'t hold your breath. ;)

yup... i\'ve been logged in as an admin the whole time. the folder \"PlaneShift 3d\" has been in /Macintosh HD/Applications. What\'s this about a font crash? I quickly scanned my planeshift folder, and there was nothing under /data/ttf/.
Also, this same startup crash happened when I tried to go from 0.3.009 to 0.3.010 using the java updater.

And I almost forgot, many thanks to the mac team (especially Dfryer and Cha0s for the help). It\'s good to know not everyone is PC only. Even though it doesn\'t quite work yet, 347.3 MB of game is something to be proud of.

Now, as to the permission bits issue, it is possible that I put an old version of Updater.jar on my site. I just reuploaded, so the new version is definitely there. Try downloading again and then running it from the PS folder as usual. It should set the bits on it\'s own after completing an update... *smacks forhead* Make sure the updater actually updates something (just delete vfs.cfg and check \"Update all files\" ); otherwise it won\'t set the bits.

ah. never did delete vfs.cfg... just downloaded the positively new updater, and re-copied the files from the disk image. *crosses fingers*

by the way, would using chmod help at all with my situation? earlier on this board someone said that their client was working, and they had used chmod.

Good to hear Sandman. :) The reason, as I said, is that unless a file is actually updated, the updater doesn\'t set any bits.

Sikarda: Your problem is not a permission bits problem, as you actually see the windows pop up. If you could post a Console log (see this thread (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=17918&boardid=32) for details), it would be really helpful.

I\'m having sort of the same problem as Sikarda, and getting the exact console logs. The difference is I was able to eventually create a character and log into the game, but as soon as I try to loot a rat that has something on it, my game crashes. Itemless rats will not crash my game and instead give me the \"has no loot\" message. Trying to go to the options window usually crashes it also.

All my window graphics are messed up as well and alot of my commands won\'t do anything. I\'ve also had problems with background graphics just going black, and I\'m unable to shift view with the \'tab\' button. I\'m sure there\'s more bugginess, but I haven\'t been able to do much yet.

I\'ve followed Cha0s\' instructions (using the new updater.jar, trying chmod, shutting off my sound in game, etc), but nothing works. Pssetup crashes as well, giving me the same console log as Silkarda.

Could you post your system specs? Some of the problems you mentioned are known and have been addressed in CVS updates. Others may have to do with your system specs. Make sure to include graphics card (and VRAM), RAM, processor, and OS.

I have a feeling it has to do with the video card driver.  I got it to run on my iBook which has an ATI card in it and have had no luck on the NVDIA in my emac.


EDIT:  Although the game freezes on the iBook after it loads the level, and I can\'t play :(.

Maybe. I updated my drivers, just to be sure and that didn\'t work either. I\'d be interested to check the computer and video card specs of those of us who can get it working and those who can\'t. If someone with a NVIDIA card can get it to work, that might not be the problem.

How do you get a video card driver for OS X?

I have not seen one so far (except the drivers shipped with the system).

not sure if this is helpful, but as far as i know the only way to get drivers for mac os x is if apple releases them, which basically means you\'ll have to update mac os x or download them from the apple site, but they don\'t usually do that for things like the Nvidia graphics cards they put in some of the older g4 systems, so as far as getting new drivers goes, its pretty darn hard. i\'ve looked for new drivers for the Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 64 mb graphics card in my comp, couldn\'t find one, but maybe i just need to look harder ;)

Well the Pssetup always crashed for me \'till I trashed the vfs.cfg and updated again. Now Pssetup works so maybe try doing that if you haven\'t already.

I have the newest OS (10.4.2) installed, which claims to have the most updated drivers to date for my card. Just to be sure I downloaded the old firmware for the NVIDIA drivers on the Apple site (way OLD, but I was desperate), but my situation is the same. Still not working right. There\'s no newer driver shown on the Apple or NVIDIA sites.

I was able to play perfectly with the 3.010 realease. Has anything drastically changed with the client that would make 3.011 unworkable with our drivers or graphics card? I\'m of the thinking that it\'s a bug problem at the moment and I just have to be patient and wait for the full package release download.

Even after trashing vfs.cfg and reupdating, my pssetup refuses to work.

I beleive the crash is not related to the missing font.

I tried to put a font renamed to DejaVuSans somewhere (I wonder where I put it, I deleted that installation already), and the crash looked exactly the same. Except it did not complain about the missing font anymore.

The font is not the problem. I have that message and it works for me. The problem is a bug in the code (which has since been fixed). I\'m looking for dfryer so we can build it again!

I have Update my IMac machine with the 10.4 version of OsX.

PS. WORK not fine but that work, i go for reinstall all PS for be sure .

For me PS have trouble with OsX version 10.3.9 and work fine with 10.4 version.

I have the exact same problems as Kim: pssetup crashes instantly, psclient works, but crashes when I loot a rat that has something to take ...

Computer type: iMac
Mac OS Version: 10.4.2
Processor: 800 MHz, PowerPC G4 (2.1)
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX, 32 MB

So I guess it could still be an nvidia thing, but I\'ll leave that to someone more competent to work out! Good luck all, and thanks for all of your work ...

I\'m pretty certain at this point that 10.4 + nVIDIA = bugged play and 10.3 + nVIDIA = no play. Dfryer and I are looking for a fix (mostly dfryer ;) ), and we\'ll keep you updated on our progress. I know you\'re getting sick of my saying it, but please be patient. :(

u have loot not working at all?  and the amount window (thing that goes up when u clic any item that is in more than one exemplarie...)?

just i had the same problem that u have i think (and with exact same Spec,so its not due to Nvidia Thing)
so just look for my thread (What the Heck...thing)
And if u try doin the same thing ive done ..be carrefull (and do it after copying ur PS folder)

cause now i can play (even if what ive done isnt \"academic\" at all but it work and i didnt found any other way to repair it...)

so i wish u Good Luck
heu...i dont think its the best thing to do but it looks like its the only one...
maybe...someone knows how to repair some way else?

Petrous Juano: thanks for the tip, but it sounds a little hit & miss and I think I\'ll wait for a fix from the team.

It would be great to see an open-source game up and running, and it looks like this is real close now! I\'ll check back in a week or so, and see how it is going ... If you need an nVidia check before then, feel free to email me.

hehe ..indeed, its a bit the brutal way ..but it simply makes loot and amount window work...i also didnt get a bug since some time

and i repeated the action on the PS CB i had DLed (and was having same bugs as the other) and it made it works too  ;)

just...babeuf> copy ur PS folder and try it (if u want to play and being able to loot...if not..wait till new release)

and I go playin ...  XD
