Dear Planeshift friends,
A few months ago, I checked for fun if the free encyclopedia Wikipedia was aware of the existence of Planeshift... And I was surprised! There was an article about this great MMORPG and a good one. That is pretty neat !
With all the new updates, I wanted to check again this article,-what I did 5 minutes ago- and I was surprised! (yes again...)
I was surprised not because the article is still there, but because someone added a paragraph about \'Waste disposal\' =p ... you should read that :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaneShift
It is kind of funny but I don t think it should be in Wikipedia...Maybe someone should do something ? =)
Greetings.
Lindrae

Somehow I don\'t see the problem. If the article lists the Azure Sun, then it may just as well list the waste disposal section as well. In case you didn\'t know it, the section is from the official PS site, not something random.

Ooups...
Well it seemed so \'strange\' that I didnt even checked the website...
hum sorry for that..
-
I contributed to that :D
-
Don\'t see anything wrong there myself. :)

Waste Disposal is talking about the sewer, dumped there without any need to care where it ends up, maybe thats how the rats got so big :O

Just a little OT but this made me re-read the main site.
I am a little confused (not unusual I hear you say :D ) when comparing the wiki with Planeshift.it I noticed a slight inconsistency.
Namely what is Yliakum? Is it a world, a city or a town?
I have always assumed that Yliakum is the world with Hydlaa & Ojaveda the cities/towns or is Yliakum a region with more of the world outside the stalagtite or on the surface?
Answers on a postcard please addressed care of Harnquist the Smith, Hydlaa Plaza :)

:D I added a bit to it
Wow! Some dediated player wrote that thing.. just goes to show how popular Planeshift is. :))

Hmm, thats pretty cool that PS is actually included in an Online Free Encyclopedia. Well, I would have never thought of that but hey.. theres nothing wrong with it IMO. 8)

I\'m not sure if PS really warrants an entry in an encyclopedia, but whatever.
Anyway, AFAIK, Yliakum is the \"world\" of the Yliaki (people of Yliakum). It is the inside of the stalactite (but also refers to the stalactite itself OOC-ly). Thus, while it is country-sized, it is the \"world\" for most Yliaki. However, the game world is different from it because it consists of multiple places, including the cave where the stalactite hangs in, the stone labyrinths, the surface of the planet the cave with the stalactite is on, and even other planets or comparable places (called \"planes\").
Hydlaa and Ojaveda are cities in the land / world of Yliakum.
As for the waste conduits: these are not the sewers. The sewers are very much like the RL ones. They probably end in the waste conduits, but they are not them. The waste conduits are located only at the outer walls, because otherwise they would reach into the levels below, obviously. Thus, they are basically in the walls of the stalactite. This, of course, brings up a set of problems:
1) How do things from the center of the levels get there?
2) If they are in the walls, they are not infinite, thus they will either have to go into the cave (dumping all waste on Pradesha) or slowly fill up
If they were inside the upper levels only, which would permit them to be reasonably infinite, then the problem of 1) is even more severe as the lower levels would have to have some way to get their waste up.
These are not unsolvable, but since nothing is mentioned in the background of PS yet, it can only be speculation.

Well I find it intresting that the waste disposal part was chosen over some of the other topics (such as politics) but what is more intresting is that the Xacha have a seperate entry in Wikipedia.

Ahh... Wikipedia. The sign of true fame fortune and greatness, or else complete and total obscurity(PlaneShift being the former)(Incidentaly the slightly older, more well known and incredibly pathetic spoonscape does not get it\'s own Wikipedia article. Hmmm... Who\' better? PLANESHIFT! I still like this

Anywaaayyyy... Back on topic here... I think it\'s great that PlaneShift got itself a place on Wikipedia. That just goes to show that there are lots of people out there who genuinely care about PlaneShift.
/me applauds whoever worked on the Wikipedia article

That is nice to see. It makes me want to focus more on our main PS website but I have no skillz there :)

Well, AFAICS, the wikipedia can be edited easily, so it is obviously a matter of personal preference of the one who edits what gets in and what doesn\'t. It is likely that the person has a Xacha character, and thus would not bother with the rest, probably also because the person has familiarised themselves with the Xaxha but not the others, and thus, as it should be, only puts in what they think is reasonably well understood by them and thus probably accurate.

That\'s why Wiki rocks.. Other people can go in and edit stuff and add things. It\'s more complete now than before thanks to a few more people.. :D
